WIBU to work from home to go to the beach?

peachyhead · 25/06/2026 13:14

I live near the beach. Usually can't wfh but occasionally I can e.g. if I am getting work done at home or have an appointment. Would it be unreasonable to ask to wfh for the day tomorrow so I can go to the beach at lunchtime? I might stay out a little longer but will have my phone/laptop with me.

What I have just told you is what I said to my boss, didn’t realise I needed to share verbatim.

ridiculous

you said that you told your employer “I have an appointment”. You literally explicitly told us that.

Then… you changed it to you “asked your employer to WFH so you could do some bits around the house**

it’s farcical

So HQ deleted them.

Not surprised

Hope your mind is at ease now this pressing question has been dealt with. I hadn’t noticed any deletions nor am I bothered by them. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Is it really affecting you that much. I’m very sorry I’ve upset you.

No I don’t suppose you are bothered when you abuse / name call!

I haven’t called anyone any names. I queried a poster’s reading comprehension skills as they kept repeatedly asking the same question. I have been called names on here lol.

and given you’re not averse to telling “white lies” I’m inclined to think… the posts were pretty damn nasty!

BBW53 · 28/06/2026 15:44

What would happen if your employer found out? If they don’t care then go for it; if they are likely to make a fuss then don’t do it. Only you know if it is appropriate or not. I know someone who got fired for working from the Caribbean when he was ‘working from home’.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 28/06/2026 15:48

Don’t see an issue with going on your lunch break as long as you get your required hours in, get what you need to done and are available the hours you need to be

Where did I get caught out? I’ve explained on multiple occasions what happened.

Turned out they didn’t care. I wasn’t sure about asking as it’s not something I’ve done often. I’ve probably WFH 3 times in the 5 years I’ve been there, the other two times when I had genuine appointments/work being done at home.

Did you actually see any instances of me being pretty damn nasty, name calling, or being abusive? I’d love some examples.

If you often work outside set hours and get everything done as you say then dont worry about it. Swings and roundabouts. Go for it!

Gosh this is getting very boring. I never said I had asked already before starting the thread. After seeing several comments confirming this isn’t such a bad thing I asked to wfh, I was just vague about the reason, and it was approved. When I was catching up with my boss that afternoon she asked how my WFH day had been and I told her, I also said I had gone for a swim at lunch. Not quite the gotcha moment you thought.

It kind of is, it reads rather clearly actually.

It's pretty obvious you requested them to get deleted, so you could then pretend they were offensive and name calling!! Your weird witch hunt on Op and her lunch break is baffling, but quite amusing.

No idea what's been deleted but MNHQ would only have deleted a reported post which breached the guidelines. You can't report something on a whim in order to pretend it was offensive later.

But you can delete something that somehow breaks the talk guidelines and then lie about the content.

like the majority of posters, we’ve not exactly
