Things you hate or find overrated in hot weather

. parents draping sheets over their DC in their pushchairs. It overheats the area

. BBQs especially when used too much lighter fluid. As it makes food taste of that. Plus need to BBQ about four meals worth of meat. if you did eat inside

. Going to crowded beaches. Struggle to park, queues for everything.

Yours?

There are a lot of things I do like about hot weather, but I’ll add alcohol to your list (except late in the evening when it’s cooled down). Day drinking when it’s hot is a recipe for a pounding headache.

I pretty much hate everything about hot weather. Give me a cold crisp day where I can see my breath!

Ditto.
It proper knocks the wind out of my sails and I find doing anything at all a bloody chore.

Was just about to say this.

People suddenly think clothing is optional. I don't want to see T&A from anyone, thanks. Loud music in gardens. I don't like your shitty music and I don't like it at whatever decibel level makes it crack my ears open.

Having to put a full uniform and socks on and going to work

BellaBobandBernietoo · Yesterday 11:12

I find boiling hot UK summer days overrated in general. I can't function in this weather.

I don't enjoy seeing men without tops on, hate seeing people's gnarly old feet in sandals, hot tubs are overrated - it's like sitting in a bath with your mates but outside, with drinks.

And I live by the coast, I just don't understand the mentality of racing to the coast on a boiling hot day, sitting in traffic getting there and coming back and roasting yourself on sand with no shade. Each to their own but totally overrated imo.

Being in a classroom with 32 teenagers all complaining about the heat because windows only open a fraction.

GasPanic · Yesterday 11:16

During hot weather I dislike people moaning endlessly about how hot they are.

Yes. I miss winter.

People practically crossing the street to point out that at 8.5 months pregnant I'm probably not enjoying the heat 🤪 It was hailing last week, it's not like it's been prolonged agony. I'm enjoying the warmth 🥰

However I did discover a good cooling trick this week. Dampen a lightweight cloth (muslin blankets are great) and use on the back of your neck/over legs etc, drape over small children (don't block the buggy as someone said). When it heats up give it a shake and it's instantly cool again! Magic.

Can’t think of much positives about temps over 24! 21/22 with gentle breeze is my sweet spot. It’s 26 in London now and I’m sitting here in just a long t shirt and I’m too hot. It saps the energy out of me and if upper 20s not leaving the house - I’ll stay inside with the fan on. Next week predicted to be 33 for a couple days - ugh.
But sunbathing or just sitting in the sun - can’t stand it.

Stepmum900 · Yesterday 11:26

People moaning about how hot it is. You’ll never hear me complain I’m too hot, I love it!

People whibging about it

theruffles · Yesterday 11:38

Beer gardens.
The beach.
Taking the bus home from work when it's packed and sweaty.
Putting suncream on the DC (it's always done and topped up throughout the day, but I hate the fight of having to put it on them)
People covering prams with a muslin to shade a baby when it's possible to get suitable sun covers that are much safer

WoollyHeadedMammoth · Yesterday 11:44

My cats playing Dr. Livingstone in the deep underbrush all day then bringing ticks and god knows what else into the house. (I bet that they do not even consider whether they are being unreasonable, either!)

Sunbathing.

I spend less time on MN when it’s hot. Everyone faints and dies and can’t cope if it’s above 22.

Haha exactly this. I love the hot weather. It is week long bursts yet people of mn can’t cope. I don’t know anyone in rl who doesn’t love it.

MrsPapillon · Yesterday 11:54

Eating outside and being attacked by wasps and midges. I’d rather just eat inside.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · Yesterday 11:56

Sitting outside to eat lunch at a pub. It's humid, uncomfortable and I spend the entire time squinting because there's never enough shade.

Hard disagree. Sorry.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · Yesterday 11:59

Putting suncream on, myself and my children.
i can’t stand how it feels, can’t stand the arguments about putting it on, and im always super alert of what I lean on after as I’ve see what it can do to car paint work, let alone anything else!

also, as someone who goes to the beach in all sorts of weather, suddenly being unable to park, or get anywhere near the beach as it’s flooded with people who supposedly only got introduced to what a car is 15 minutes before they set off, really, really winds me up.
