Do you still have a ‘Hotmail’ email address

Keep seeing this mentioned on social media in videos or posts about being old 😳🤣
I have no plans to change my email but lots of people saying they hate giving their email address to people and having to say ‘@ hotmail.com’
I didn’t even realise new emails don’t still use this…

From 2001, full name and date of birth. I was so amazed I never gave it a moments thought. It has been my only address.

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 31/03/2026 14:52

Yes, but only for my junk mail, but I don’t want in my main mailbox as it became very spammed a few years back

Probably not a good idea to have your date of birth in your email address. Nor your full name if you give the correct details for security questions.

I never had a Hotmail address, but remember in the early 00s Hotmail addresses were very much looked down on.
My original e-mail was Compuserve, followed by Yahoo, T-Online, Web and now Gmail.
Currently culling my e-mails, so T-Online has gone and Yahoo will be retired soon as it just gets spam these days.
I try, wherever possible, not to use my Google account to log in to websites, in the vain hope that by logging in manually I am not giving away too much of my user activity to a large, American corporation.

I log in with my personal email address as it would be a pain in the arse when Google, MS or FB go down and you are stuck.

Also I don't really see why Google need to know what other websites I may or may not wish to visit.

Why not for job applications?? Genuine question.

I still have my @aol email address from the days when I had "dial up" internet ! Mind you I've had the same mobile number for 25 years as well...

Yes, with my full name, no numbers/special characters, I'm that old 🤣

Same! Secured in 1999 and has done a sterling job ever since 🤣

Kittyberry · 31/03/2026 16:36

My DH is still hanging onto his @AOL.com email…. Unashamedly created in 1998! I was, but long ago migrated to @gmail.com

Me too!!!

Rescuedog12 · 31/03/2026 19:50

Mine's MSN.com which has started to raise eyebrows with younger people.

Movinginthesunlight · 01/04/2026 15:38

I also have a hotmail.com email address, had no idea this meant i was old! Does it mean every time i give my address for a receipt the (usually) young assistant thinks I am really old?!

I have multiple other emails that i use for discounts and sign ups, but use hotmail for everytime else.

I am in my mid 30s.

apapuchi · 01/04/2026 22:05

I still have my AOL email from 2000 and it's my primary email address, it does get some chuckles and comments but the part I created isn't embarrassing so I don't care. I really like the app and layout but maybe that's just as I am so, so used to it 😂. It hadn't occurred to me I'd look like a relic if used for job applications etc...

I have a Gmail account created when I set up my phone years ago which I use as a secondary one, and an OU address as I'm studying but they'll never replace my original. So many emails in there from my mam pre-dementia and back and forth between me and my husband when we first met in 2008 and were emailing instead of working. A treasure trove of the good, bad and embarrassing!

XenoBitch · 01/04/2026 22:07

I still have a Yahoo one, and I have had people rip the piss out of me. I don't know why. It works.

CasperGutman · 01/04/2026 22:36

I used to have a Hotmail address but I can't even remember what it was now.

I jumped onto Gmail the year it launched, when you had to be invited to join the beta version, and I've been [email protected] ever since (not really, I use my real name instead of a pseudonym, but you get the general idea).

I'm a bit envious of my brother in law, who has an awesome email. It's just a monosyllabic diminutive of his name, on the level of [email protected].

janj52301 · 11/04/2026 19:01

My main email is my name, no numbers etc but yahoo. I even have an NHS.NET email of firstname.surname but I think the previous holder must have left and it's been reallocated as many of my colleague's email addresses are into very high numbers and my name is very common

Gcn · 11/04/2026 19:04

I have an aol.com one as my main email address. Have Gmail in full name, which I don't use much.
