AIBU to ask what you’d do if your DH revealed he was actually an international gun for hire, and not a salesman?

I ask you to imagine this. You’ve been with your DH for about ten years. One kid. You have a great income and lifestyle; a beautiful house, nice things, lovely car. It’s primarily funded by DH’s job in international sales. It takes him away from home for weeks, sometimes longer, but the material benefits are tangible and obvious. He also tells you one day that he’ll give it up and you’ll live a comfortable life.

Then the bombshell - you find out the sales job isn’t a sales job. Your DH is actually an international assassin. He has a vague moral code - he only takes out adults, only takes out men, only takes out those he considers are criminal or immoral (in his eyes) - bad guys basically. However, he remains a gun for hire.

AIBU to ask what you’d do?

And yes, I’ve been watching Day of the Jackal.

I don’t fancy strange, gnome-like, lippy Eddie Redmayne, so not in the market for him, whether he’s flogging high-end computers or offing baddies.

😂😂😂

I would leave, immediately. His work puts the entire family at risk and I'd want to be as far away as possible.

Madamblueshoes · 24/07/2026 17:21

So long as he was actually Jason Statham I'd be delighted.

muddyford · 24/07/2026 17:25

I'd be thrilled. Send him on deerstalking course and get free venison for life, which benefits woodlands.

That's electricians all over, isn't it? My Dad was very well qualified as one but we lived in a house with crumbling Edwardian wiring. In the 1970s.

Parents moved, he rewired half the village for free as retired and bored

Isn't that the truth! My dad was the same. Designed all the electrics for very famous London hospitals, the biggest shopping centre in the UK of its day.

Had a switch on a live wire hanging from.the bathroom ceiling for two years.

Should have seen my fate coming.

maxslice · 24/07/2026 20:16

I’d get him a psych evaluation.

Octavia64 · 24/07/2026 20:21

Most people who do that sort of work don’t do it for anyone, they have organisations that they work for. Usually intelligence agencies/espionage agencies.

gun for hire and just taking anyone’s money is too risky and far far too like to get you killed/locked up in a foreign country.

if it was for a government (eg works for cia or similar) I’d check the benefits (usually good). They don’t really pay all that well though. You wouldn’t be living that great a lifestyle.

so if that sort of money I’d assume non governmental in which case his life expectancy is low. I’d buy life insurance that covered any kind of death.

hattie43 · 24/07/2026 20:25

I quite like the idea of a vigilante assassin. I could think of a few candidates

wheresthesnowgone · 24/07/2026 20:29

I'd give him a list of people who've wronged me over the years, starting with my geography teacher, uncles wife, various work managers, and the driver who stopped suddenly causing me grief with the insurance company.

CombatBarbie · 24/07/2026 20:58

If real....ask no questions, get told no lies, but half of every job goes into my bank just in case.

Rocknrollstar · 24/07/2026 21:01

I’d ask him to train me to kill people. I’ve always fancied being an assassin.

everthingisgoingtobefine · 24/07/2026 21:04

I'd find that insanely hot actually

Considering he has to be nagged to put his smelly socks on washing basket I don't think international criminals would be shaking in their boots. He would have left the ammunition for the gun in the car and his spy poison would be out of date.

blueshoes · 24/07/2026 21:08

Live by the Sword. Die by the Sword.

Even if people don't find him in the end, they might come after you and the children to get at him especially if he disappears. They will use you as bait to flush him out.

It won't be pretty.

lljkk · 24/07/2026 21:08

I'd be terrified of him, actually.
I suppose I'd work on making him think he wants us to be well but out of his life.

My head immediately went to Arnie in Trur Lies!

Love this film

I'd give him my wish list of people he could take out. It's quite long, it'd keep him busy for a while.

Does he work for some black ops government department or is he freelance for the mob?

Corianda · Yesterday 18:02

Ask him where is the money ?

OttersOnAPlane · Yesterday 18:05

Fall over laughing, probably. I love the fella but he couldn't hit water if he fell off a boat. International assassin? I think not.

Also, True Lies is one of the worst films ever made, and it's revoltingly misogynistic.

DrunkJedi1978 · Yesterday 18:25

I would probably give myself a hernia laughing....I love my husband dearly but he cant find the cling film, let alone track down a fugitive.....

Oh man! Maybe he has been faking learned incompetence all these years.....if that is the case he must be a genius! He wont use my blue light discount card when he takes our son out for pizza so I am not too worried about his morals, but I am definitely going to look at him differently now! 😂

Give him a list

Same. Then we can retire and grow courgettes in the country without worrying that Orange Donny and Musk etc are destroying the world for the rest of us.
