Rethink that when you’re 40

In all honesty yes a lot of my family do sadly even younger due to cancer even in late 30’s and 40’s.

Well unless you're related to everyone, this makes your thread title nonsense 😳

DirtyBird · Yesterday 19:09

I would say around early 40s is middle aged since the average life span is around 80.

LemonTyger · Yesterday 19:26

No. I consider middle age 35-45, with a life span of around 70-90, which covers most

Errrrr no. 🙄

On average I would say no. More like 45 these days. Unless you’ve had a rough paper round.

I looked about 25 when I was 30, barely shaving and baby faced.

Nobody would say Timothee Chalamet is middle aged at 30. And certainly not Taylor Swift now in her late 30s.

30 is an amazing age with so much youthfulness present.

70 is pushing it for middle aged

50 is more than pushing it for 'young adult'

fabstraction · Yesterday 21:21

Why the need to label it? You're only as old as you feel, after all. 🙃

I'm probably middle-aged, but it sounds so... In most ways, I feel about as young as I ever have. A few come and go aches and pains and some health issues, but many people have those much younger than I have. I'd rather just be me and not think about my age too much on a daily basis.

CombatBarbie · Yesterday 21:46

Lomonald · Yesterday 18:05

How can a 35 year old be middle aged what are you basing this on @CombatBarbie

The amount of people I know now that are dying in their 70s.? Not sure how thats hard to understand. And so if the average age is 84..... thats exactly that..... so 35-40 is more accurate

PleasantPedant · Yesterday 21:51

@CombatBarbie , It's not to do with when you die, it's the bit when you're no longer young and not yet old. Look it up.

Don't quote me like I'm an uneducated fool. There are so many illnesses these days that do a rapid decline in health once diagnosed. Like the brain hears it and accepts it, MS, dementia, cancer, these weren't as prevalent 20/30 yrs ago.

PleasantPedant · Yesterday 22:01

That has absolutely nothing to do with what the term middle-aged means, @CombatBarbie .

CombatBarbie · Yesterday 22:02

Dementia is being diagnosed much earlier, cancer is on the rise. or we are much better at detecting the symptoms, but those i know who have diagnosed too late are now not a statistic of early dying.so the data is scewed. Mental health suicides are now tenfold.....

So the illnesses ive stated dont affect your overall wellbeing? Your ability to lead a normal life?

Not waking up aching, not suffering burnout at 40/50 is not uncommon, in fact its more publicised now.

Middle aging is declining..... at 45 yrs old, would i have another child.....christ no! My body and brain would not cope.

MundaneEasterBunny · Yesterday 22:08

i am 44 and very aware that most of my on my mum’s side pass at around 60. ☹️

Is this why you started another thread today (a whole two minutes after you started this one) about what to wear for your 30th in July?

Do you think you might have to start dressing like a middle-aged person?

PleasantPedant · Yesterday 22:12

@CombatBarbie , if you want to discuss the conditions in your post, start another thread. Your post does not support your claim that 35 is middle-aged.

blacksax · Yesterday 22:19

Easy way to tell. Have you yet reached the day when your teenage daughter tells you that you can't go out dressed like that?

KitTea3 · Yesterday 22:23

I'm 39 and definitely do not expect to still be alive by almost 80 so yeah I agree I am mid life 😬😭

Kingdomofsleep · Yesterday 22:26

I reckon it goes in 20 year blocks. Child, young, middle aged, older. 0-20, 20-40, 40-60, 60+

By that calculation you aren't middle aged till you're 40.

I will shift this to going up in 25s when I turn 40.

0 - 15 = child
16 - 25 = youth
25 - 50 = young adult
51 - 70 = middle-aged adult
71 - 85 = older adult
85+ = elderly adult

The idea that 50 is young adult and 70 is middle aged, is as batshit as 30 being middle aged! 😆

I would say

0 - 18 = child
19 - 40 = young adult
41 - 50 = Middle-aged
51 - 70 = Senior
71+ = Elderly

Cushionseams · Yesterday 22:32

TBF, I hated turning 30. By far my worst birthday. I felt I had to grow up.

Sixty next year and I'll be thrilled!
