What is going on in this house?

Right, this is going to sound nosy but here goes...
A house in a street I know was owned by an old lady with no family. When she died, her house stood empty for nearly a year then it started having work done. It's been bought by a health service far away from he town we live in (think I live in Liverpool and NHS Devon and Cornwall bought it) BTW these are not the real locations. So, they do lots of renovations, including putting a much higher fence up which has a key code entry they also put frosted film on every window. There's a new build extension on the side with coded keypads too. This is where 2 carers are. There are 4 carers altogether, 2 at a time and then a swap. There is one man who lives there . He is in his 30s , able bodied can move well etc I've seen him once or twice in the garden in a whole year. Another twice I saw a darkened van come to get him. He was only gone for an hour or so then back.
I cannot imagine the scenario this might be. I'm not curtain twitching and permanently watching but I am fascinated.

This is taking nosiness to a whole new level.

Neighbourmystery · Yesterday 18:17

I know it's a bit embarrassing but I in no way can I talk to real neighbours about it as I don't want to be seen to be nosy 🫣

Definitely don’t talk to them. You have no right to know.

No I know. I definitely wouldn't. That's why I'm chatting on here.

It’s hardly a mystery though is it? The man who lives there needs additional care for whatever reason and has carers there to manage that. That’s it. You don’t need any further info than that, and it would be incredibly nosy to try to find out any more than that.

Waterbaby41 · Yesterday 18:21

Witness protection?

NotAnotherScarf · Yesterday 18:21

Ok you've rumbled it you're living next door to Elvis

TeenLifeMum · Yesterday 18:22

Seriously, if this was happening in anyone’s street you’d be curious! I’ve no idea op but I’d be interested. We once lived near a 3 bed semi that was turned into a halfway house for male prisoners upon release. One of the newly released criminals tried to stab my 19 yo neighbour. We’d had no issues in the three years before that and didn’t even know it existed.

ginasevern · Yesterday 18:22

Probably a supported living facility and this man is the first resident for the time being.

I am not trying to find out in real life. To be clear, I'm just interested. He's very healthy and able so I was just interested about the always 2 carers seperate living quarters and all the security etc

That’s what Neighbourhood Watch is all about. It seems reasonable to me to be interested in what’s going on around you. Sometimes it also saves lives.

hedgehoggle · Yesterday 18:25

You are pretty human to wonder OP. As anyone would. I'd assume assisted living of some sort... possibly more residents to come?

Neighbourmystery · Yesterday 18:25

The house wouldn't be big enough for this. It's a one bed open plan bungalow type

I wish I was so pious that I wasn't interested in unusual events going around me but here we are.

Interesting OP. Whats your theory?

BillieWiper · Yesterday 18:28

Is it literally just the one man in a big house with an extension? It sounds like he's a psych patient if he looks able bodied but always has two carers.

It could be they're going to add more residents if it feels too big for one guy?
He won't be a danger if he's always being watched so I wouldn't get too freaked out!

LaurieFairyCake · Yesterday 18:30

It’s a half way house for ex offenders

sounds exactly like one on the street round the corner from where I used to live

Neighbourmystery · Yesterday 18:31

I'm not freaked out or scared. I thought maybe psych patient and has definitely been moved out of area. The carers are on for a few days at a time and live there before they swap (they are all in the far away nhs branded stuff like lanyards etc) so I'm assuming they have a long travel

Have you seen his health records, including mental health?

If so, that really is nosey and someone could get in a lot of trouble for showing you.

Then it's an assisted living facility for one person at a time. They do exist but aren't common.

Id wonder if it is someone who has been released from a secure psychiatric unit after a criminal conviction. Safe enough to be able to leave but not safe enough to be left alone.

But if it means enough for you to start a thread in which no-one can actually answer, why not ask a carer next time you see them?

"Oh hi, I live over there and I'm just wondering what this place has been turned into now?"

It's not a big deal to ask 🤷‍♂️

Bluebeast · Yesterday 18:40

I was going to say Witness protection or newly released prisoners but the NHS uniform has thrown me. Are you sure the man you've seen lives there and isnt just a visitor?

If he is a visitor then it could be a supported living facility for young mums or disabled people.

Google the road and NHS together in one search. It should show you any properties run by the NHS.

PyongyangKipperbang · Yesterday 18:40

@Neighbourmystery When there was a guy parked right outside my house all day with him sitting in it (front door is straight off the pavement) and I posted on here about being a wee bit freaked out by it, I got this sort of shit too. Told to mind my own business (err I think it was my business!) and that I didnt own the road outside my house (as if that was the issue!) . Some people just like feeling pious and superior!
