To be sick of all the Arsenal celebrations??

I totally get it some - people are happy and excited. But the combination of the win, alcohol and hot weather has made my part of London feel really unpleasant since the big win. I went out earlier to get a few things from my local supermarket and felt really intimidated in my own neighbourhood - so many men (and yes, it is nearly all men) drinking, shouting, swearing, blowing stupid plastic horns at passers by. And now there is police and helicopters everywhere.

I am just praying for rain and cold weather, which I know will not come!

It’s one day and it hasn’t happened for 20 years

One day?? If only….

It's the people posting about it on social media that are doing my head in. So boring! No one cares!

Flamingojune · 24/05/2026 21:44

On the other hand you do live in the centre of a buzzy city. Pros n cons

Really? What do you think I was asking, then?

You weren’t asking anything at all. You, like in your later post, were being snidely and implying those of us saying it had been relentless were disingenuous, and you know it.

ShorterMumma · 24/05/2026 21:46

Are you a Spurs fan?
😆

They’ve been celebrating since Tuesday so it must have been anticipated then. Not a football fan, so not familiar with the ins and outs of what they needed to win. DD sent me video from her flat on Tuesday night at midnight, it sounded like bloody mayhem outside!

Yes - I am not expert but they knew on Tuesday night that they had won.

We drove up Blackstock road earlier and ran the gauntlet of fans in the street blocking the cars and buses, banging on the car window, hollering, flag-waving etc. Not fun although I guess it would have been bracing if you were a fan.

We also saw about six police vans on their way somewhere, so I'm guessing it wasn't all peaceful...

Omg, the bit near The Gunners pub where they’ve also got temporary traffic lights!!! We got stuck on a red and I had my heart in my mouth - baby and dog in the car!

No, they lost. That's why they're celebrating 🙄

😂

They've been waiting 22 years let them enjoy the win

The can celebrate without being antisocial.

I live opposite the stadium (one road over) & it is very very busy still. People climbing up the scaffolding outside the uni halls. It’s been busy since the win but today is on another level. We’re Arsenal fans (mainly AWFC) but we’re staying in now. Holloway Rd is still full of people, cars aren’t getting through. I’m super excited about the win but want everyone to chill out until Saturday now!

The heat hasn’t helped the situation nor has the amount of booze being sold. On match days you can’t buy alcohol from local shops an hour before the match or afterwards but obviously today it’s been non stop. I came back from the gym on the Cally at 10 this morning & the queues for the local pubs were massive. Even the ice cream parlour were screening the match.

On the plus side I went into the west end at lunch to do some shopping with my DD’s & it was absolutely
dead. Everyone must have been in Holloway

Nooo, surely not?

I was questioning the sweeping statements that it had been “going on since Tuesday” so, over 120+ hours, non stop.

I then followed that by suggesting that the CoL crisis hadn’t affected the area as these people obviously hadn’t been home or gone to work, and had copious amounts of money to spend on alcohol.

I pointed out that all sorts of events happen up and down the country - and - yes!! - even to me! And we can’t do anything about it.. so 🤷‍♀️

Yes - I am not expert but they knew on Tuesday night that they had won.

The Man City result on Tuesday meant Arsenal won the PL regardless of any scores today. Man City could have won 7-0 and Arsenal could have lost 10-0 and Arsenal would have still have won the league. However all 38 games have to be played before the trophy is given.

Usually the PL has been wrapped up long before the penultimate game of the season.

I'm an Arsenal fan and Islingtonian (but we're on holiday!)

MauriceTheMussel · 24/05/2026 21:56

I think the trophy has gone to your head. Nobody said it had been 120 hours. No normal person hears “going on since Tuesday” and assumes it’s non-stop. That’s just thick.

Y’know, all kinds of bad or even inconvenient things go on all over the world every day…doesn’t mean you just sit there and take it.

Toomanyuglyplasticbins · 24/05/2026 21:57

My 62 dh, life long Arsenal supporter has gone & got himself an Arsenal tattoo, as a tribute to them winning. I get football, but I'm not really a fan of tattoos. I don't know what possessed him 😬

HelenHywater · 24/05/2026 21:57

I'm with you too. I live nearby and I'm fed up of the helicopters and shouting, chanting, beeping, fireworks.

I've had to close my windows so I can try to get some sleep.

AlwaysAnAddams · 24/05/2026 21:43

Just to clarify, they have not won the champions league, they’ve won the premier league

BUT

they are in the final of the champions league and have never won it before I don’t think, so buckle up because if they win that, this is going to be ongoing!!

It’s a big deal to football folk

You’re quite right. Getting ahead of myself there!

It's obvious that people do care. Not everyone but many.

Haha aw that’s quite sweet! Did he do anything to commemorate last time they won the PL?

Yes. I'm aware, having lived in central London since 1992. And in this house for 16 years.

B0D · 24/05/2026 22:06

I’m in Islington and made the mistake of travelling via Holloway earlier today. It was very busy with fans but still functional. I managed to get home by 4 PM and stayed in listening to the racket. I’m not a fan but you can’t help feeling happy for them. It was a good atmosphere then, just the heat and bank holiday has ramped things up. It’s next weekend I won’t be trying to go anywhere.
I sympathise with innocent residents dealing with litter and noise (I lives bit away from the stadium) and wonder if the side pay for cleaning up afterwards.

gillefc82 · 24/05/2026 22:08

As a dedicated but long suffering Evertonian who’s sadly spent far longer than Arsenal’s 22 years waiting to celebrate winning any silverware, never mind the league title, it genuinely saddens me to see so many fun-sponges out and about in North London.

Here’s hoping England’s men don’t win the World Cup in July….I don’t think there’s enough pearls in the Capital for all the clutching those celebrations would cause.

Edit: spelling.

childoftkty · 24/05/2026 22:08

we are a true arsenal family. DP been a fan since he had a season ticket with his grandpa as a child, my family are arsenal fans since great grandparents time, one child played in the academy, other kids went to school with players. One child a spurs fan - seriously considering making him homeless. It’s a massive big deal in our family and and a wonderful bonding thing. Next week we will watch the champions league final and drink a special whisky and toast our wonderful recently deceased uncle who would have been so proud of his team

To correct you - I’m not the Arsenal ‘lifelong born and brought up in flats by Highbury’ fan that’s my old man. Trophy hasn’t gone to my head, they’re not my team. thanks.

Im not thick as you delicately put it. Far from it. Kind of you to speculate, but I’m educationally fine, thanks.

Quite agree that bad things, inconvenient things, go on all over the world every day. How on earth do you think you can ‘not sit there and take it?’ You have no power over these sorts of things. We all have to put up with crappy stuff we can’t bear ( I’m a real fireworks NYEve hater, but it still happens every bloody year!) In context, this is a rare occurence for Arsenal! It will pass, and be another 22 years til the next time.

MauriceTheMussel · 24/05/2026 22:12

No, people do have power over things like this - not always direct power, but it’s possible. I cant explain social machinations on an iPhone though.
