AIBU to ask what you’d do if your DH revealed he was actually an international gun for hire, and not a salesman?

[Hypothesis]

I ask you to imagine this. You’ve been with your DH for about ten years. One kid. You have a great income and lifestyle; a beautiful house, nice things, lovely car. It’s primarily funded by DH’s job in international sales. It takes him away from home for weeks, sometimes longer, but the material benefits are tangible and obvious. He also tells you one day that he’ll give it up and you’ll live a comfortable life.

Then the bombshell - you find out the sales job isn’t a sales job. Your DH is actually an international assassin. He has a vague moral code - he only takes out adults, only takes out men, only takes out those he considers are criminal or immoral (in his eyes) - bad guys basically. However, he remains a gun for hire.

And yes, I’ve been watching Day of the Jackal.

I don’t fancy strange, gnome-like, lippy Eddie Redmayne, so not in the market for him, whether he’s flogging high-end computers or offing baddies.

As long as it didn’t involve potential danger for me or the kids I wouldn’t care. I’d probably delve deeper into just what constituted “bad people” in his eyes but I’m guessing if it was my husband we probably agree.

I was thinking of Job Bernthal as The Punisher . If that's the case, yanbu to stay. Otherwise yabu. 😆

The 1973 film Day of the Jackal with Edward Fox is one of my favourite films. Is that what you have been watching?
It's absolutely brilliantly made and brilliantly acted. I watch it a couple of times a year and never tire of it.
The total psychopathic coldness of Edward Fox is absolutely chilling.

No. I’ve seen the film but I’ve been watching the more recently TV series.

In RL most gun for hire people climb up the career ladder as a trusted leader within the criminal underworld, it’s high unlikely that his other half is unaware of his dodgy dealings, as he moves from bank robber into drug dealing, accessing guns then taken on a retirement lucrative role as a hit man.

Its alright for him to say he'll give it up but those bad guys he killed will probably have relatives who are also bad guys. So no, Id divorce very very well and move very very far away.

If he was Louis in the Charlie Parker series, I’d stay very happily married and keep stum. Unfortunately Louis is gay and very much in love with his partner, sigh.

I think I’d be fine with it tbh but not if we had kids, I’d be too worried about harm coming to them through his job.

If people liked the Eddie Redmayne series, you might also like the 2 novels by Terry Deary (of Horrible Histories) - Actually I'm a Murderer, and Actually I'm a Corpse. They both have a serial assassin as a main character and are v funny.

Also Richard Osman's book We Solve Murders. Brilliant.
