AIBU to complain about a large group taking over our swim-up pool?

On a much needed holiday nice resort booked a suite that has swim up pool to the 6 adjoining rooms. This is on a huge resort with 4 big pools this is a separate small pool just for these rooms but it’s perfect for us as our youngest is a nervous swimmer.
on Monday there were a few kids climbing over the wall we were on our balcony not using pool but could see this playing out. They all jumped in the pool, joined by 6 adults drinks in hand climbing over wall also (it’s a tiny wall to denote separation a foot or two high)
anyways someone in the downstairs room called reception someone came along to tell the 6 adults and 8 kids this is for these rooms only but you can stay an hour.
yest we were in the pool and they all rocked up again this time trying to take our sunbeds saying could we use these as your in pool as their numberous children starting jumping into pool. It was chaos, got dc out out and said to one of the women who could speak English - this pool is just a small pool for these few rooms only to which she said I’m staying in that one (pointed to a room she could or could not be staying in I haven’t seen anyone coming or going so not sure?!))
anyways I said well these rooms sleep four so the rest of these people aren’t staying here she was aggressive as were the rest and said it’s not up to you I paid for my room these are my guests. I said that’s not how it works this is rude a couple I wouldn’t mind but that many kids and adults just force’s everybody else who actually has a room there out.
didn’t call reception as dc were worried it would kick off if we saw them again but I’m pissed off so would it be unreasonable that If this large group do the same again today and the hotel won’t sort them out I arrange for all my guests (me gathering up everyone I’ve spoke to at the hotel to congregate here so there’s no room for the cheeky fuckers?! Or I’m open to other suggestions I’m not above tell youngest to dirty protest in the pool if needed 😂

Speak to the hotel reception.

Tontostitis · Today 06:48

You lost me at dirty protest

In the name I am a bottle job and would chicken out of such tactics but it’s got me considering all kinds of crazy ideas. We have another week here just don’t want reception to again say move along but you can have a hour it’s no deterrent

Put in a strong complaint to a manager. You have paid to share this pool with 3 other rooms. The large group of people who are climbing over the wall haven’t . Essentially, it’s theft.

Thawtfulpanda · Today 06:53

Well your only choice is to go to reception or have a full on confrontation with them. I'd do the former.

Or you could wait for them to hop the wall and tell them a dead animal was found in the pool and it has to be cleaned and so no one can use it for a week.

BlueMum16 · Today 06:53

Speak to reception and ask for a move if they don't sort it.

Did you book direct with the hotel or through TUI or someone? I'd speak to your rep too if you have one.

RoseField1 · Today 06:54

YABU not to complain to management!

If they do that again then complain. Everytime the people turn up go to reception or ring them, and say you’re not happy with them being given an hour as they just keep coming back.

The people in the pool won’t necessarily know it was you, and you may not be the only one complaining anyway - you already know someone else has.

Supersleepysheepy · Today 06:56

Who did you book through? Would it be worth complaining to them? I wouldn't be happy either.

Sassylovesbooks · Today 06:57

You need to be firm with Reception. You have paid the extra, and the pool comes with the room that you have booked. Those using the pool aren't staying in any of the rooms that have use of the pool, so therefore shouldn't be using it.

Reception telling this family they could use it for an hour, has given the family the green light to come back.

Nelly44 · Today 06:57

Your saying if the hotel don’t do something you’ll go to plan b - but you’re not reporting it so how can they intervene!

JumpingRabbit · Today 07:00

I’m not sure why you need to ask really. Get on to reception every single time. I’m also not sure why you listened to a DC over whether you should complain or not. You are the adult, you decide how to deal with things in an adult way.

AlphaApple · Today 07:07

You need to kick off big time. Be very clear with the hotel that you have paid for an amenity that is being taken by people who have made paid for it.

What rude people!

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · Today 07:09

Wtf? I'd be so angry whoever it was let them stay for an hour the first time and I would have complained before now to the manager, every time. If it's so poorly designed that people can do this then the hotel needs to police it properly. It's also a security risk for you.

Pinksalamana · Today 07:10

I’m struggling to make sense of most of your posts, but I did get the bit about letting your kids shit in the pool. Grim. And would absolutely make you a huge C**t.

Obviously you need to speak to reception if you think people are using the pool when they shouldn’t be.

Sereine · Today 07:11

Go to reception, tell them they need to sort this properly or move you. And there can't be any question of letting the interlopers stay an hour. If Reception won't do it, insist on talking to the manager.

BottleJobs · Today 07:11

it was a joke I would not get my child to shit in the pool my kids would not comply anyway it would be more likely dh

Been there. You need to complain to reception everytime and follow it up every time in writing to keep a record.

GingerBeverage · Today 07:13

And the bar needs to stop serving them.

BottleJobs · Today 07:13

Anyways I will go to reception now and preempt the 4pm descent from our German visitors. I completely agree that hours grace completely set a precedent they now know they can get at least 20 mins whilst the reception actually get someone over here to an hour as staff want to avoid trouble from them all

Oh for gods sake it was a joke! Very obviously

TutTutTutSigh · Today 07:15

Very poor of the hotel to let them stay the first time. Tell them you'd like an hour in the honeymoon suite with butler service!

This has always put me off swim up rooms unfortunately, they usually look very accessible and no privacy on the balcony 😑.

User0311 · Today 07:15

I would be fuming! The swim up rooms always cost more why should you pay for it for then someone else to use it!

BottleJobs · Today 07:16

Dh now saying he could have saved the £700 difference if he’d have known we could have hopped the wall too 🙈😂

Go down to reception - do not waste your breath on general staff. Insist on manager or deputy.... and kick off premptively.

  • Be angry
  • Be really clear their management to date has been crap. the fact someone came along to tell the 6 adults and 8 kids this is for these rooms only but you can stay an hour. Is OUTRAGEOUS.
  • The other guest was aggressive and threatening. How di thry intend to deal with it?
  • what are they going to do next time it happens because it will... one hour isnt a solution for you.
  • if they cant provide the service you paid for and manage rude ignorant guests you will need a 30% refund for the week if your private pool is going to be treated as a public one.
  • You are a reasonable person so would also accept an upgrade to a fully private villa / pool
  • what compensation are they offering for the days already disrupted (id take hotel vouchers or booze)

You didnt pay 6/8k to feel this stressed and have to negotiate usage of a pool ypu paid for.

Do this preemptively and say their management of this problem so far has been AWFUL - what can they offer to ameliorate

Poor you... go in hard and get it sorted. Personally I think an upgrade is best outcome
