To un-invite friend from dinner after she sent me message by mistake - Update

1000 replies

Dinnertext · 09/07/2026 18:01

Hi all, my previous thread closed before I had the chance to add any further post today. For those interested, my friend replied to my message where I said I was upset she hadn’t apologised.

She ignored that part, and basically demanded I re-invite her on Saturday because it’s too late for her to make any alternative plans and it’s unfair to expect her to spend the evening alone. She reiterated the takeaway ‘offer’ and said as far as she is concerned , my Husband has said she’s still more than welcome to attend.

DH has just repeated the same position in that he’s staying out of it and that he wouldn’t turn anyone away at the door. He has basically told me this evening to be the bigger person and draw a line under it and not risk ruining his and his friends evening.

I would be telling him if they go through then it's at the 'friend's' house. No discussion.

Jeschara · 12/07/2026 12:19

You need to sort out your husband. This man does not have your back. I would have stern words with him and tell him if there I'd a repeat of this you will be considering your options.
Honestly, he is a weak specimen, puts himself and his mates first. Men like that make me sick.

Jeschara · 12/07/2026 12:24

Can I also ask, is your husband in awe of this couple. Does he toady up to them? Honesty I would have zero respect for your husband.

CherryViper · 12/07/2026 12:28

So your OH knew thsi was upsetting you, then cheered and chanted at you? Then invited them over again?

I will reiterate what someone else said, you husband is NOT on the fence, he is firmly on the other side. His behaviour is worse than your friend's. He is selfish and unkind.

I would state your case to both of them and have boundaries in place. I would make alternative plans with your other friends for the night of the final.

CherryViper · 12/07/2026 12:31

Your DH's standard are the level below hell.

He has behaved like a childish arsehole.

chaosmaker · 12/07/2026 12:34

I would also be wondering what they had been saying behind my back for them to have this reaction when I arrived back at my home.

holidayhelpneeded1 · 12/07/2026 12:41

Well they have a week to sort hosting so at least you dont have to worry about next time...unless this is your attempt at a drag out to a third thread?

No need for that twatty remark.

Don’t worry, when this thread is full that will be that, people have been clear enough.

@Dinnertext have as many threads as you want, people are supporting you here 💐

Imadelight · 12/07/2026 12:48

Having read all of your posts, I can't decide who's worse; your "friend" (utter bitch) or your "DH" who clearly has no loyalty to you whatsoever. His desire to host again is deliberately spiteful.

I hate them both.

TheWickerWoman · 12/07/2026 12:49

Why does she always insist it’s at your house anyway? Any normal person would have taken that on the chin and just done it at their own house.

Honestly, is this incident with your husband a shocking one off or if you give it some thought, is it the tip of the iceberg?

Forget about your friend for now, just think about him.

Absolutely start another thread after this if you want to OP. A lot of people here are outraged on your behalf at the way you’ve been treated and are keen to support you

So if it is useful for you please do start another thread to get support

Ignore the odd one piping up about attention seeking. They always will unfortunately

You can always leave and close the door behind you .

She can have as many threads as she wants. If you don’t like reading them then go find some other stuff to read.

as annoyed as I am for you at your friend. I think it’s your husbands behaviour that’s more worrying and hurtful

SnapAndFartAllDayLong · 12/07/2026 13:09

Sorry OP but you've been a right mug in this situation! There's no way I'd allow her in my house and I also wouldn't put up with a "D" H disrespecting my wishes also!

Agreed.

murasaki · 12/07/2026 13:19

Have you spoken to him about his rudeness and Wednesday's planned hosting, @Dinnertext ?

I would also have been playing loud jungle music from early this morning.

Thank you. I see it a lot on here where if someone doesn’t engage a ‘DSHL’ for their mythical free half hour at the first indiscretion, they become rather pointed at the OP.

I appreciate the supportive replies and will start another thread if needed.

We have had a chat, he’s unsurprisingly hungover so it wasn’t the most productive one but I got my point across. He apologised for the chanting and said it was high spirits as England had scored a few minutes before and wasn’t meant to offend me.

He says him hosting them again if we get through keeps things simple meaning we don’t need to travel/worry about taxi’s etc and he can watch from the comfort of his own sofa. He also said their TV isn’t the biggest.

Bit that's still totally disregarding your feelings @Dinnertext. It's all about their convenience.

Him (you!) hosting them again rides roughshod over your feelings. Nope.

SunnyRedSnail · 12/07/2026 13:32

@Dinnertext I don't understand what the issue was here.

Quite frankly I would have found it really funny if I found out my cooking had given someone the squits! 💩

And then if they offered to bring a take away instead at their expense then hell yes!!!

I feel you have made a massive mountain out of a mole hill and cut off your nose to spite your face due to being too stubborn to see the funny side. You could have had a fun night with footy and a take away.

Did you say having your wife not talking to you for weeks because you’ve stood back as you get insulted and instead of supporting you invited them over and mocked you is much easier is it? How nice for you. You must enjoy my conversation as much as she enjoyed my food. You can all fuck right off.
