Rude text? Or a valid ‘joke’

My boyfriend stayed over last night, I was clear with him I had a very early WFH meeting and would need him to be gone by 9. He was, but text me mid morning to say ‘bit gutted I had to leave, I was expecting cornflakes and a quick wank’

I told him I was clear I started work at 9 and needed the flat clear so no interruptions.

He replied saying ‘haha obviously joking, it’s a famous film line’. I’ve never heard of it and he hasn’t replied to tell me which one it’s from.

Would anyone else find that rude?

I would not be amused by this so I would be looking at other areas and aspects of the relationship. If all is well then I would put it down to us having very different ideas of what constitutes humour.

And they say romance is dead. Personally I don't like 'lad' humour. It's generally low-brow, sexist and crude, but obviously others do as indicated by other posters, so it's more a matter of compatibility. Have you only just noticed his type of humour?

actually, he gave you the polite version anyway (quote starts with “ Jesus, I…”). Looks like quite a good film. If it weren’t a film quote, it would be a bad text.

what I’ll say is I once had a (v handsome) boyfriend I found thick and annoying. if he said this to me, it’d be added to his thick and annoying list. That boyfriend only lasted about a month, he was too annoying and gave me the ick.

If someone I really liked said this, I’d probably be a bit taken aback, but then find it interesting once I’d seen it was a film quote. In fact, I want to watch this film now.

so, based on your reaction, I think dump him and move on, you’ll just find he does other things that annoy you. Best to nip it in the bud now.

It would make me laugh but I guess your senses of humour are perhaps just a bit of a mismatch. We love a film or TV quote though. Impossible for anyone to ask about salad without a ‘Where’s the salad? Here’s the salad🖕’ situation.

To me it's cheesy but mildly amusing. I'd rather it was his own original creation than him memorising lines from ancient British B Movies though!
I couldn't really find it upsetting or insulting.

If he left in time and you were both happy with the sex then it was a joke. I guess as it was a quote it doesn't have to make a lot of sense, it should have been cornflakes and afters. Surely he would have been looking for something more than a wank.

I don’t like the film, but I’d still appreciate him making a stupid joke/quote especially because 9am is not an early start. OP says she made it quite a point that she had an early work meeting… at 9am. I’d send that sort of stupid quote as a tongue in cheek response to the OP being so weird about 9am being “such an early start.”

I think this all the time when people get offended at things their partner says. They wouldn't last a minute in our house 😀

Don't see a problem, lots of people quote things. Obviously if he argued and pushed to get his way that wouldn't have been ok, but a jokey text is normal.

Let him go . He needs to find someone light-hearted , whether they get a joke or not .

I quite like using movie quotes in every day situations as a bit of a joke, but I don't know this film and don't like Dyer.
