Husband having a go when I touch up make up on holiday

Geoleo · 22/07/2026 17:35

Does your husband have patience with you touching up your make up/putting in a few curls in your hair when you’re on holiday. Obviously in the morning we usually agree a time to leave the room so that’s less an issue. Although he does insist I do my hair / makeup in the bathroom and forbids putting on the light in the room which can be awkward when I need to look for items.

But if we go to the room for a freshen up he is completely on me and moaning if I decide I want to touch up my make up. Just saying “come on hurry up” “we’re wasting time” the entire time etc. Im definitely not putting on a full face just cleaning up lip liner/mascara or brushing my hair and reapplying deodorant. 10 mins at most. I don’t know his moaning has absolutely annoyed me. 10 mins either way should not make a difference to anything. Why can’t he just sit on his phone and not nag me for 10 mins. Is this normal?

i enjoy looking my best. I know not everyone cares for make up but I do

he nags non stop even if we have agreed I can have 10 mins.

What time are you getting up in the morning for him to insist you don't switch the light on?
Surely it's up to you if you want 10 minutes to freshen up?

Shockingly women can wear makeup, have deep interests, enjoy cultural experience and engage in intelligent conversation. This obsession with trying to make it an either or is actually depressing.

Exactly. Wearing make up doesn’t have an impact on my intelligence or my ability to engage in new cultural experiences.
In fact, anyone who does make those assumptions needs to widen their own horizons.

Yep I would seriously question the intelligence of anyone who thinks that wearing makeup detracts from a persons capacity to enjoy and appreciate cultural experiences while on holiday. I wear makeup every single day on holiday and I do lots of interesting and cool things in that country also.

honestly some women really need to realise that if they don’t want to wear makeup than that’s of course fine but it doesn’t make them any better, any more intellectual and any more cultured than women who do wear makeup.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 23/07/2026 10:50

Id tell him to fuck off!

cardibach · 23/07/2026 10:55

You’re a very nasty human.

You said the same to me though.

I know, I dont think I've ever actually come across such a blatent woman hating post from another woman ☹️

Not the original post calling me ‘pick me’ for not wearing make up though? That’s ok with you?

Greypanda86 · 23/07/2026 11:00

Just tell him to fuck off and you’ll take as long as you take, this would drive me mad but I simply wouldn’t allow it, why is a man policing what you do….get to fuck you cheeky bastard

Men have never, ever expected or asked me to ‘falsify’ myself in my entire life lol

Do you wear make up? That’s changing your appearance. Do men do it? On,y rarely. It’s expected of women by many men though.

saraclara · 23/07/2026 11:02

Cherrytree86 · 23/07/2026 06:46

@saraclara

so you want to be up and off?

you don’t shower? Wash hair? Clean teeth? Brush hair? Apply hair?

be for real, no one can just roll out of bed and be up and off (and if they do they shouldn’t as they’ll stink and look shit)

Having a shower, cleaning my teeth and brushing my hair does not take 1.5 hours. Even if it's a hairwash day, I can be out in 45 minutes or less. And no, I don't stink or look shit.

cardibach · 23/07/2026 11:02

MickyMoonshine · 22/07/2026 22:37

What a ridiculous post.
I love make up. I enjoy the act of applying it and creativity of creating different ‘looks’. I don’t think that makes me better than people who don’t wear make up, it’s just an interest of mine. I’m not falsifying myself, I still look like me.

I’m not wearing it for men. In fact I’d be quite happy to never have a man find me attractive ever again.

If you don’t want to wear make up then don’t. But that doesn’t make you better than work who do.

Doesn’t make me worse either, but that didn’t stop the poster being responded to here call me ‘pick me’ and a misogynist…
This is a side discussion though which I’m going to drop now.

What’s going on here then, falsify yourself, change your appearance , how hyperbolic, mean ask for it. The op is clear she wants to.

nothong worse than women judging women and then trying to pretend it’s men’s fault.

It's the level of self absorption that I find worrying. If you are supposed to be enjoying yourself and relaxing on holiday why are you continually thinking about how your make up looks? Do you think that everybody is staring at you and judging whether your lipstick is messy or your mascara smudged? Don't you go on holiday to absorb new experiences rather than spend a good percentage of it looking at your own face in the mirror?

Why on earth have you come to the conclusion you look like a bag of spanners without make up? i don't have good self esteem but describing yourseldf in those terms is pretty extreme.

And of course wearing make up is presenting a version of yourself to the world that isn't the real you.

Who says people continually think about their makeup and think everyone is looking at them?

And yea, no, wearing makeup is really not changing the "me" i present.

You're projecting your own views on to others. Most of us who wear make up really dont think as deeply as you about it.

Sorry i have no idea who you are and I dont recall you being called a pick me directly.

I also kind of agree with the sentiment though 🤷‍♀️

That poster wasn’t me and I’ve not suggested you are worse than me for not wearing make up, I don’t care what other people do.

And I’m in the quote thread anyway. I’m as involved as you became when you joined in.

Is it really 10 minutes though? What you say is "only 10 minutes" is probably nearer half an hour.
Faffers do my nut in, always fannying about when you need to be off.
If I was him, I'd say "meet you by the pool when you're done" or "I'll be in the bar" or whatever.
Can you tell I've had too many years putting up with them lol and don't pander to their shit anymore 😁

@SeaAndSangria

so what if it is nearer to half an hour. No one is stopping him going down to the bar or down the pool or whatever. A couple don’t have to be joined at the hip all the time when on holiday.

💯 mumsnet has a huge issue with makeup and any other silly girl things.

Pick me girls are the worst flavour of misogyny.

What is a pick me girl?

Yeah, I know, which is why I said he should get himself off to the bar or wherever and stop waiting around for her

Were they? What am I judging? I merely said make up is an expectation of many men and that it isn’t ‘pick me’ to not wear it. I’ve read back the thread. Can’t see anything else.

Whatbloodysummer · 23/07/2026 11:51

He sounds like a joyless prick OP.

He 'forbids' you from putting on the main light, I'm assuming that's because he's still asleep/dozing in bed while you're getting ready?

So he just wants you to tiptoe round in the bloody dark until 10mins before the agreed time because HE doesn't feel the need to do anything other than a 5 min shower before leaving?

Erm, fuck no.

I'd honestly be getting ready long before I needed to, just to fuck off out of the room before he even got up, then I'd have a go at him for 'wasting time' having a bloody shower once he caught up with me at breakfast!

I can see why some people interpreted your comment referring to make up as ‘extra paint’ a tad judgmental.

Does it really matter if people choose to boost their confidence through wearing make up? Surely we all have things we do to give us a little boost?
