AIBU to think 2 cups of tea is not high intake?

As part of a health study I had to record my fluid consumption in ml for a day and state what the fluid was.

Over a course of a day (6am-10pm) I drank 2750ml.
This was made up of:
2x330ml of tea
1x330ml of green tea
1750ml of water

The tea was drank in the morning, the green tea in the afternoon and the water over the course of the whole day.

It was noted - “the patient has a high intake of tea”

Issues that arose to this study have ruled out anything to do with fluid consumption so no further action required.

But it’s got me questioning my tea intake - I didn’t think I drank a lot of tea.

AIBU - 2 cups of tea is high intake
YANBU - that is surprising to me I’d say more than 2 is high intake

I don't think 3 cups of tea a day is that much (green tea is 'tea' as well) but I was told by my GP to limit my caffeine intake to no more than 2 cups of tea or coffee a day. This was in relation to blood pressure and kidney function as tea and coffee are mild diuretics.

Kim5678 · 27/06/2026 06:56

I don’t think it’s a high intake 🤔. Maybe it means high compared to anything else as it’s the only fluid you have other than water, if they are calculating it that way. Or perhaps I just don’t know the “recommended” intake!

ClayPotaLot · 27/06/2026 07:30

You've listed 3 teas, not 2. Green tea is tea too. Has caffeine in it, though not normally as much as black unless matcha.

It doesn't sound like a huge amount to me, whether it's 2 or 3.

catslovehairties · 27/06/2026 07:35

Well, you had three cups of tea, not two, but it’s still not a high intake.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 27/06/2026 09:45

I’m another one on about ten cups a day…

FFSItsTooHot · 28/06/2026 17:57

2 cups of tea a day a high tea intake? Blimey. I would say that anything under 6 cups of tea per day is not a massive amount.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/06/2026 18:01

Assessed by a human or an AI from a US company that was trained upon data from Mormons so any consumption of tea is unusual?

Tollington · 28/06/2026 18:05

I’m on my second cup of tea by 8:30am!

johnd2 · 28/06/2026 18:08

That will be high in the context of whatever the study is looking at, rather than it being a personal judgement on you or a suggestion that your intake is excessive in any way.

It will be a confirmation marker so that when they are glancing over the figures firstly they don't misread and secondly they don't suspect it's a typo or mistake.

In my case, if my eyes are open then I'm drinking tea, although I do use decaf for that reason.i wouldn't feel offended by that being described as high as when I'm on holiday shares in tea companies go down 😂

Daftypants · 28/06/2026 18:08

What nonsense lol 😂 I’m off to make myself a nice green tea now .
I have quite a bit of water each day plus 2 coffees + 2 redbush teas , + 1 camomile tea always .
Some days I will make green tea instead of redbush tea

Devilsmommy · 27/06/2026 02:34

Well I drink 25-30 tea and coffees a day so 2 is nothing imo 😂

How has no one questioned this yet?!

First, your vote explanation is misleading. Why are you not including the green tea in your "tea" count? Rather than "two cups" you are drinking virtually a litre of tea each day (though that still doesn’t seem like a huge amount to me).

Secondly, 330ml is not a normal "cup of tea". I had to measure my liquid intake for a couple of days and discovered that a normal coffee mug contains about 250ml. 330ml (the equivalent of over half a pint) would be a extremely large "cup".

But, assuming the OP is using a tea bag, isn't it the same amount of tea, just more dilute?

Adding that I usually have two cups of breakfast tea and one of green tea or matcha per day.

😂😂😂 I don't drink water or juice or pop so I live on tea and coffees 😁

Cuntydumpty · 28/06/2026 18:12

That would be about 5-6 standard size cups of tea. I’d say that’s a high tea intake if you were comparing against the population as a whole. Doesn’t mean it’s an issue though. It’s not crack

Waitingfordoggo · 28/06/2026 18:13

That’s amateur. Dread to think what they’d make of my consumption.

TheMadGardener · 28/06/2026 18:14

2 cups a day sounds low to me. I have 1 with breakfast, 1 in a thermal cup I sip from all morning while teaching, 1 made at lunchtime which I sip from all afternoon while teaching, 1 when I get home, 1 with dinner and maybe another one late in the evening. So 5 or 6 on work days. Similar number on weekends, though I make coffee on weekend mornings.

Newyearawaits · 28/06/2026 18:18

I drink between 6-8 cups a day on average

HaveCreditWillShop · 28/06/2026 18:18

You are actually having 3 cups of tea. Green tea is still tea it’s just processed differently. I don’t think 3 cups is a lot though!

weareallcats · 28/06/2026 18:18

2 or 3 teas is nothing! I know people who
drink it constantly, all day long. I have 3 cups of green tea a day (back to back in the morning) but only use one teabag (leave it in the mug and just top up the water). Is that 1 or 3?

LakieLady · 28/06/2026 18:18

I'd say it's low. I reckon I drink around a dozen half-pint mugs of tea a day, although I've never actually counted.

pouletvous · 28/06/2026 18:20

330ml ??? That’s a big ol mug

Summerunlover · 28/06/2026 18:21

I have one a day in the morning. So I think 2 is a lot but then my husband drinks like a million coffees a day.

bittertwisted · 28/06/2026 18:24

Nobody in Ireland would be alive if this is excessive ☕️☕️
