Do I dress like an old lady? I’m 42 and yes I’m aware I need a new bra and I have a fitting for one next week

OP posts:

I bet your DH doesn’t.

I’ve got huge boobs. My DH wishes mine were smaller so that I’d be happier with them!

You’ve read a lot into a throwaway remark. It’s you who has used the derogatory words not the OP. OP is not responsible for your inference here

It's hardly a throwaway remark, it's in the title and it's the entire point of the OP's post. God forbid she look like an old lady.

I guess I'm lucky to live in a city where the elder women have been so exposed to everything from art and street style to haute couture that they are usually extremely stylish and dress their truth. They've distilled their personal styles over the years to impressive levels.

I wouldn't wear that dress, it's not my style. It reminds me of the smocked top dresses of the 90s.

TooOrangey · 30/05/2026 20:03

I don’t think the dress is remotely ‘old lady’, but it does nothing for you.

Bristolandlazy · 30/05/2026 20:03

You look fine to me, plenty of older ladies are divas!

Your outfit is casual, I wouldn't wear that to a wedding but looks fine for everyday summer wear to me.

SpiralSister · 30/05/2026 20:05

Aluna · 30/05/2026 19:53

I bet your DH doesn’t.

I mean, fucking hell.

Solaitt · 30/05/2026 20:07

It’s absolutely fine OP.

It’s nauseating on these types of threads where women will say “not something I would wear, but you do you”. Like who gives a fuck? The OP didn’t ask if it’s something you would wear!

NameChangeMay2026 · 30/05/2026 20:08

I'd like to advise, but your user name is so disgusting it makes me feel somewhat ill, so I can't be on your thread and haven't read it.

newfriend05 · 30/05/2026 17:48

sorry OP that dress is not flattering on you and you’re 42 , not 62 it looks frumpy it’s hard I know when your big boobed , I am too … but you have a nice shape you can find better

Pack in with the ageism for goodness' sake.

Notsosweetcaroline · 30/05/2026 17:25

Um not 0ld lady no. Those dresses are quite fashionable now, more that one does nothing for you.

What are you on about? You look great, OP

Ayarreet · 30/05/2026 20:15

aintnothinbutagstring · 30/05/2026 17:37

I think it looks nice - its quite casual so possibly not what Id wear to event if thats what you had in mind. Wouldnt suit me because my upper arms cant really carry off strappy dresses and the bra issue would be too much of an inconvenience.

It's not an event dress!!!

But you took the time out to comment.

chirrupybird · 30/05/2026 20:17

As an 'old lady' what am I supposed to dress like? I'm usually jeans and a tee shirt.

They really, really do. Much to my amusement 😂

I want to ban the word "frumpy". Or dowdy.

This thread is just oozing in misogyny as well as ageism. Dresses have to be flattering, or "do something for you" to be sexually attractive to men and whether something is comfortable or well-made doesn't matter, and neither does whether the woman concerned likes it or not.

"Old Lady" dressing is not a thing.

FFS.

Who said it was to be sexually attractive to men, that’s not why it should be flattering or do something for you. No one mentioned men, just you.

BeNavyLion · 30/05/2026 19:41

Sorry if you've already said, I haven't read the full thread yet, but where would you say is a good place?

I need to get myself a good one and want to save money on the experimentation journey to find one through all the rubbish purchases 😅

tbh I'm more bothered about all the clutter in the front room.
Frock's great OP but clear the clutter 😁

Alright chill

Hybird · 30/05/2026 20:32

You don’t look like an old lady but its a dowdy dress that does you no favours.
