Or is it just me? I find that men, as nice as they can be, are just a little bit shit.

And even if they’re not shit, they’re just not as good as the woman they’re with or a woman of similar age and circumstance.

I see it everywhere. My parents. Friends’ relationships. Colleagues. The sense of entitlement, putting themselves first, not being as organised, not thinking ahead in the same way, letting their mood affect everyone around them…. I am not saying women are not like this, of course they can be. But it’s rare it’s to the extent of men.

Maybe it is just me. I’m old and cynical these days.

Men have created, built and maintain all of society everything we have is almost exclusively down to them.

We are privileged, respected and given preferential treatment.

If you want to so a society where men don't do this go to Afghanistan

The opinion you describe is why so many women are single they are completely overvaluing themselves and don't even have the skills their mother's and grandmother's had

araiwa · 20/06/2026 16:36

Yeah

All those female prime ministers, presidents, Nobel Prize winners, CEO's, billionaiires totally outshining the men

I'm so bored of these crap threads

@araiwa that’s my point thought. It’s not the labels and ‘achievements.’ It’s the positive character traits… nowhere close to those that women have.

@Musney I’m not talking about ‘achievements.’ Especially when those achievements are a result of a patriarchal structure in which women’s wings were clipped (to put it lightly).

I am referring to strength of character and other positive characteristics that women seem to have in abundance but men are severely lacking

@Indianajet I think the fact women are undervalued and men ‘overvalued’ is the thing that’s wearing thin, personally

Daft generalisations.

JoyousOpalLemur · 20/06/2026 17:01

Most scientific discoveries were done by men

It depends what you're measuring. Most men I know are more physically strong than me. The men I know are protective of women and children. They're working hard to contribute financially. Some are very funny, some really calm under pressure. Most aren't getting involved in irrelevant drama, arguments and bitching about others.

6ate9 · 20/06/2026 17:04

It’s nearly all men who fight on the frontline.

SerenaCat93 · 20/06/2026 17:28

All of the best people I know are men.

Of all the people I have known only three of the are truly pure of heart and completely selfless. All three are men. I'm privileged to have them in my life and I am beyond blessed that one of them is my husband.

6ate9 · 20/06/2026 17:36

The most dangerous jobs are nearly all done by men. They make up the vast majority of workplace fatalities, and men are statistically up to 10 times more likely than women to be killed at work.

Good thing you added 'personally' at the end because it's you...and a few mners, but not the mindset of the majority of women in real life.

Why even bother to compare...without even criteria...unless to feel better putting down men.

It's just toxic.

Feelblue · 20/06/2026 17:47

I don’t think either sex is “better” than the other. Man as a whole are physically stronger and certainly commit more crime including sex crimes. But they are also the most likely to be police, firefighters and soldiers as well.

Women have not been given the same opportunities in western culture in sciences etc so it is unsurprising that there aren’t as many women winning Nobel prizes

Equally I don’t think once they get power that women are better or more ethical.

Thatcher she was a great Prime Minister, definitely didn't impoverish millions of people and leave half the country to rot, great example yeah

Justine Ardain, the lady with the coke habit who ran away when it got tough another great example alright

The female billionaires another shining example, all the top ones have the money because their husbands earned it

Great role examples, thank you for proving even more so our dependency on men

Icanseeasquirrel · 20/06/2026 21:39

Men are more extreme. Extremely brilliant and extremely shit. Most of the absolute geniuses and change makers and most of the criminals. More selfishness is required to get ahead. Can’t progress with lots of selfless and reasonable people. You need the bold.

It’s a bit of a pointless discussion really except to agree that your average woman is more likely to be all round more competent and less risky. Men and woman aren’t better or worse than each other. They’re just different. I love many men but I’m glad I don’t have to have one in my life any more!

Spot the misandrist.

Perhaps consider widening your experience and you’ll realise that you’re talking utter bs.

FFOXGLOVE · 20/06/2026 23:53

You probably get on better with women and that’s why you’re seeing things like this.

I tend to get on better with men and I think comparing so generally is a bit pointless.

But it is annoying when our society generally values things like physical strength, inventions, manual labour bla bla when women had limited education etc - it’s like some people have never cracked a book ffs! All the nurturing roles that women typically occupy hold less value in most people’s minds precisely because more women do them.

BettyJoanPerske · 20/06/2026 23:59

Not this again. No, I don't. If anything, the men in my life are better than the women, but I don't think that means men are better overall. Mumsnetters seem to be incredibly unfortunate in the males they encounter.

I take your point a bit about the patriarchal structure (although even that is overstated) but what makes you say that women have better character traits than men? Did you just make that up?

This entire thread is absolutely nuts. Women make everything better. They knit together the threads of life that make it worthwhile. Men do not. Men's achievements are built on the backs of women's labour. Men rape and murder at a ludicrously higher rate than women do. Pull yourself together Mumsnet. Women are builders and fighters. They're courageous and insightful, hard working and empathetic. Women don't have the accolades and prestige because we are oppressed - yes, we are still oppressed, because we live in a patriarchy. We need to build each other up, protect each other, and champion female solidarity. Come the fuck on.
