“All the trimmings” - to find this quite vile?

Penelopefly · 02/07/2026 20:58

I’m away with my boyfriend at the weekend. In the course of messaging about our respective days, I’ve mentioned I am starting to pack. He said ‘remember some nice lingerie with all the trimmings’. I queried what trimmings meant - he clarified stockings and suspenders.

I feel like a piece of meat!

I seem to be unusual in not taking exception to his wording. What I have an issue with is him not being happy enough with OP’s naked body. In my friendship group sexy lingerie is seen as a bit of spice to rekindle (is that the word I mean?) interest. Added spice iyswim.

HumberSquid · 03/07/2026 22:11

Your boyfriend sees you as a sexual being, poor you! Better get that notion crushed straight off.

anon666 · 03/07/2026 22:12

The 1980s called. They want Bernard Manning back. 🤢

Where did you find this dinosaur? I presume he's over 50?

blueshoes · 03/07/2026 22:13

OP, does he want you to have a beard?

Wildefish · 03/07/2026 22:18

Jane379 · 03/07/2026 18:50

'I'm my own woman' - you mean you like wearing them yourself? That's different...

The issue is that he has no idea if OP likes them and he's just telling her what to wear. It's not an issue that he fancies her or wants her to dress up. It's the lack of consideration..

You can have a lot of fun with sex and still not like being told what to wear, not asked about what you both might like. There's nothing fun about just being told to wear something.

I’m my own women means I’ll not do something I don’t want to, to please a man. However the amount of this vile etc is ridiculous. He didn’t tell her, he asked her.

I think he's learning that quite quickly.

I dare you to pack Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and parsnips. Those are trimmings in my book!

Yes that’s where my mind went.

I think he's learning that quite quickly.

If someone gave me a shopping list of sexy stuff to bring without a reciprocal list of turn ons, Id be feeling like a mail order girlfriend. It would bring on a heave of ‘oh, now I have to go do this”. Fuck no, life’s too short.

outerspacepotato · 03/07/2026 22:44

He just told you to bring lingerie, specifically with garter belt and stockings like you're his weekend gf order.

Want fries with that, asshole?

I wouldn't be going.

PhaedraTwo · 03/07/2026 12:31

It's nothing to do with liking or not liking sex-it's about being compared to a joint of meat.

Edited

I think a joint of meat would be more fun.

Anna20MFG · 03/07/2026 23:17

Can I ask if this is a particularly British attitude to sex and lingerie? I am not British. I adore wearing lingerie that makes me look and feel wonderful and I know the sort of that thing that suits me and put time and effort into sourcing the right thing. My boyfriend is also not British. Maybe relevant as I am asking about cultural things that we are Latin American. His pleasure in my body/lingerie is lovely and definitely turns me on to see it, but he would love me in anything! He also loves the fact that I am an independent woman, have outspoken views, a high powered career etc I get that everyone is different and this request should be seen in the context of the whole relationship though.

Men talking about women as if they're food is deeply unsexy. Would you like to be talked about that way?
You rarely hear women talking about men in that way. (Or comparing them to cars, that's another of the worse comparisons I've come across)

Edited

It wouldn’t bother me in the slightest

No this is simply just a mumsnet view, no one I know in real life wouldn’t react this way including my 80yo grandmother

ForeverTheOptomist · 03/07/2026 23:30

Yuck.

JillyComeLately · 03/07/2026 23:35

Minime22 · 03/07/2026 20:32

I wore them in the 80s/90s and shock horror may have donned crotch less knickers too for added spice

Pass the smelling salts quick, this is Mumsnet FFS. 😬

Honestly, this. It's like a parallel universe here sometimes.

I don't know what this says about me, but my partner saying this to me would probably get me going a bit!

I'm not British. But I don't appreciate a man telling me to wear something like he's ordering a damn burger with ketchup at MickeyDees.

Luvnhugs · 04/07/2026 00:08

I'm neutral on this one with no strong opinion. It did cross my mind if the OP would have felt better if he'd said bring your warm undies it's still cold at night 😂

Sorry, but this comment made me giggle - a 'Titanic painting' moment with couple of strategically placed Yorkshire puds & a parsnip for when he comes in 'brandishing the roses & champagne'..... have you been together long? If so, then just tell him how it made you feel - if not long, & you think he is worth it - again have that conversation - is he young or old enough to think that this was romantic / appropriate? (BTW - I have nothing against stockings etc, but wouldn't take kindly to being told to wear them).
Oooh, now I want to suggest those bandage type surgical stockings & Charlie Chaplin suspenders..... (& I also fancy some roast potatoes). Have a good weekend, however it works out, & please update?? x

The women on here are insane tbh. I got called a whore for suggesting that some women like it and that it’s totally okay for people to have different sexual preferences. Makes me wonder if all these women hate their saggy bodies and their husbands never get anyway (unless they’re single ofc)

Seriously what is wrong with a woman wanting to impress her partner in bed??

Why did you say saggy?

JillyComeLately · 04/07/2026 01:01

JoaNiic · 04/07/2026 00:55

Why did you say saggy?

Some people, men AND women, do have saggy bodies.
Fact.
