AIBU to complain about a large group taking over our swim-up pool?

On a much needed holiday nice resort booked a suite that has swim up pool to the 6 adjoining rooms. This is on a huge resort with 4 big pools this is a separate small pool just for these rooms but it’s perfect for us as our youngest is a nervous swimmer.
on Monday there were a few kids climbing over the wall we were on our balcony not using pool but could see this playing out. They all jumped in the pool, joined by 6 adults drinks in hand climbing over wall also (it’s a tiny wall to denote separation a foot or two high)
anyways someone in the downstairs room called reception someone came along to tell the 6 adults and 8 kids this is for these rooms only but you can stay an hour.
yest we were in the pool and they all rocked up again this time trying to take our sunbeds saying could we use these as your in pool as their numberous children starting jumping into pool. It was chaos, got dc out out and said to one of the women who could speak English - this pool is just a small pool for these few rooms only to which she said I’m staying in that one (pointed to a room she could or could not be staying in I haven’t seen anyone coming or going so not sure?!))
anyways I said well these rooms sleep four so the rest of these people aren’t staying here she was aggressive as were the rest and said it’s not up to you I paid for my room these are my guests. I said that’s not how it works this is rude a couple I wouldn’t mind but that many kids and adults just force’s everybody else who actually has a room there out.
didn’t call reception as dc were worried it would kick off if we saw them again but I’m pissed off so would it be unreasonable that If this large group do the same again today and the hotel won’t sort them out I arrange for all my guests (me gathering up everyone I’ve spoke to at the hotel to congregate here so there’s no room for the cheeky fuckers?! Or I’m open to other suggestions I’m not above tell youngest to dirty protest in the pool if needed 😂

Complain to reception immediately, every time. Complain to management. ask for a refund as you have paid for something you are now not getting. Point out that you can't just crack on and use the pool whil these randoms are in there, because you have told them they can't use it so now they are being arsey with you and you feel int imidated. Come to thing of it, a refund isn't really enough, because now the hotel are allowing these people to bully you, you would like compensation.

Basically be more trouble to the staff than the other group, and they will pull their finger out and do something about it.

You lost me at dirty protest

Absolutely vile

BottleJobs · Today 08:38

All sorted one way or another…
spoke to guest services manager who was horrified to be told that they were given an hours grace the other day and said they should have been removed immediately and that in the future that’s what they will do, told me not to engage with them just call guest services, I asked for security to check around 4pm which she agreed and I said if it happened again today I would progress with tui. However as I was leaving reception area who do I see arriving with suitcases in tow but the aggressive woman and her daughter do I can only assume she’s either checking out or moving rooms

Your suggestions are completely disgusting

BottleJobs · Today 08:39

Again to clarify since my attempt at humour is failing there will be no dirty protests none at all I promise

Definitely demand a refund. Cheeky of the hotel to charge more when the pool is essentially open to anyone. Which it sounds like it is.

Just read that it's zee Germans... good luck OP, Germans are generally fierce when it comes to relaxation around a pool. Must be in the blood.

Viviennemary · Today 08:40

If the hotel can't ensure that only the six rooms have the use of the pool then they can't advertise it as such. Tell them you will be reporting them to for false advertising.

EllaDeeDee · Today 08:40

Unless you complain to reception, there’s literally no point ranting about it. They’re the only ppl who can fix it. No point ruining your own holiday by sitting back and letting ppl annoy you, without trying to at least put a stop to it.

This would really annoy me too, but I’d be straight onto reception to complain.

AlleycatMarie · Today 08:43

Edited as I read your update. Enjoy your holiday!

WearyAuldWumman · Today 08:44

Glad that things appear to be sorted, @BottleJobs .

Coralsunset · Today 08:46

I would request a refund as you aren’t getting what you paid for. That should spur the hotel into action hopefully.

babyproblems · Today 08:47

You should speak to reception

wildnwilde · Today 08:47

Have you paid more and did you chose this room and accommodation cos you wanted this semi private space ? I'f so I would deffo tell them to fucking move and get them moved . If it was just a kick of the draw thing I don't think I'd be arsed asuch tho I'd still voice my complaint to reception.

