Silly little things to make life better...

... so not hugely necessary. But say you eat a pizza at a restaurant and you can't quite finish it all. Rather than a full-sized pizza box, can you please give me a half-sized one that I can fit in my handbag please?*

*only applies to more mainstream restaurants, I know that kebab/chicken places will jam anything into a small polystyrene/single use plastic container.

Just a little thing to make the world turn more easily. Also although I get the kids' menu and the discount, can we all please order smaller portions if we wish? Ta!

I've heard that in Spain, people get paid 14 times a year. A monthly payment and then an extra payment just before Christmas and the summer.

Of course, people probably receive the same amount of money overall and if they want to use their money in a way that is different to conventional 12 monthly splits, they could probably set it up to work that way themselves although it's likely going to need a certain amount of slack in the budget at the beginning to get going with it and to have the excess at Chiristmas, you're going to have less during regular months. Plus 13 x 4 weekly could be difficult to manage if you're paying bills like mortgage and utilities monthly.

My company does this now. We usually get paid around 22nd December and then 26th January to even things out. It really helps.

mine doesn't - we get paid on the 24th Dec as apposed to 25th December now - it still feels like ages till 25th Jan
I would change monthly pay to every 2 weeks pay - so you get paid every two weeks regardless if a 5 week month or not. Plus you get a pay shortly after xmas mid Jan .

The world does not need more yappy pomeranians. They should forever remain as a silent but cute cartoon.

From a Pomeranian owner who needs ear defenders most of the day!

@Bedroomdilemmas113 I agree. Our elderly Pomeranian has alopecia so now no longer in possession of his one redeeming feature. He looks like something from a horror movie, but is now also deaf with failing eyesight so thankfully can’t hear/see his yapping triggers. Would never have another (in our defence we were given him, with no mention of his rather angry disposition)

I've not tried this myself, so I have no idea if it would work, but could you use WhatThreeWords to identify where your car is, and then follow the directions back to it?

I use that and it works

Friendly dogs on the tube always make my day, one actually leant on my legs for the whole of my journey once, it was absolute bliss

Friendly dogs* anywhere! Which is very un-Mumsnetty of me, I know.

*or Wagglies, as dds and I call them. A dd who recently ate at Jeremy Clarkson’s pub reported back that there were lots of lovely Wagglies!

I feel you. Mine is still scrumptious to look at but my god…I would not have another!!!

I was always on the look-out for the flex-free, silent hoover.
I've not got a rechargeable one so no bloody flex to struggle with. I'm just waiting for the silent version.

What standard would that be? Do you mean for security or should all websites offer the same user experience?

I think websites should be simple and functional. And not constantly 'upgraded'.

There's too much flashy whizzy bollocks going on that do nothing except provide an outlet for designers to show off and increase the computing power required/likelihood that it won't work properly.

Bras to be unpadded or padded. Ban all removable bra pads, they are my nemesis after every wash.

I would vote for this one. I keep meaning to sew them in but that would mean trying to find my sewing kit…

Also, my DCs hate cheese and onion crisps and even the “meaty” multi-packs of crisps have them in - an option without cheese and onion would suit us perfectly.

The ‘issue’ about being paid early in December and it having to last longer into January always makes me eyeroll.

People think November salary only has to last three weeks then whine about January.

But if you stick to your normal budget schedule, your November salary should last until one week after you have been paid early . Then your December salary would be used from the usual date until January’s salary is paid. So it’s no different from any other month.

I would like the lasagne-dish-makers and lasagne-sheet-makers to end their ancient feud. Everyone has suffered enough.

This is genius. We need the origin story to this feud, because it’s been going on too damn long for sure.

Anarchy99 · 03/06/2026 09:26

What this boils down to is everyone wanting the world to do things how they personally like them.

Bjorkdidit · 03/06/2026 09:27

Do away with multipacks all together. Keep multipack pricing, but have single bags of crisps where you can pick any 6 bags of crisps but pay the multipack price. Same for anything, drinks, canned food, etc. Let people buy the number of items they want and offer discounts for quantity, but less packaging.

Mourningmorningsleep · 03/06/2026 09:29

Mine already happened - train tickets becoming scannable QR codes. An under-appreciated highly functional upgrade on paper tickets or Southeastern's glitchy "the key".

I would like there to be an MN option to like a post or to reply to it underneath as you can with FB groups.

I get paid fortnightly and I love it as twice a year we fet three pay checks in the month. It feels more manageable that my old monthly payment.

Had this and loved it, it helped me so much budgeting wise. Now i am monthly and cant manage it - even though 10 years monthly pay now

NotMyRealAccount · 03/06/2026 09:34

The ability to adjust the characteristics of the cushioning in my running shoes from day to day using an app on my phone rather than needing owning multiple different pairs for easy runs, faster runs and races.

Ilovemyshed · 02/06/2026 23:09

For shops like M&S to have the larger shoes sizes higher and the smaller sizes lower.

I’ve never understood why they do this. Us size 8s are usually taller so we’ve got further to bend.

More fluffy cats and pomeranians! 😍

Everything’s better with cats! 🐈‍⬛

Katemax82 · 03/06/2026 09:43

My 7 year old autistic son won't poo on the toilet because he hates being undressed. I tried to find a onesie with a bum flap on Amazon but was met with a load of adult ones created for sexual purposes. So I would like a pair of child's pyjamas with a velcro bumflap so my son can poo and not get undressed (yes this not wanting to undress extends to baths and showers so they're very short)

I would say the same about the words sexism, ageism and Women's rights being eroded, being thrown around all the time on Mumsnet. Makes me absolutely insane.

Just the small things....

Edited

Men stopping butting in on women's important conversations, women should talk about the crap things that make our lives difficult that could so easily be better if behaved.

Bertiebiscuit · 03/06/2026 09:45

If men behaved

DD’s bralets have these. Drive me mad. I now stitch them in so they’re no longer removable

I feel it is the same with underwear. They need to put the larger sizes higher up and the small ones at the bottom. When your boobs are 40H bending down to rifle through is not easy.

Ferryl · 03/06/2026 09:53

I’d like someone to make bluebells that flowered all year round so that I could drive past the bluebell woods near me and see and appreciate them every day.
