To un-invite friend from dinner after she sent me message by mistake - Update

1000 replies

Dinnertext · 09/07/2026 18:01

Hi all, my previous thread closed before I had the chance to add any further post today. For those interested, my friend replied to my message where I said I was upset she hadn’t apologised.

She ignored that part, and basically demanded I re-invite her on Saturday because it’s too late for her to make any alternative plans and it’s unfair to expect her to spend the evening alone. She reiterated the takeaway ‘offer’ and said as far as she is concerned , my Husband has said she’s still more than welcome to attend.

DH has just repeated the same position in that he’s staying out of it and that he wouldn’t turn anyone away at the door. He has basically told me this evening to be the bigger person and draw a line under it and not risk ruining his and his friends evening.

Are you the same one demanding to know the exact menu?

Yep! This poster has mistaken the thread for a police interrogation 🤣

Oh, you're so right, it is absolutely bonkers to ask what the three course meal was on a two-thread saga about someone needing pepto after eating said meal, which has led to posters crying OP must divorce her husband over not taking this rank insult more seriously and defending her honour...

Yes but now you’ve moved on and you’re demanding OP’s BMI

You just know the thread would be inundated with posters saying how they love or hate the dish, too. Like “change the locks.”

I think you might be fantasising here.

I’ve been involved in enough squabbles on this thread already so I will just let this go.

Have a think about how you communicate. You have asked OP for specific information over and over again. If she wanted to share it she would. Learn how to judge people’s responses

It would be the start of 100s of derails for sure

two-thread saga

Over two threads, OP has posted 44 times, which means other Mumsnetters ie us have posted about 1770 posts. It is us who have made into a ‘two-thread saga’, not OP.

gannett · 12/07/2026 15:34

Apologies if I've missed this over the two threads but the most important aspect of this whole saga doesn't seem to have been mentioned - ie what is this woman usually like and how much did the OP like her to start with? Because my reaction would be completely dependent on that. Some, I'd be hurt, but because they're such a good friend I could move on. Some, I could shrug it off as "just what she's like" - I have a friend who isn't afraid to make shady remarks about mutual friends to me, so I'm under no illusions that she doesn't do the same about me to them. And some, I'd be pretty quick to drop.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 12/07/2026 16:10

What was the chant ?'.she's coming home, she's comimg home she's coming Dinnertexts coming home.

CheltenhamLady · 12/07/2026 16:23

Not a popular view, but it seems like a storm in a teacup to me.

The woman has explained why she sent the Pepto text and what it was about. I wouldn't be expecting an apology. It is clear they either ate something that disagreed with them or had a 24-hour bug. I would just have reiterated that both me and DH were fine, and they must either be very sensitive or it was a bug.

I really couldn't be doing with the drama.

Let her bring a takeaway and just watch the match.

It was that and something along the lines of ‘she eats where she wants’ referencing my friends name.

Omfg your husband gets a more and more disrespectful rude prick the more this thread goes on. You actually sound a door mat 🤔

What a horrible trio. I honestly couldn't look at DH the same way if he not only allowed but joined in this treatment of me.

This would be the end for me. It's actually worse than the horrible friend.

Esmeraldathe3rd · 12/07/2026 16:58

So your husband was openly mocking you and cheering that your friend has "won" and can do what she wants.

Lovely bloke. Congratulations.

Don't know how you can look at the bloke. They all know you're not going to stand up for yourself so you might as well just let it go and give up. They don't care either way

To be fair, he is right about that.

Oh I thought it was just chanting ‘Come on England’ or something.

So, what are you going to do about them all? You do have a choice, but I think now it’s up to you to do something or just accept their treatment of you. And if you accept it, best of luck 🤷‍♀️.

@Dinnertext you really can't let this shit slide. It's bad enough that he didn't back you up initially, but to loudly mock you like that is not on. And has he cleared up after them either? You really need to put your foot down and insist that if we do make it to the final, that he either watches it at home with just you, or he goes elsewhere if he wants to watch with them.

Chocolattecoffeecup · 12/07/2026 17:38

OP I think it's a bit shitty if your DH to offer to host them again given all that's happened and I'd be telling him to rescind the invite. His fault for offering.
