AIBU to apologise after DH barked at the neighbour's dog?

Last year the neighbour behind us got a small dog. It yaps.

Anyway DH has been complaining to me about this irritating dog ever since she got it and admittedly it is very annoying but what can you do? It’s during the day and it’s not constant.

He’s been away with work for 3 days and has come back grumpy and tired - last night he went outside to check on his plants and the dog started yapping. DH went absolutely bonkers, started running up and down the fence barking and snarling like a dog until the woman came out and hastily took her dog back inside. Mortified!! I know he was tired but Jesus he was acting like a psychopath

Hes back at work today and she’s sat outside in the sun - do I pop my head over and apologise/explain or leave it and assume we’re no longer on good terms 😬

Why are you apologising ? Anyway she should not leave a little dog outside on its own unattended . Sorry but the mental picture of a guy running up & down barking through the fence is hilarious 😂 Your neighbour probably thinks hubby is a nutcase 😂 maybe your hubbys behaviour has done the trick x

IndigoBluey · 26/04/2026 01:51

did DH get down on all fours for the episode? I think that’s a key missing part. Could it be that he identifies as a K-9?

Soccerislife · 26/04/2026 02:17

I don’t know why you’d apologise on his behalf.

Those small yappy dogs are so annoying.

Nurturegrow11 · 26/04/2026 05:56

Say nothing, it’s almost like pretending it didn’t happen

Hopelessinhomecounties · 26/04/2026 07:45

I agree I’d be furious if it was me. I’d probably not apologies just say hi. And leave it at that. (You could have been out yesterday … so at least you’re on speaking terms. He can deal with the apology himself.
if she says anything play dumb

Daisythepussycat · 26/04/2026 07:45

Sounds entirely reasonable of him to me - I always bark back at annoying dogs.

Harhar · 26/04/2026 08:12

Reminds me of this. Grim!

Yeah great result if you want a lunatic for a husband.

Oh chill. It’s not that deep. He did one daft thing. If you’ve never ever done one daft thing in your life, well… I’d say you’re lying. Or so uptight you don’t know what life is.

Harhar · 26/04/2026 09:36

What is life if you can’t bark like a dog without people thinking you’re weird?!

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 26/04/2026 09:40

SetTheWorldOnFire84 · 25/04/2026 18:31

Yes apologise. If my neighbour did that I'm jump the fence and deck him. What a sad little twat.

Now that’s a response far more disproportionate than what the DH did. So much anger. Have you thought about self care to improve your internal rage? Wink

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 26/04/2026 09:44

Harhar · 25/04/2026 19:13

That’s ok. Very few of you know anything about comedy yet still feel able to comment.

So invested, so obsessed 🤣

Harhar · 26/04/2026 09:48

Obsessed with pointing out that grown men barking in gardens is not funny. Rather that than arguing it is. How long have you been a furry?

xerodo · 25/04/2026 21:40

It's obvious who are dog owners and who aren't in this thread 😂

If I lived next to a barking dog and was having a bad day, I would probably end up snapping too.

OP, your husband has nothing to apologise for. At least now your neighbour knows how annoyed you are with her yapping dog.

I’m a dog owner and lover and I’m Team DH.

My dog is trained, unlike most of the yappy little “cute” dogs that get away with everything. I’m a responsible owner who knows my large dog needs me to be the boss, not his indulgent servant. Can’t stand handbag dogs that are allowed to be utter pests to everyone.

Daleksatemyshed · 26/04/2026 09:50

Op, that's the best thread title I've seen on here in weeks 😅

Hope you warmed up properly before that leap. 🤣

I did yeah, in the garden whilst ribbiting. Funny huh?

Looneytunez · 26/04/2026 10:56

When I notice my dogs are barking I tell them to stop and if they wont I bring them inside. Either way it is a noise nuisance and I applaud your husband for his creativity.

JudgeJ · 26/04/2026 14:46

BernardButlersBra · 25/04/2026 21:12

How do you tell a cat what to do or not do?! Plus it was your cats walk by the sound of it

That's exactly what the cat said, this is my wall! He did allow us near it if he was feeling generous that day.

MrCollinsandhisboiledpotatoes · 26/04/2026 15:12

Omg just seen this, thank you OP, needed this laugh 😂

If her dog is allowed to bark in its garden, your DH is allowed to bark in his garden. There's nothing to apologise for.

MyObservations · 26/04/2026 15:15

I'm with your DH on this; good for him!

gahno · 26/04/2026 15:51

After a crappy day arguing with dh who is cold and weird with no empathy what your dh did made me laugh @Greyblankie

tulipseason12 · 26/04/2026 15:59

she needs to apologies for allowing her dog to yap! when mine starts to bark i immediately bring her in

Harhar · 26/04/2026 16:52

Are you all reading this? The neighbour does bring the dog in when it barks.

The dog being annoying does not make the husband funny.

It's too late by then. It's already yapped. It's already disturbed the neighbours. She needs to train it not to yap.

YourGentleBluePanda · 26/04/2026 18:37

Morganrae1 · 24/04/2026 22:01

Like it or not, you can't stop dogs barking. Approach her and have a laugh about you Husbands madness.

Actually the owner can train the dog not to bark inappropriately, if not, then they clearly have got a mismatched pet!!
