Do I dress like an old lady? I’m 42 and yes I’m aware I need a new bra and I have a fitting for one next week

OP posts:
whitefluffydog · 30/05/2026 22:16

The only fault I find with the dress is uncovering too much armpit and skin around the boob.....put something with short sleeve, deeper decolletage and tighter waist band

Agreed. Awful comments! That post by @placemats sounds like something my mother would say! 😬

Hilarious 🤣

The dress is not flattering at all for the figure.

That's not at all a derogatory comment.

All the things you said in your post that @YourPoliteTurtle quoted were derogatory!

YOUR post at 21.48 to the OP.

The dress doesn't flatter you at all. It emphasises your boobs, makes your legs look too short and why are you standing like that? Plus it's obvious you have big hips.

You actually think none of that is derogatory?!

Have a word with yourself.

Would you buy the dress online if the model looked exactly the same as the picture the OP posted? With the description 'do I look like an old lady in this?'

Wow, you don't know when to stop. Good grief. Please stop it. Your barrage of insults against the OP now is just awful!

Old lady? Hardly! Maybe your friend is jealous?

It's a casual summer maxi dress! It shows her figure, her waist. What else do you want?

It's not "not flattering", it's casual.

The OP has a lovely figure but that dress is not for her.

Must have maybe come across as a personal attack on the OP maybe? Even if you didn't mean for it to be.

No, I don't think it was a personal attack, but I suppose it depends how you look at it.....

Jamesblonde2 · 30/05/2026 22:35

Not flattering with big boobs. Looks matronly.

BurntBroccoli · 30/05/2026 22:36

The colour is doing absolutely nothing for you. Is there a navy version of it? Maybe with a nice long necklace - leather cord type with a simple metallic pendant.

Mine too!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 30/05/2026 23:54

No. Anyone could wear that type of dress, it’s light, casual, handy for holidays.

nomas · 31/05/2026 00:02

Not old but I wouldn’t wear a shirred bodice on bigger boobs. There are more flattering bodices for your body shape.

Ireolu · 31/05/2026 00:13

Same age as you and I personally wouldn't wear that dress. You need to try on more styles to figure out what works for your body. It draws alot of attention to your chest, and not enough to what are probably nice slim legs.

Bobloblawww · 31/05/2026 00:20

That dress is not flattering on you. But it wouldn’t be flattering on most women.

I am a very similar figure to you and would opt for dresses with wider straps and darker colours.

Thanks for all replies, the nice ones in particular . My friend maybe seemed rude but I did ask her to be honest and she gave her honest opinion

dress from m&S

i so wish my boobs were smaller

Embrace the boobs. Have a trip to to bravissimo .

ididabigfatsmelly · 31/05/2026 08:35

@whitefluffydogmeh die for my figure did u mean?

Hope not I’ve just spent £200 on two of those dresses from Nobodies Child!

Dear God the ageism in this thread is absolutely appalling.

I wish MN would make.ageism a reason for reporting threads.

What does dressing " like an old lady" actually mean? It is absolutely nasty , derogatory language

I'm 74. I don't dress " like an old lady". I dress like " me". How I want to look.
The assumption that old ladies are worthless unsightly, less than human, is absolutely disgusting.

I couldn’t agree more. I am 65 this week and would wear that dress.

I think there are many posters on here that get off on being bitchy under the guise of constructive criticism.

purpleme12 · 31/05/2026 09:56

Absolutely

ElevenBells · 31/05/2026 09:59

Well if you do then so do I, I’m wearing something very similar. I think you look great and don’t see an issue with the bra. I’m not even wearing one with my ‘old lady’ dress, too hot 🥵

The deleted post was quite shocking. @SixtySomething is being extremely disingenuous to claim they don’t know why it was deleted.
