Was I wrong to report this?

Name changed for this, as absolutely don't want it linked to my regular posts.
Last weekend, a male friend of mine sent me a sexually graphic video (him masturbating to climax) totally out of the blue.
For context, this is a friend of 6 years, 5 of which he has had a girlfriend.
Because of past trauma (including being raped as a child and, separately, as an adult), I totally freaked out over this and reported him to the police (after contacting his girlfriend, then blocking him on everything).
Have I overreacted?

I am so sorry that this happened to you and just wanted to send you a hug and strength. I hope you have support and kindness around you. I think you were right and brave to report - it is a recognised crime for good reason. Horrible, stupid, selfish and entitled behaviour from him.

But please hold on to the fact that none of this is your fault and you have nothing to feel ashamed about, not that he did this, and not how you respond to it - your feeling are valid. I am baffled by all the people that think this ok or funny.

You've been betrayed and abused by someone you know and trusted. Again. Of course you are very upset.
Did he know your history, Op?
