AIBU to suggest emailing Andy Burnham about access to women’s toilets?

Aibu to suggest you can email Andy Burnham if you are what he calls one of the “tiny, tiny, tiny number of people” who believe that men including “transgender women” should not be allowed to use women’s toilets.

[email protected]

Perhaps if he gets enough emails he’ll see he is not right.

Yawnnnnnn. Why not concern yourself with something that actually matters? What harm have trans people ever done to you, or anyone? Give it a bloody rest and get a life.

StillFeelingTired · 20/05/2026 16:14

Thanks op. I’m going to email

98% of women don't agree with him.

Where does that stat come from?

I'll do it, great idea @UnDeuxTwuh thank you.

To a lot of people this is a massive issue!

SerenaPlumber · 20/05/2026 16:19

Very good! Let’s all email him, I fully agree. Twat for generalising about women to suit himself!

This does actually matter a great deal. Unless you think that the safety of women and girls is not important

Was this comment made recently? Do you have a link? I will email but would like to know the context. Good idea.

Yep, I'm in.

That man is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. Afraid to rock the boat re Labour supporters of trans ideology and women who are GC and don't want men in any of their spaces.

Typical politician.

I think it was a YouGov Poll

StellaOlivetti · 20/05/2026 20:19

I want to do this, but I can’t quite see how to contact him? Sorry to be dense.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 20/05/2026 20:23

Thanks OP, will be emailing in support of him!

Sometimessmiling · 20/05/2026 20:28

This was a while ago pre debate about this. We have learned more over the last few years.

24caratgoldlabubu · 20/05/2026 20:31

Oh christ OP have a day off. There are people dying and the cost of living is eroding us all.

singthing · 20/05/2026 20:47

To the people complaining about the idea: if it is really true that no women think it is a problem and everything is sunny and fine, then Mr Mayor just won't get any emails - so what are you so argy about? You're presumably not his special social media police.

If he isn't your Mayor and you do not live in Makerfield, then I suspect you might be politely redirected to the head of your own local authority or your own MP, given Andy Burnham has no authority in your area.
I suppose it wouldn't hurt to tip him the wink that his 2022 comments didn't go down well with some women so he can come back with a less controversial response next time he's asked.

These are separate matters.

Focussing on single sex spaces does not reduce anybody's concern about the cost of living.

I entirely support protections for trans people.

There is no contradiction between that and thinking that single sex spaces should be single sex spaces

I don't have a problem with transgender people. I have a trans-identified family member and we get along just fine, although I don't agree with the reasoning behind it.

What I want, and what I have a right to insist upon, is no male people of any presentation or ilk in lawful, female single-sex spaces (not just toilets, but also medical and care situations, etc.)

This matters to me. You clearly don't care, but if your elderly mother wanted a female carer for intimate care and was refused this because it made her a "bigot", my guess is you would change your tune pretty quickly.

I think it’s of great importance. But MEN are the biggest threat to the safety of women and girls, not trans people. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a bigoted, narrow-minded transphobe

Transwomen (trans-identified men) are biological men. This fact doesn't change no matter how they dress, present, or whether or not they have any surgery.
