To be disappointed with how soft play handled this man

Playcomment · Today 15:59

I reported an inappropriate sexual comment made by another parent at a soft play area yesterday.

I was climbing down from one of the raised areas with my DS and didn’t realise he was climbing up. I said a polite sorry and he replied not to worry and that if he knew his £10 entry included him getting an arse in his face he would have visited months ago. I challenged him and then reported to staff.

The staff approached me 10/15 minutes later to say they’d spoken to him and he had admitted saying that but was ‘obviously joking’ and he relayed his apologies, so they considered the matter sorted.

Personally, I think he should have been asked to leave. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable and could have gone on to say similar to other parents present.

It seems you are in the minority…I’ll have to accept that making a facesitting comment in front of kids is perfectly normal next time I go 🙄

I do think it was inappropriate and I agree that reporting it was a good move, but he apologised and realised he shouldn’t have said it. I would only remove him if he did it again.

Mumandcarer80 · Today 17:38

Oh ffs is that it? 🤣🤣🤣It’s a joke he was just making light of an awkward situation. Be more aware of your surroundings in future.

StephensLass1977 · Today 17:38

Sorry op, I agree with pps, and I would have found it funny. I too thought it was going to be about something harmful to a child, which would of course need to be reported to the police. This, this is just a tame joke.

I hope you never watch Benny Hill! Or any 70s comedy!

I would have laughed. 😂

Fighting talk!

OP it's not funny or appropriate. I'm with you.

All the cool girls on this thread are unbelievable.

Agreed. Massively inappropriate, sleazy and creepy remark for a man to make towards a woman, one that he doesn't know so can't even pass it off as "banter" between mates - not that that would necessarily make it okay. Definitely not acceptable. Happy to be called a prude for my opinion. 🤷‍♀️

NeverCouldGetTheHangOfThursdays · Today 17:44

Whatever you do OP, don't ever go and work in a boozer! You'd have a fit of the vapours within half an hour 😂

I honestly would've laughed, and possibly told him at least he got his money's worth!😂

hairbearbunches · Today 17:44

Is it just me or is anyone else thinking Bridget Jones and fireman's pole?

Sorry OP, it is quite funny. On the scale of creepy men making ick comments, this bloke didn't even reach 1.

No, but I am now 🤣🤣

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · Today 17:45

It’s disgusting and I would have been creeped out. So many think it’s funny and acceptable though so you’ll just have to shrug it off x

Exactly. Just because some women are happy to / think it’s hilarious to be spoken to like extras in Carry On films, doesn’t mean that the rest of us think it’s funny. Nor does it give men the right to speak to those of us who dislike it, in this manner out in public spaces, when we just want to live our lives without the unwanted sexist commentary.

LuckyHazelFox · Today 17:47

FFS.

Oh for god sake give it over ! I would have laughed at this obvious joke. I thought this was going to be about some creepy man talking to kids. Why are people so bloody precious these days .

This. I would have laughed at that too. I'm sure a lot of women won't be happy until no one is allowed to speak in public in case it offends someone and we have to walk around looking serious all the time.

Brunchatstephanies · Today 17:52

You directed your arse to his face.

He just joked about the facts of the situation.

You feel how you feel, but personally I’d not be taking you too seriously.

itsgettingweird · Today 17:54

I’d have laughed.

but then I also have a dry sense of humour!

VIII · Today 17:55

I'm just pleased to read that most think you're unreasonable. It's nice to know that the majority of the population still has a sense of humour.

LuckyHazelFox · Today 17:57

You certainly gave the staff something to laugh about. You actually wanted him to be asked to leave. Embarrassing.

HortiGal · Today 17:58

I’m struggling with the scenario of an adult woman running over to tell tales to soft play staff, about a jokey comment.
They'll all be talking about the precious mummy now.

Referring to paying £10 to have a woman’s arse in his face alludes to, well…paying a stripper? Who else gets paid to put her arse in a man’s face? I don’t want random men in soft play comparing me to strippers.

Exactly! Or a prostituted woman. Commodifying and dehumanising. I don't care if that makes me uptight/uncool/a banterless harridan from the 70s.

It's a fucking soft play! Who's thinking about their cock in soft play? The shittest grossest men, that's who. His comment was absolutely not a compliment to her. I don't want to ease the path for grotesque men, I'm very happy to make them uncomfortable.

itsgettingweird · Today 18:02

How would you have felt if he’d reported you for putting your arse in his face?

Would you have felt it appropriate for you to be asked to leave?

Soft plays are always uncomfortably close range to complete strangers.

If getting an arse in the face is apparently not sexual at all then why was he saying he would have come sooner? What's there to enjoy about it if it's not sexual? It's very, very clearly a sexual comment and honestly all the women in here suggesting it's any different to face sitting have obviously just never heard of rimming.

I don’t think we need to escalate to rimming, do we? 😂

Obviously it’s a sexual joke. I’m saying it’s not necessarily a reference to a specific sexual act, since it was also a description of what happened.

I know right…I mean, we’re not even allowed to say the n-word anymore. It’s political correctness gone mad. Nobody’s allowed to say ANYTHING racist or sexist anymore. We’re forced to walk around being serious and can’t laugh anymore at the racist and sexist banter. What is the world coming to?

Crikey, definitely don’t escalate to RUNNING!

Kayakerpaddleboarderwalker · Today 18:04

I would have laughed. Most defintely would not have reported him. What the heck is the matter with people today. No sense of humour and complete and utter prudes. For goodness sake lighten up.
