To ask which city you'd move to in England if you didn't live there already

I am thinking about it. Would prefer not London tbh although appreciate that's where the jobs are (and in some ways it's probably the easiest fit for outsiders).

Where is friendly, has stuff to do, jobs and the like. I think my answer is going to end up being Newcastle (but I like York).

I loved London ten years ago but absolutely could not face it now. Even then I was often the oldest person on the tube by a mile (in my thirties)

Really ? London is a very old city they are closing primary schools.

It's a child free city - makes sense if first time parents are in their thirties and there are few adults under 35

me too. I used to live there but we moved for DH's job (joint decision) We planned to move back but he died and from what I can see of it online, much of it has really changed......you can never really go back.

I grew up in a very rural area so living in a city is an unusual thing for me (except uni many years ago when I was at Liverpool). York or Durham for me if I had to choose, mostly for proximity to Minster/cathedral.

I should have allowed towns too towns are allowed

I do like an arty, bohemian vibe. My ideal town would be a mix of Oxford, Bath and Glastonbury. Brighton has the nice arty, intellectual side, but it also has a nasty, violent undercurrent.

I couldn't live in a big city .

York would be my city of choice - we don't have any family links there but I feel at home there (Yorkshire generally, but especially York). We have had numerous short breaks there.

Chester would be choice 2, but I am on the doorstep so I think I take it for granted.

Lucky for you, Cheltenham isn't a city. It is a lovely place to live though!

London without doubt but only if I had the money to buy in a nice location.

I live in Bath- in Cheltenham this weekend for Hs birthday- very nice too , not quite as well connected train wise but could def live here!! Nice bits of London too, I also do like York

Liverpool for me.

I also like York, Chester, Exeter, Winchester, Salisbury, Canterbury and Chichester.

In fact I'd probably go for Chester as it's smaller than Liverpool but easy to get there.

Otherwise I'd go to Cardiff, Edinburgh or Stirling.

If towns are allowed also Cheltenham. A nice place and really well connected when it comes to trains.

I liked Worcester too. It's a long time since I went to Lichfield but I liked that when I was there as well.

Cheshire and Warwickshire are nice counties.

Well I live in Scotland and no plans to live in England but if I were to, it’d be either London or Newcastle

So, so many places I think would be nice to live in!

First, where I actually live - Leamington Spa. And next-door Warwick too (the two towns are joined at the hip).

For cities; York, Bath, Winchester, Wells, Ely, Harrogate.