Baking07 · Today 08:49

Very poor of the hotel.
They would definitely be told that I will be reporting it to TUI and it will be a large part of my review that this extra was a complete waste of money as the staff allowed other guests to use it.

No way would I accept this.
This has caused upset and stress onnan expensive holiday and I would let them know it will be in my review.

MyNameIsBatty · Today 08:49

Can't believe that some people think the dirty protest was anything other than a joke.
Glad it is sorted. Enjoy your holiday!

sleepwouldbenice · Today 08:49

Hello OP
1st of all it was obvious that the dirty protest was a joke.... some people
2ndly glad you have it sorted
3rdly genuinely dont stop now. You dont have to be an ass about it but the hotel has been poor. They can give you a nice experience to offset it eg complimentary something. They should in fact be offering

Flamingojune · Today 08:53

Icky joke though

Put in a strong complaint to a manager. You have paid to share this pool with 3 other rooms. The large group of people who are climbing over the wall haven’t . Essentially, it’s theft.

Yes you need to go see the manager and in strongest terms ask that they are not allowed even an hour next time. Ask for a direct number to escalate this to next time they rock up. Tell them you will be expecting a refund because why should you pay extra when people who didn’t pay can just climb over the wall?

Malasana · Today 08:57

These cheeky pool dossers are the equivalent of them not having paid for breakfast but coming to eat yours.
Swim up pools are expensive and well over the price of a different room.
While it’s been dealt with now, your enjoyment was spoiled and you had to spend time sorting it out no way should they have been given an hours grace. Ridiculous! Go back to guest services and say while you appreciate it’s been dealt with now, what can they provide for the inconvenience. I’d be wanting a free bottle of wine with dinner or something at the very least.

Wadsworthy · Today 09:00

You have to speak to the hotel manager. You've paid an extra cost for the swim-up pool, and I'm guessing it was pretty hefty. If the manager does nothing, point this out. And then ring the Manager Every.Single.Time these CFs try it on.

Wadsworthy · Today 09:09

Ooops, I see it's sorted. Well done @BottleJobs It's hard to make a complaint - Brits are not trained in it by our culture. I learn a lot by listening to my American friends, who seem to be able to make complaints graciously.

That said, Germans are in my experience (I have German relatives) very plain speaking & you can be plain speaking back without them seeing it as an offence. In fact, they see us as a bit weak for our ideas of politeness and tolerance.

Delphiniumandlupins · Today 09:10

This is going to turn into one of those annoying RTFT!

Go down to reception - do not waste your breath on general staff. Insist on manager or deputy.... and kick off premptively.

  • Be angry
  • Be really clear their management to date has been crap. the fact someone came along to tell the 6 adults and 8 kids this is for these rooms only but you can stay an hour. Is OUTRAGEOUS.
  • The other guest was aggressive and threatening. How di thry intend to deal with it?
  • what are they going to do next time it happens because it will... one hour isnt a solution for you.
  • if they cant provide the service you paid for and manage rude ignorant guests you will need a 30% refund for the week if your private pool is going to be treated as a public one.
  • You are a reasonable person so would also accept an upgrade to a fully private villa / pool
  • what compensation are they offering for the days already disrupted (id take hotel vouchers or booze)

You didnt pay 6/8k to feel this stressed and have to negotiate usage of a pool ypu paid for.

Do this preemptively and say their management of this problem so far has been AWFUL - what can they offer to ameliorate

Poor you... go in hard and get it sorted. Personally I think an upgrade is best outcome

THIS!

I would be absolutely raging that they said the interlopers could stay an hour - that’s absurd!! Of course they are then going to take the absolute piss.

YesIKnowThatThankyou · Today 09:23

Glad it’s sorted. There’s nothing worse than looking forward to and saving up for something special only to have it messed up by selfish people, in this case chancers.

I would be speaking to manager/ guest services about how they can make sure this doesn’t happen again to you. You don’t need this on holiday.

Swim up pool sounds fab!
