Vegans

I find them a bit meh. I'm happy for them to do their own thing if they leave me alone. I think this is overstepping. Do vegans not have pets? After all, keeping pets is just forcing animals to live and be controlled by humans.

A bird handler is holding a hawk on his gloved hand. A blurred crowd is stood behind him. The hawk has food clasped in its beak.

Yep some were.

So they were also abusive

Sounds like a cat fight and you all behaved poorly hence banned

Being as you have said you didn’t do anything wrong yet you were banned, you’re the one full of BS.

Your posts make it very obvious each time you come back with another account or username. You are a pbp with yet another account. One of the threads was very dramatic with loads of your posts deleted because they were horrible, before they finally banned you. People don’t forget stuff like that.

Oh I see. Thought so

'would you judge someone eating a chicken salad in the same way as someone scoffing a pork pie?'

Well not the salad bit no, the chicken bit yes. Animals should not suffer horrific deaths in slaughterhouses so you can have your burger and/or chicken. So many healthy alternatives to meat anyway. Do better!

Not a chance!

again - did you raise your children as vegetarians? And, as adults, do they remain as such

Werhere · Yesterday 09:42

I don’t eat burgers and pork pie… but a delicious chicken and avocado salad? You’ve just inspired my lunch @Gloriia

Gloriia · Yesterday 10:19

You don't care about the horrific suffering of animals in slaughterhouses? And to sound so proud of yourself too Confused

Not so confidence of your stance that you’re not willing to tell us if you raised your kids as vegetarian, pouring this judgement into their ears.

and more interestingly… do they remain vegetarian

There’s extremist twats in all walks of life.

edited because I realised this might be taken wrongly!
I don’t mean all vegans are extremist twats!! Ones who hand out inappropriate leaflets to children obviously are, or go on and on and try and convert you are.

Many it would seems gravitate towards mumsnet

I absolutely love vegans. My toddler DD has a severe dairy and egg allergy and because of the rise of veganism there are more vegan options on restaurant menus than ever.

Lots of vegan recipes online as well so we have been eating vegan food a lot recently.

I have family members who are plant based. They don’t talk about it or act remotely superior. It’s a private thing that matters to them. They care deeply about how animals are farmed. And live their life with as much integrity to their beliefs as possible. They did have a rescue cat that was found frozen in snow as a kitten and had life long breathing problems. They went without themselves to pay for vet bills. The cat lived for 15 years on special diet and an inhaler. Don’t judge. Many vegans are quiet and private about it.
they are good people. I wish I could be so disciplined.

Funny that that they don’t talk about it and are private yet you have an in depth knowledge of their reasons behind it and how they live their daily life….how do you know all this

Do you know how low the bar is for free range? It’s not chickens outside in lots of space like on the happy eggs adverts. In reality they have very little space and many won’t see outside.

I know a vet who inspects chicken breeding farms for animal welfare standards. He said the problem with free range chickens is that they have plenty of space to go outside but they all choose to stay in the tiny hut squashed up next to each other 🤣 So the farmers pay for all this land and none of them bloody using it. But they’re choosing to do it and that’s the main thing!

Exactly this! If I had to group people together it would be twats and not twats. Know lots of cool vegans, also know some twat vegans 🤷‍♀️

I couldn't care less, I'm yet to meet a vegan who announces it.

Surely the protest was about animal/bird welfare and they happen to be vegan.

I was vegetarian early 90s for over 15 years. My food was naturally vegan because there was no Quorn or meat substitutes.

I don't recall annoying anbody, but I think if I came across you, that you'd annoy me regardless of views.

Edited

Quorn was absolutely available in the 90s! It was only burgers & sausages back then, then came the mince but yes it definitely existed. It was launched in 1985!

I think calling oneself “plant based” has to be even more irritating surely?

Plant based is slightly different as it’s a diet rather than a lifestyle choice, for instance those on a plant based diet might buy animal products such as leather where vegans would avoid anything that came from an animal.

OceanSafari · Yesterday 13:06

I could be wrong, but the way i understand it is, vegan is an entire lifestyle based on avoiding harm to animals (insects too?), including no leather, honey etc. While a plant-based diet refers to people that eat that way for a variety of reasons (health/intolerance/preference).

Yes I know what it means, I’m just saying it’s a wholly insufferable way to refer to yourself.

There's only one thing worse than an anti-vegan, and that's an anti-vegan who won't shut up about it. Jesus, get a grip. There's nothing to oppose. We just refrain from killing animals. Can you not cope with that?

This!

The only time I talk about my choices are when others around me bring it up - either out of interest, or perhaps because they feel bad that they still eat meat? One particular friend always loudly announces that I’m the awkward one, then proceeds to modify their food order to remove the things they don’t like!

Yeah I’ve done a little activism, wouldn’t you if you felt passionately about something? Just like I’ve protested about plastic in the sea, rights for adoptive parents, and better support for bereaved families.

Stockholm syndrome.

Mezzoprezzo · Yesterday 13:28

I'm vegan and don't really talk about it unless someone asks. Firstly because I'm aware people find it irritating. And secondly because I find anyone who constantly announces the reasoning behind their food choices slightly ridiculous. It's so prevalent I'm in no doubt that plenty of the anti vegans on this thread do it and can't see the double standards. So how about i don't tell you I'm vegan, and you don't tell me you're avoiding UPFs, giving up sugar, low carbing, calorie counting, slimming worlding, yada yada yada.

Rubyupbeat · Yesterday 13:29

You are generalising vegans. There are so many groups I would not touch with a barge pole, fanatics, rejoicing when a hunts woman died from a fall from her horse . I hate hunting but would not be happy with that. Turning tgeir backs on family members as they still eat meat etc .....But the majority of vegans are normal everyday folk, we are vegan, but other than close friends and family, no-one knows. It's just our lifestyle.

HangingOver · Yesterday 13:45

We're devastated 🤣
