You/he/she is a narcissist.

You don't sound very nice/pleasant.

I'm self diagnosed with ADHD/Autism.

She/he must have ADHD/Autism.

You need to make your partner do X. (Because that is how adult relationships work).

Op: I need a new dress.
Mn: here is a shapeless sack the colour of sludge that costs almost £200.

I hate Boden.

I fancy Greg Davies.

...

What have I missed?

Nice. Go for a nice meal, to a nice hotel, have a nice bottle or wine. Surely it’s assumed the thing is going to be good, nobody says let’s celebrate with a mediocre meal or let’s stay in a horrible hotel.

Posh, posh crisps, posh socks, posh jam.

Crusty bread.

Meats and cheeses. Guests for lunch, put out some meats and cheeses. Boxing Day, we have cold meats and cheeses. Self catering, no we don’t cook we just buy some meats and cheeses. Take a picnic, bung some meats and cheeses in a cool bag.
Usually served with the posh crisps and crusty bread.

'You have an alcohol problem” - roughly translates as “You have dared to actually enjoy a couple of drinks”.

Alternatively, 'at least a bottle of wine a night and twice that at the weekend?! So what that's perfectly normal and healthy! Ignore the bores on here who aren't alkies' Confused.

Deuce26 · 20/07/2026 15:20

Accusing everyone's husband of having an affair. It actually minimises the other problems.

He came home late, once...
... He's having an affair

He didn't wash up his coffee cup.
... He's having an affair

The sky is blue.
... He's having an affair

LeaderBee · 20/07/2026 15:22

Not all men, but it's always a man. 🙄

EmptyInTheValley · 20/07/2026 15:36

Use your words.
And many others already mentioned here. Especially the "what did they say when you asked them?" one.

Sherpaio · 20/07/2026 15:40

I’m sure it’s been mentioned but “have you considered whether he / she is ND”, the catch all excuse for everything and anything.

Similar to the “is he gay” if DH or DP has lost interest in sex. It’s the equivalent of a man calling a woman a lesbian if they don’t want to sleep with them.

Are you in the Mental health field? Have you diagnosed other MH conditions or sign posted them?
Mine are, Tat, twee, entitled, grabby and sex pest (when it's a situation that the spouse just wanted to talk about or acknowledge the lack of sex).

Yes, I’m a psychiatrist.

This reminds me of Catchphrase.

'Is it rubber ducks in a line, Roy?'

'It's good but it's not right.'

Twice this week I’ve read yet again on MN the word vanishingly. This word doesn’t exist outside of MN. I have never heard anyone in real
life, in any context, ever say it. What type of people say this word? Is it a very posh word or something? It sets my teeth on edge.

This made me laugh, but only a chuckle, not a howl. 😄

The people who claim their emetophobia is diagnosed. I’m a doctor, almost quarter of a century qualified. Lots of my friends are doctors. We have collectively a few hundred years of being qualified doctors in various specialties. And not one of us has ever diagnosed emetophobia.

"almost quarter of a century qualified"

So about 24 years then? 😁

Sorry but this post has just reminded me of something else a lot of MNetters do.

They'll use the word 'decades' to try and overemphasise something.

"I've been married for three decades"

Yet if you ask a 30 year old how old they are, they don't tend to say 'I'm 3 decades old'.

“Vanishingly small” very much does. I am trying to remember where I first heard it. I think it was either The Good Life or Fawlty Towers

How everything is "outing" which is why some people are so vague

That reminds me, did anyone find out where in Europe that poster was? She didn’t like city but refused to say where it was. I dropped out the thread and forgot about it till now.
