Silly little things to make life better...

... so not hugely necessary. But say you eat a pizza at a restaurant and you can't quite finish it all. Rather than a full-sized pizza box, can you please give me a half-sized one that I can fit in my handbag please?*

*only applies to more mainstream restaurants, I know that kebab/chicken places will jam anything into a small polystyrene/single use plastic container.

Just a little thing to make the world turn more easily. Also although I get the kids' menu and the discount, can we all please order smaller portions if we wish? Ta!

Having a thermostatic bath tap that you can programme with the volume of water that you want dispensed and then turns itself off. If I'm being fussy, there might be a timer option and a remote option so I could either tell it to run me a bath for say, 6pm on a Friday or so I could just tell it to start running before I get home, like my hive heating app.

Edited

They already have these in Japan, seen it whilst doomscrolling YouTube. Maybe arrive here around 2050 🙄

All websites/apps operating to the same standard! I shouldn't have to be stressed out using your app, Asda!

On a similar note, shops that insist you use their apps for member benefits which will not work without wifi, but have no wifi in their own store, or a wifi connection that never works. Looking at you here M&S & Boots!

It bugs the shit out of me. There are plenty of others, but those two are huge companies so it pisses me right off that they make their in store experience so fucking annoying.

Free parking everywhere, not very silly but it would make everyone’s life easier.

For someone to sort out hotel conveyor belt toasters so that your toast is properly, ie medium browned toast from one pass, instead of pale and stale from one pass but sheets of carbon from two.

I thought it was only me ! I’ve even tried using tongs to make it teeter on the edge on the second go round but it didn’t work. 🙄

I once worked somewhere where we got paid every four weeks on a Friday, the first pay day was a bit of a shock (13 pay days) but once I got used to it the regular pattern was great.

I worked for years in a place that did this. Once a year, you get paid twice in one month. It's the same with DLA/PIP payments.

Tell me you don't work in hospitality without telling me you don't work in hospitality

My first thought is this would make your life easier but would make a whole load of other people's life much harder. Someone will have to decide how many full size and how many half size to order for their pizza place. The half size won't stack on the full size boxes so you would need twice as much storage space.

I would like the world to stop using words like privilege and racism at every freakin opportunity. It makes me absolutely insane to see these two words thrown around, constantly, with no rhyme or reason.

Just the small things.

Sounds about white.

Caramac045 · 03/06/2026 09:06

@MeganM3 if you can drill a couple of small holes in your kitchen bin it prevents a vacuum being formed That is what makes pulling the bag out so tricky.
On a similar note, when you empty your bin don’t just put one bin liner in. Put two in. If your first ( or second actually) bag splits then the other contains the mess.

Yes, it possibly would re-ignite some soul into high streets too. Where I live, people just go to retail parks as free parking !

JazbayGrapes · 03/06/2026 09:08

Shopping baskets should be placed at various locations around the shop floor rather than at the entrance. I only expected to grab 1-2 items, but turned out to be 10...

CurlewKate · 03/06/2026 09:09

Mumsnet to introduce a specific “Oh, purhlease!!” emoji.

Standard sizing for clothes across all retailers. I dont eant to have to try on or online order 3 different sizes each time.
And stop adding length to trousers legs. Im an average height and never had to take trousers up. Now they are so long im starting to buy short size.
.....unless im actually shrinking 🤔

I buy a petite and they can still be 3 or 4 inches too long in places like mint velvet or reiss. Ridiculous.

5 foot 4 is not petite!

If cafes would give you a glass of water along with your hot drink like they do in some European countries.

I often ask for one, and have never been refused.

One car parking app, and one style of car park pay machine.

To build on this.

I will register my details with 1 (one) car parking app, and find the G Spot of 1 (one) in person car park pay machine, and that is all my perimenopause can deal with.

Small city near me does this. Free parking for up to 2 hours. Means I can pop in for lunch and a quick shop/gallery visit when I probably wouldn't bother if I had to pay for parking, which I know doesn't make much sense.

also bring back the "laugh" reaction. 🙄I found this one in the emoji list though.

I would like payday in January to come a few days earlier. We always get paid very early in December, and it’s such a long wait until the next payday. Since February is such a short month, let’s get paid earlier in Jan!

I work for a big multinational & we were intrigued to discover our colleagues in various markets have their salary split into 13 and get an early payment in mid December to pay for Christmas as well as their usual pay. I quite like the idea.

I'd like a magnetic car roof aerial. It doesn't have to be functional. My last car had one, to which I added a bobblehead. I could find it easily in car parks. My newer model has a shark fin and I can't add a bobble. I don't want anything that might damage the paintwork. It seems an impossible task. My car is incredibly common, and black. I spend so long looking for it in car parks.

I've not tried this myself, so I have no idea if it would work, but could you use WhatThreeWords to identify where your car is, and then follow the directions back to it?

What standard would that be? Do you mean for security or should all websites offer the same user experience?

Everyone shoild have a limited use button fir turning a traffic light green as you approach. Just once a week. Just to bring a biy of jiy when every traffic light has been against you.

Carnage at junctions if four people used their button at the same time 😂

This would be great when coming home with a muddy child. But how will the bath get rinsed? Unless I’m the only person who rinses the bath before running it 😂
