AIBU to conclude women pretty much always outshine men overall?

Or is it just me? I find that men, as nice as they can be, are just a little bit shit.

And even if they’re not shit, they’re just not as good as the woman they’re with or a woman of similar age and circumstance.

I see it everywhere. My parents. Friends’ relationships. Colleagues. The sense of entitlement, putting themselves first, not being as organised, not thinking ahead in the same way, letting their mood affect everyone around them…. I am not saying women are not like this, of course they can be. But it’s rare it’s to the extent of men.

Maybe it is just me. I’m old and cynical these days.

So true!!

Without men doing the jobs that most woman don’t want, like working on oil rigs or refuse collectors, what would happen?

But almost all scientific discoveries by women were claimed by male co-researchers, spouses etc.

This may be true but unless you're claiming that it was case for the majority of discoveries, it doesn't move the argument anywhere.

Yes, I don’t think anyone is suggesting that men haven’t had advantages historically in terms of the ability to make scientific discoveries.

But it doesn’t follow that “women are better than men”.

If I started a thread saying i thought white peoples were better than black people, and justify this because that supposedly happened to be my lived experience, the thread would be taken down in minutes. I can’t see how this is any different…

I suppose someone might respond by saying “it’s different because it’s true”, but that would just be your opinion, and I could make the same response regarding my claim that white people are better than black people (which to be completely clear, I don’t believe and have just used for purposes of illustration).

Justveryveryangry · 21/06/2026 11:56

Nothing good ever comes of denigrating a whole class of people for possessing physical characteristics or having an ethnic background which they cannot control.

The weird thing is, those that have these misandrist views are often the most vocal opponents to other forms of prejudice based on race or ability. The irony is lost on them.

Men have created, built and maintain all of society everything we have is almost exclusively down to them.

Yet, it is women who literally build the bodies of men.

Two can play at gender essentialist scorekeeping; it's a simple and rather tiresome and ridiculous game, when the practical reality is that life is full of nuanced interdependence.

Not without a man's sperm we dont. Just saying.

That's simply not true.

There have been a couple of famous cases like this, ie Rosalind Franklin (who played an important role in Watson and Crick's DNA breakthrough but this wasn't credited until after she died) and Jocelyn Bell Burnell (she and her lecturer discovered pulsars together but he got all the credit because he was the teacher), but in the vast majority of scientific breakthroughs made by women, the women have been recognised, ie Marie Curie, Barbara McClintock, Dorothy Hodgkin, Ada Yonath, Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, Elizabeth Blackburn, Carol Greider, May-Britt Moser, Mary Anning, Caroline Herschel and Emmy Noether.

@araiwa that’s my point thought. It’s not the labels and ‘achievements.’ It’s the positive character traits… nowhere close to those that women have.

The worst people I know are women

Same. Plus even if that wasn't true, it is ridiculous to say that men don't have as many positive traits as women.

Correct. This supports my point that Two can play at gender essentialist scorekeeping; it's a simple and rather tiresome and ridiculous game, when the practical reality is that life is full of nuanced interdependence.

mediocre men get ahead much more easily than brilliant women in the workplace - lots of evidence to back that up. But having had dinner last night with 4 brilliant intelligent and kind men- the only ones I’ll let in my life - I can’t agree with the statement as a matter of course

smallglassbottle · 21/06/2026 13:50

Men can be okay, but seem to need a support structure around them in order to function. The only people I've ever observed just getting on with it - working, doing the childcare, organising, running the house, maintaining things - are women. I've never seen or known a man do all of these things and just get on with it.

The men in my life are somewhat lazy and avoidant in the house and the house and garden would resemble the council tip if it wasn't for me. They have strengths and abilities, but it's me that keeps things together and running properly.

Women take more sick leave than men.

Women experience higher levels of autoimmune conditions and problems related to reproductive activities.

FudgeFudy · 21/06/2026 15:06

Whenever I’m struggling with a big suitcase up the stairs, it is always - ALWAYS - another woman who offers to help me with it. Never a man. In fact, I can be almost certain that a woman will offer to help at some point during my journey.
I’m sure some will say “oh men are just afraid to ask in case you take it the wrong way” but come on!

Well...just look at some of the replies on this thread and you might start to understand why. For a fair few women it seems that men simply cannot do anything right. So you can't really blame a man for not wanting to get involved; they're probably thinking why risk being on the receiving end of a Millie Tant-style rant about how women are strong independent people that don't need a man's help and that by offering to carry your suitcase they are complicit in the ongoing subjugation of wimminfolk, or being accused of only wanting to help as a prelude to getting in your knickers, because that's what all men are like. In other words posting divisive shit then decrying the divide.

Women take more sick leave than men.

That makes me laugh. I work in a pretty much 50/50 place and it's the men who have a lot of sick leave. In the last 2 years we had 3 on long term sickness - none of the women did. It's the men who are sick a few days before or after their AL. It's men who moan about picking up the extra workload while women just get on with it. I know it's anecdotal but then....

6ate9 · 22/06/2026 06:55

@RubyPowderPuff In most western countries women take more sick leave than men. This is due to a combination of biological, social, and occupational factors. Women are twice as likely as men to take time off work for stress, anxiety, and depression.

Men are significantly more likely to die by suicide than women. Globally and locally, men account for about three-quarters of all suicide deaths.

I’ve stated this example on threads before but it bears repeating.

3 years ago I was taken to hospital with severe and sudden stomach pain. For many hours I lay in a bed in agony, literal agony, while two female doctors dithered about and came to
no conclusions. Eventually, they called a male consultant. He diagnosed the issue within 10 minutes of entering the room and sent me down for surgery. Had he not done that, there’s a good chance I wouldn’t be here to type this; he literally saved my life. He acted, while two women dithered.

I wouldn’t say the women outshined the man that day.

This isn’t to say there aren’t amazing female doctors and other professionals in all walks of life. However, if you’ve started another tedious thread which seeks to characterise all men as shit and all women as faultless angels, then you’re a man-hater, a bigot, and as bad as the incels who post on other forums about how awful women are.

This entire thread is absolutely nuts. Women make everything better. They knit together the threads of life that make it worthwhile. Men do not. Men's achievements are built on the backs of women's labour. Men rape and murder at a ludicrously higher rate than women do. Pull yourself together Mumsnet. Women are builders and fighters. They're courageous and insightful, hard working and empathetic. Women don't have the accolades and prestige because we are oppressed - yes, we are still oppressed, because we live in a patriarchy. We need to build each other up, protect each other, and champion female solidarity. Come the fuck on.

"Women are builders and fighters. They're courageous and insightful, hard working and empathetic."

Please stop peddling lies, we don't build or fight, there's no courage in being first off the boat and letting everyone else die. We work 20% less then men and in the least physical jobs

We can't have agency and be oppressed at the same time. Men and women are good at different things but society is much much enhanced by men

How do you move through life like this? If you are a woman, this is truly sad, that you can't see what we are capable of, and what we achieve daily. You should get your heavily internalised misogyny looked it. It will be eating you up. The women around you are brilliant and they're holding everything together. Open your eyes.

This is what is wrong with society- everyone trying to prove the group they belong to are better. I know a lot of great men and women
