... so not hugely necessary. But say you eat a pizza at a restaurant and you can't quite finish it all. Rather than a full-sized pizza box, can you please give me a half-sized one that I can fit in my handbag please?*

*only applies to more mainstream restaurants, I know that kebab/chicken places will jam anything into a small polystyrene/single use plastic container.

Just a little thing to make the world turn more easily. Also although I get the kids' menu and the discount, can we all please order smaller portions if we wish? Ta!

An appraisal system where your line manager can’t spend a whole year telling you how great you are and then at the actual appraisal they tell you you’re a bit shit actually so they don’t have to give you a pay rise - and that thing you won a national award for wasn’t that great after all 🙄

lol, for me an a appraisal system that actually means something - we have targets set, and they're never once mentioned or actioned or checked each year LOL

Might be like "go on training course to learn how to slice soup" - we'll get to next year, course won't have been booked by anyone despite me asking... so wont have attended or been trained, and it will just get put down again the next year.

I see your press studs and raise you velcro. It's not classy, but it is easy,

zips are even easier

To everyone commenting on the utter pain of having to use different parking apps, there’s supposed to be a national initiative to streamline this by making it possible to use any app of your choice at any car-park - the National Parking Platform https://www.npp.org.uk/

Unfortunately it’s reliant on local authorities adopting it, and not all have. But I suppose it’s a start…

Also, I read the other day about a couple of people who've started up a new organisation called Quibble, which aims to tackle the sort of small, everyday annoyances that bug most of us - eg the constant repeated barrage of cookies on websites. Ironically, though, they do have a cookie acceptance message on their website at https://www.quibble.org.uk/ - which they acknowledge somewhat ruefully, as it's a requirement, apparently 😵‍💫 But could be interesting.

The National Parking Platform (NPP)

The NPP is a not-for-profit, open platform connecting parking service providers to thousands of locations nationwide. Pay with your app of choice.

One car parking app, and one style of car park pay machine.

To build on this.

I will register my details with 1 (one) car parking app, and find the G Spot of 1 (one) in person car park pay machine, and that is all my perimenopause can deal with.

AND, all car parks MUST accept contactless AND cash too.

notacooldad · 03/06/2026 11:23

I use what3words to save the location. Especially useful when you've parked in a long stay car park and been on holiday for 2 weeks

Yes that is an excellent idea! I have it on my phone and keep forgetting to use it.

I use "find my car" a lot when I've gone to towns or places I don't know well, that's good as well. It was a massive help when I parked my car somewhere in Malaga last year and couldn't remember where 7 hours later!! 😆

I try to hard-boil my eggs most of the time, but sometimes, if I'm out and about and I need a bit of sustenance I will buy some hard-boiled eggs. I think they should come with a little packet of salt attached to the side of them.

It makes me smile to see how many pots of boiled eggs there are around now, and the amount of people who pick them up.

Makes me feel hopeful that Brits will eventually turn their backs on the American system of fast fake foods and return to better eating habits as a society - a collective attitude change to food in the way we (for the most part) now find smoking unacceptable.

I'm seeing the younger generations making so many great health choices (an actual positive from SM, maybe?) and us oldies rejecting the mad diet culture we grew up in for, well, snacking on boiled eggs!

Long may it last.

And good call on the salt sachet. Some black pepper would be nice, too!

A heat controlled bed. Mainly one that does not radiate heat back at me in the Summer months. Plus a duvet that retains its weight in Summer but not the heat.

On similar vein ds1 wants a heat controlled butter dish that maintains optimum spreadibility without over-heating.

And a hospital carpark that has sufficient spaces would make visits so much less stressful.

a heat controlled butter dish

Oh my god yes! I would get rid of my airfryer to make room for one of these!

AND, all car parks MUST accept contactless AND cash too.

If they did this, they'd probably find that transactions were 90% contactless, 9% cash and 1% or less apps, which would tell them what people think about apps, because who's going to use an app when they don't have to?

