AIBU to suggest emailing Andy Burnham about access to women’s toilets?

UnDeuxTwuh · 20/05/2026 13:24

Aibu to suggest you can email Andy Burnham if you are what he calls one of the “tiny, tiny, tiny number of people” who believe that men including “transgender women” should not be allowed to use women’s toilets.

[email protected]

Perhaps if he gets enough emails he’ll see he is not right.

Oh fgs can you ever stop trying to scapegoat a minority group for one day 😒 But yeah, slow clap for forever deflecting attention from people who are an actual danger to women and girls.

Men are an actual danger to women and girls though. Thats the point. Thats why women don’t want men in their spaces. You’re so close to understanding the issue! So close!

Laws can be changed.

A politician would have to be utterly insane to remove women’s rights by changing the law. Utterly insane.

bozo123 · 20/05/2026 22:45

I have a female friend who is tall and broad shouldered and normally has a short hair cut. She has been told off quite aggressively by other women for daring to use the ladies toilets because rude women presume she doesn’t present conventionally or femininely enough. What is she supposed to do?
Meanwhile, men do what they like. I, a woman, was changing my female child in the ladies changing room at the swimming pool. A man wearing men’s clothes and making no effort to disguise himself as anything other than a man with a phone in his hand was sitting with a phone in his hand in a cubicle half concealed by a curtain. A mum escorted him out. He returned. We had to get staff involved, suggesting it wasn’t an honest mistake.
I don’t think the problem is trans people and I’m really not sure toilet police are helping.

PoachedSmoke · 20/05/2026 22:47

Excellent suggestion OP. Will be advising my friends to do the same. Tagging him prolifically on X is probably a good shout too. The safety of women and girls must be taken seriously.

Is your friend Albert Einstein?

Laws can be changed.

Absolutely, won't disagree with that! Laws are hard work to make and often take a long time to unravel and put back together, so I guess if someone wanted to make a law based on how pretty we look today, thereby determining what services they are entitled to, they'd probably better start now.

Maybe come back from time to time to update us on how that's working out for you?

Eyesopenwideawake · 20/05/2026 22:56

Haven't RTFT but I did see today that he made that comment in 2022. Those little tinkers at the DM didn't mention that. I wonder why...

MyJustCat · 20/05/2026 22:56

We had a trans in our female gym pool changing room - there's only one cubicle so usually its communal women's changing, my 7 year old DS asked me why there was a man with boobs - said man was naked in the female changing room, not sure that's a situation Andy B has ever had to deal with, but clearly he's just trying to jump on the popular bandwagon - strange that Labour are so far removed from what people want despite the clear message at the local elections.

He’s fully able to correct the position firmly if his views have changed though. Resounding silence!

Well, since you haven't RTFT, you won't have read that he also made similar, complementary remarks in 2024. Does it matter when? He hasn't said anything to the contrary since. Now that he's being tipped for a run up to Labour leader, I'd expect him to confirm or deny these statements soon. It's only political posturing that he hasn't yet, but I would expect nothing else from a politician.

If your friend is at all bothered she could grow her hair. If not she can state that she is and has always been a biological woman.

My daughter gets misgender all the time. Laughs it off. Happy to correct people.

Your changing room anecdote just emphasised how it’s really important that women have the right to demand a man - any man however they identify- if removed from their single sex spaces for their privacy, dignity and safety. If not what’s stopping the guy simply saying he was a transwoman? He’d have to be left alone to perve to his hearts content, while you’d be labelled a bigot for complaining.

BunfightBetty · 20/05/2026 23:03

Thanks OP, I’ll be emailing the silly arrogant twat tomorrow.

The absolute nerve of any man who thinks he gets to tell women to give up our rights.

And once more for the hard of thinking - it is MEN we object to in women’s single sex spaces. It’s not because they’re trans, it’s because they’re men. They’re not women.

Transmen, being female, are welcome in the ladies. Transwomen, being male are not - no matter what internal feelings they have about themselves, what they call themselves or how they present. None of that magically enables them to change sex.

Jossse · 20/05/2026 23:03

I don’t expect a stranger to know whether my son or husband is a pervert (they’re not thankfully) nor would I expect them to know that my uncle Kenneth was a paedo. You cannot tell by looking at a man whether they are kind or not, which is why ALL men have no place in woman’s single sex spaces.

I really object to the supposed ‘gotcha’ of “but what if it’s a trans man”. They’re women. They don’t have penises. How are they going to rape anyone?

Feel free to post links to where he’s taken the statements back, and made it clear that actually, he isn’t a misogynistic twat after all, and he fully respects women’s rights and will protect them.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 20/05/2026 21:40

Transwomen ARE men. The reason we keep men out of female spaces apply equally to them.

Trans women are women. And they don’t pose a threat to cis women in the slightest. Cis men, on the other hand, do.

Why don’t you google the percentage of trans women who commit violent crimes and let me know what you find?

Some of the reported comments relate to the Supreme Court case which was just last year.

Transwomen are not women now are they? If they were actually women there wouldn’t be a problem. They’re men. The law says so. Reality says so.

here’s some stats on transwomen for you. Enjoy.

I would encourage everyone concerned about transwomen using the ladies to consider who benefits from you believing that men are using this as a loop hole to hang out in women's toilets and what they might want you to ignore in favour.

It’s such a childish move, and really lays bare that those trotting it out have done absolutely nothing to educate themselves as to why women object to penises in our spaces.

You clearly haven't RTFT,as I posted this earlier:

Found some stats for you, hope this is what you meant?
England and Wales, 31 March 2024: of 245 transgender prisoners whose legal gender was male, 151 were convicted of a sexual offence. That is 61.6%. The MoJ answer says this group includes those who now identify as women, non-binary or gender-fluid.
