Things you hate or find overrated in hot weather

. parents draping sheets over their DC in their pushchairs. It overheats the area

. BBQs especially when used too much lighter fluid. As it makes food taste of that. Plus need to BBQ about four meals worth of meat. if you did eat inside

. Going to crowded beaches. Struggle to park, queues for everything.

Yours?

My husband.. Moan moan moan! He’s to hot apparently. It’s getting on my nerves, it’s not even that hot and considering we only get about 2 days of sunshine a year he needs to stop with the winging.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 21/06/2026 19:13

I love the heat despite being fair skinned/don’t tan.

I really dislike fans. They raise the temperature (but only by half a degree or so) and I can’t get that out of my head. Plus they annoy me - don’t like the sensation or my hair blown around.

everything else I love, I just wished I wasn’t 3+ hours from the coast.

Squirrelsnut · 21/06/2026 19:20

I associate being hot with being anxious/stressed, so very hot days can really be extremely draining.

Yes, I think there will be some tired, hot and grumpy children this week.

We get far more than two days of sunshine and it’s increasing!

I don't get the appeal of sitting directly in the sun. I just find it unpleasant and my skin starts to feel prickly, like I can feel the damage happening!
I'm alright in the shade though. Yesterday I took myself off to a public garden for a picnic and was quiet happy sitting in the shade under a tree.

ThelastRolo20 · 21/06/2026 21:21

Parenting small children. It's horrid as you're never sitting still so sweating from dawn, I also hate the feel of sun cream and making sure it's covered them enough, can't spend too long outside with them (the 4 year old understands staying in the shade, the 1 year old doesn't). And don't get me started on getting them to sleep.

I'll enjoy it again in a few years.... But delighted some people are going to enjoy it!

iloveanearlynight · 24/06/2026 14:37

Dicks telling you to run cold water over your wrists.. riiiiiiiiight. As if that makes the slightest difference to your whole body. It cools your wrist for about 3 seconds.

SourdoughSally · 24/06/2026 14:41

Dogs yapping all bloody day in the garden.

Netcurtainnelly · 24/06/2026 14:44

Moaning . Peope telling people to drink and keep our the sun etc. it's so patronising as if we dont know by now.

People wearing jeans heavy shoes etc. Don't you own any shorts or summer skirts etc. It's looks odd. Dress for the weather.😂

I see this on mumsnet a lot. Posters who like to hide themselves in jeans and shapeless jumpers because they think that wearing lightweight summer clothes makes them look fatter.

No it doesn't. They look the same but more comfortable.

corblimeygvnr · 25/06/2026 16:17

Listening to people parenting small children 😂 who need to be in the shade or in the cool sleeping 😂 oh and yes the fucking dogs 🙄

corblimeygvnr · 25/06/2026 16:18

Supermarkets who are closing down their chill and frozen freezers just now . I'm looking at you Sainsbury and Tesco. Why can you not operate normally when it's hot ?? 🤷‍♀️

ArabellaWeird · 25/06/2026 16:18

Work.

I find it more relaxing, suns out, window open , fan on. Laid back

FudgeFudy · 25/06/2026 16:32

Bit of a niche one, but people saying 'It said 45 degrees in my car!!!'. Yes if you put a thermometer in a metal box in direct sunlight it will indeed read materially higher than the ambient temperature measured in the shade. So fucking what?

hostleg · 20/06/2026 14:34

There is an ice cream van that goes around where I live and seen it drive past kids and doesn’t stop. Then drives around roads without stopping.

What is the point in that

They're a cover for money laundering. 😅

It's not IN the car though. It shows the outside temperature.

Clearly don't have to work in it, do you.

I’m a former supermarket assistant.
I will explain why chillers and freezers are out of action in lots of UK supermarkets.

. Open chillers get extreme temperatures on them.
. The chillers and freezers have smaller compressors than Europe
. The compressors, fans and filters require frequent maintenance. Supermarkets don’t do this

In my store I worked at the car park is on the roof with 2 lifts from the car park to inside the store. Every time the lifts open in the store, hot air came in. The nearest chiller from the lifts got the first alarms. Then on the flip side, when it is winter, the freezing temperature came out of the lifts making us cold

If you have noticed if you go to supermarkets with doors to their chillers and freezers, you hardly see these being emptied due to the alarms going off. Aldi has them if the store has had a refit in 4 years

The supermarkets either remove the stock and put into a back chiller or a chiller trailer gets delivered. Or has a blind pulled down.

Bit rude, the freezers in other countries seem to cope just fine

Good explanation that makes my pist redundant...still think the pp was rude with the dense comment though

They sell drugs too. See the Ice Cream Wars in Glasgow.