There's probably so many apps because it's easy to add on a load of sneaky extra fees which the app companies will present to the council as 'we'll give you a commission for all the added upselling' and not mention that they take most of the money for themselves.

Yes, these systems need paying for, but I don't understand what's wrong with card readers, especially when it frees the council from having to send someone round to collect all the money before the machine gets full, plus the risk of theft.

Don't forget all the personal data the app providers are taking!

Being able to open windows in an office, also a Premier Inn, a hospital, basically anywhere you have to spend more than half an hour. These days they all seem to be nailed shut. Why, for the love of God?

Because… idiots like my dh forget to shut the damn things & all the rain & wind comes in (& the cat runs off).
Guess the little thing would be a securely, self-closing window 🤭?

Catwalking · 03/06/2026 11:55

CP probs, …simple, cheap answer; take car’s pic with something that’ll never move in the background/foreground/nearby/anywhere, could also do same of whichever exit you use if extra big CP?

OhIDoLoveAnAcerTree · 03/06/2026 12:04

Thank you for the suggestion of a revolving pizza stone @FlowerSticker.

@Sux2buthen you can buy duvet clips for this. They are a game changer.

I’d like to be able fast forward through the ads by just tapping my AirPods instead of having to traipse around looking for my phone when they start on about AG1 and Better Health for the millionth time.

I can’t believe that the later version of the AirPods removed this feature, I was so gutted. It actually felt like a step back if anything.

The ‘issue’ about being paid early in December and it having to last longer into January always makes me eyeroll.

People think November salary only has to last three weeks then whine about January.

But if you stick to your normal budget schedule, your November salary should last until one week after you have been paid early . Then your December salary would be used from the usual date until January’s salary is paid. So it’s no different from any other month.

Oh I see!!! All we have to do is budget!!! Thank goodness for you and your wise and helpful eye roll 👏🏻

OneDogTwoCatsHalfaDH · 03/06/2026 12:11

Sounds like a lot of you are going to the wrong sort of eateries. Where I work we will always try to provide a childs' size portion of any meal, are happy to give a glass of tap water, and even do an extra hot latte. Although I might grumble under my breath about ruining the taste with singed milk!

I do love the idea of a permanently perfect temperature butter dish @OneInEight 😍

I can do that as long as I can get service; the problem in multistorey and basement car parks persists. Fab suggestion, thank you HurdyGurdy

take a photo of the carpark level and area/zone identifiers. Most carparks have signs saying eg "level 3" and "zone A"

My SIL was convinced her car had been stolen from a multistorey car park and got the security staff involved looking at CCTV and everything, until they worked out it was on the floor above where she thought it was. 😂

A size 13 in clothes. Size 12 is too tight size 14 too big.

In our family it is pretty much compulsory to say "remember kids, we're in the Itchy lot" when entering a large car park (it's a Simpsons reference)

Yes to this! My daughter is 9 and gets so fed up of always being offered chicken nuggets or sausage etc, she’d love our meals. We were away recently and she just ordered fries then shared my husband’s salmon noodle bowl and my steak pie, think we’ll keep doing this if future.
Also The Lounge do a decent kids menu if you find one: https://thelounges.co.uk/

In France we order an adult meal to share between two kids. Arrived on 2 plates. Of course this only works if you have an even number of children.

I worked for years in a place that did this. Once a year, you get paid twice in one month. It's the same with DLA/PIP payments.

For me it's just the universal credit that's per calendar month but it makes up about 45% of our income so it gets further and further away from payday so it's awkward to combine the 2 (payday being every 4 weeks)

Half bottles of wine please

🙏

Yes please, those little ones are too small but I sometimes want prosecco and not the whole bottle and the rest goes flat (I have tried the teaspoon and stoppers but it's not as good on day 2). A half bottle would be perfect.

I think I would also be inclined to drink less generally if these were a thing.

chillibuns · 03/06/2026 13:52

Phone chargers to all be the same and have the same usb fittings in sockets.
