AIBU to find my friend's Instagram posts about her stay rather odd?

AIBU to think this very odd behaviour or am i just behind the times: My friend of 30 yrs ,we met at primary school ,she lives 100 miles from me came to visit with her husband and 4 children for a week. We live in a touristy place. We spent a lovely week taking them to local places with our family, pretty villages, restaurants, museums, beaches etc, My friend is very active on social media particularly Instagram. I have instagram but am not very active.
After my friends stay she posted pictures of her stay, each place we had visited including my house and garden as if it were a magazine photo shoot,it was as if they lived in my house or it was a holiday home and we didn't exist. She captioned the photos holiday/holiday home/family holiday. In fact she had erased us from some photos. Is this strange or am i behind the times?

Personally I wouldn't want photos of my home plastered over the internet. Shouldn't the friend ask permission or something before she did this. Admittedly I know very little about the protocols of social media.

I suppose i dont want to embarrass or offend her in any way. I just want to understand if this is a modern phenomena that i havent grasped or if its a bit odd.
She invited herself tbh ,i agreed because she is a nice person,i just thought this issue strange.

Wait, what!?!? "She invited herself"?

Herself, "her husband and 4 children for a week"?

Fucking helllShock!

OP has been conned all round. Cheeky cow!

ThisAgileScroller · 15/07/2026 18:07

Id be commenting underneath saying. " look lovely where you stayed , what were the owners like 🤭😉"

Mylovleymug · 15/07/2026 18:17

I agree with you, she could have asked if its ok to post pics of your private family home.
I would take it that she wanted to appear she was holidaying in a holiday rental.
In any of her posts did she # @ you, thanks for the amazing stay? (For a week with my husband and 4 kids).
If not, you have your answer.
Personally, I wouldn't welcome her again.

Caramelcap · 15/07/2026 18:34

If this were me posting I’d have captioned something like “Thanks OP for looking after us! Brilliant break away in the Cotswolds” (or wherever you live)!

It does seem like she’s pretending she’s rented an air bnb for some bizarre reason - probably keeping up with the school mums or some BS x

I think your friend has been bloody cheeky. I would comment on her post something along the lines of, So glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, we were very happy to accommodate you!

How?

She’s made it clear it was a holiday.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/07/2026 19:20

Many OTT responses here.

are you on IG, OP? If not, she’s being polite not to include you.

I imagine what she’s doing is posting in a certain aesthetic way ie photos of places / food, rather than people. I really doubt it’s some aspirational style of influencing or that she’s pretending it’s AirBnB or gifted.

Perhaps she could have asked if you were ok to be pictured / tagged but I don’t think it’s as deep an issue as you (or really other posters) are making it.

thisisyoursign · 15/07/2026 19:20

It’s either to protect your privacy or trying to make it seem like they’ve rented/own a holiday home. I think it might be the latter because she could have easily said lovely holiday with friends or something to mention you anonymously. I also don’t really think it’s about privacy because she posted photos of your home and garden - I’d find this a bit intrusive unless if was a picture of people with the garden in the background etc

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 15/07/2026 19:23

The fact she never said she’d be posting photos of your home or ask if you’d mind if she posted ones with you in is very weird. However, you all had a nice time so maybe ignore it, or ask her outright when you speak to her.

thisisyoursign · 15/07/2026 19:25

heyjudedontmakeitsad · 15/07/2026 19:08

How?

She’s made it clear it was a holiday.

Because OP said one of the captions was “holiday home” which is more widely considered a rental or owned property, not staying with friends

Mumlaplomb · 15/07/2026 19:29

Very cheeky to post your home and garden without your consent, and very cheeky to pretend it’s some kind of air b and b! Taking photos of scenery when out and about is ok in my mind but the rest is super cheeky.

BuildbyNumbere · 15/07/2026 19:29

She should have asked before posting pics of your house and garden, whether you are in them or not!!!

GreatPinkViper · 15/07/2026 19:30

I think its an odd thing to do. Even if she wanted to protect your privacy she could have captioned the photos something like " great holiday with family and lovely friends". I would definitely comment and say that you enjoyed hosting her and her family

Searchingforliberty · 15/07/2026 19:56

It's impolite to post pictures of other people on social media.

Alittlefrustrated · 15/07/2026 20:55

Is she implying that they have their own "holiday home" OP?
People do some strange things on SM - it's like a performance.
I'd let it slide.
There was an almost identical thread last year.

CelestialCandyfloss · 15/07/2026 21:01

Nah this is not about privacy if she's tagged it holiday home / family holiday - she's making out it's hers 😂😬 I would comment saying thanks for visiting, you have done a great job photographing my house, it looks lovely! 😂😂😂

ReadingInBed88 · 15/07/2026 22:15

It seems cheeky and actually still an invasion of your privacy! Maybe you don't want your home on social media...she should have asked you!

IsThistheMiddleofNowhere · 15/07/2026 22:15

I don't think its anything to do with protecting your privacy. Its a sign of the times. Instagram is very showy offy with self-obsessed people only posting their most glamorous selfies in enviable places to impress others with their perfect lives. I would just be flattered that she finds your home Instagram-worthy.

WonderingWanda · 15/07/2026 22:18

Post a reply saying " Ah, thanks so much, really appreciate the massive compliment about our home!! Thanks for removing us from the pics for privacy but there really was no need. You are so welcome for the stay!!" Or something like that.

Livpool · 15/07/2026 22:18

Comment that she is welcome for the free lodgings!

Whatabouterry · 15/07/2026 22:21

I’d see it as respectful and protecting my privacy. I’d never upload photos of friends or family, personally.

Strawberrybananasmoothie · 16/07/2026 07:10

MsIceSandwich · 15/07/2026 07:49

She probably wanted to protect your privacy.

She hasn’t. She’s posted photos of OP’s home on insta.

Dered · 16/07/2026 09:48

Perhaps she is trying to impress her followers as they may not be able to afford a ' proper holiday' with 4 children.?
However, it is still weird and very sad IMHO
