AIBU to think a younger partner could genuinely find Justin Fletcher attractive?

Justin Fletcher (AKA Mr Tumble) has been in the news recently as the media have discovered he is with his co-star who is 21 years younger than him. I say good for them both and I hope they are happy.

There are so many comments however about her only being with him because of his money. I realise for certain people this would be an attractive prospect but I don’t understand why it’s so hard to believe a younger woman would find him attractive? I’m a similar age to her and if I was single I would date him, regardless of his money. I think he seems like a genuinely lovely, talented, hard-working man who is great with children and has done a lot for kids with special needs. That would be attractive to a lot of people. If I was with him I’d be happy to live in a small house and for him to leave his money to a children’s charity if he so wished.

So AIBU and naive to think there are others out there with a similar mindset to myself? I recognise there are gold-diggers out there but in this case I think Justin has a lot going for him even without his bank balance?

How do you know what other people do/don't find appealing?

Because I've been on this earth for 57 years and I can state with certainty that most women young enough to be the daughter of most tubby little men, don't tend to date them, especially when they're earning minimum wage.

Look around you, you also know it's true even if you don't want to admit it.

Saying it as a 21 year age gap without adding he’s mid 50s and she’s mid 30s and also works in children’s tv, makes it sound like it’s an inappropriate relationship or she’s a gold digger etc. sounds more like two people who’ve worked alongside each other for a long time have started dating. Both are beyond the young age where it’s possible they are being taken advantage of.

Justin Fletcher was always such a calm and nice seeming person, I’m glad he’s found someone, I do hope they are happy.

This, it’s a big age gap for sure, but at those ages not problematic, just an ages/stages thing, which is entirely their business. He seems like a lovely guy, good for them.

I can kind of get my head round it more than Carrie and boris

Well, when I look around me, I see plenty of couples who seem very physically mismatched (in terms of both looks and age). None of them are rich or famous and all seem very happy.

So I'm not sure your 57 years on earth really matter much.

People say it about all age gaps. I was often accused of being with my older OH for money. We were both poor as shit but I had (slightly) more than him.

I was with him as he was smart and funny and cute and completely in sync with me. We would talk for hours every day and never run out of topics, and he enhanced my life in every possible way.

Yes, my BFF met her DH when she was 30 and he 52 and she got accused of all sorts and sneered at, snubbed, patronised etc.

It's 24 years later and they are still blissfully happy and a perfect match. Ironically, she's the breadwinner and inherited money. But there are still some arseholes in our village who speak ill of her.

There is nothing most women young enough to be his daughter would find sexually appealing about this man, and even less so if he stacked shelves in a supermarket.

What a crass and shallow comment.

Look around you. Women in their 30s are in loving relationships with partners of all shapes, sizes and physical appearance.

Attraction has many dimensions not just physical

'theres someone for everyone' is bang on 😄😄😄😄

Are you stating that most young women date men 21 years older than them?

Really? You're saying I'm wrong and the actual majority of them do this? 🤦‍♀️😂

Your argument makes no sense.
His talent, interests, career, motivations etc. Are aligned with hers.
She's not picked him off a sugar daddy website.

HoneyBunny999 · 01/06/2026 17:40

My friend knows Mr T. He knocked a drink over my friend, accidentally I think, but laughed hysterically and told my friend to f off when he asked for a replacement.

I seem to remember Vic Reeves had a model girlfriend for a while

That's his wife! She's a fair bit younger than him, met while she was modelling on Shooting Stars. They're still together now.

I mean Carrie Johnson, Rosie Huntingdon Whitely and Catherine Zeta Jones seem happy enough. And they wouldn’t have been short of offers from men their own age.

Of course it makes sense unless you're claiming the majority of young women date men 21 years their senior who earn minimum wage?

Because that is my argument.

The majority do not.

And are they the majority of women?

The fact you can name them tells me that it's not.

Ive met him. He is not particularly nice.

Do you follow her on Insta? Beautiful home, beautiful kids, her life looks very happy. I wouldn’t choose an older man for my daughter but I would much sooner she was in this kind of set up than my friends who have similarly aged men with drug/fidelity/drinking issues or cocklodgers 🤷‍♀️

The majority of women are heading to be in no relationship at all. Leave other people be and chill with the snotty comments.

Lots of people wouldn't date someone their own age who earned minimum wage, so I'm not sure that's particularly relevant.

Skipitee · 01/06/2026 17:46

I couldn't see Mr Tumble in a sexual light.
But I find Lewis Capaldi extremely attractive so its not a looks thing, its a Cbeebies thing.

OonaStubbs · 01/06/2026 17:47

It falls just outside of the half your age plus 7 rule so it should not be allowed.

So technically, I was right 😊 he had a model girlfriend for a while ...Annnd then married her

My brain remembers that useless piece of celeb trivia from like 1999 why

I'm saying that the "would she fancy him if he was on minimum wage" argument is nonsensical. It's irrelevant.

Mrs Merton to Debbie McGee; "so tell me, what attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?"*

*Ps: this will go over the head of anyone under approx 35yo. No offence is intended, cultural reference circa late 90s.

😂. I remember watching it live and gasping when she uttered that immortal line. But to be fair to Debbie McGee she has a cracking sense of humour and took it well.

There is this yes!

He shares his birthday with my mum though (15th June) so if he’s anything like her he’s a lively character.

That is my birthday too!
