Do you still have a ‘Hotmail’ email address

Keep seeing this mentioned on social media in videos or posts about being old 😳🤣
I have no plans to change my email but lots of people saying they hate giving their email address to people and having to say ‘@ hotmail.com’
I didn’t even realise new emails don’t still use this…

OP posts:

It's not quite as bad as an AOL email address, which I actually saw recently!

Who cares, as long as it works. But not for job applications 😬

Why not for job applications?? Genuine question.

Snackkers · 29/03/2026 19:22

Mine is that old it’s Hotmail.co.uk
but I use to have a fsmail.
so I still feel this is my new one.

Do you think AOL will ever withdraw support from the emails facility? I wouldn't know what do!

Edited

AOL doesn't exist any more, but the email part is currently owned by an Italian company.

Tipsowner · 29/03/2026 19:41

My first email address was numeric. xxxxx.1244@ compuserve/com.

Lifewontbethesame · 28/03/2026 10:59

Yes, with my full name, no numbers/special characters, I'm that old 🤣

Same

bitterexwife · 29/03/2026 20:09

Yep, [email protected]

Watchingthechaseagain · 29/03/2026 21:18

I have a .com. Just checked, oldest email saved is from 2006. It’s one of the chain joke emails that used to be sent via work emails. We don‘t see them any more, security tighter everywhere.

Nuffpills · 29/03/2026 21:24

I never realised that people judge you by your email address! Do I care?…absolutely not !

Witsend2025 · 29/03/2026 21:35

Mine's full name and hotmail.co.uk. Didn't realise that showed my age!

Which websites? Can’t say I’ve had any issues, but then I do tend to use hide my email a lot.

I run our local choir website. We cannot sent to Hotmail or Outlook emails as they detect that the message is coming from a mailing list and delete it before it even hits the spam folder. As info about rehearsals and arrangements for upcoming concerts go out by email, it can cause problems.

Well that is another problem with using Someone Elses Tech.

You are subject to their spam/scam detection. Which can lose genuine emails without your realising.

ladyofshertonabbas · 30/03/2026 10:31

I do. Doesn't that make us early adopters, ie cool? I got it in 1997.

RedPony1 · 30/03/2026 10:40

still have my firstnamesurname @ hotmail.com address from 2000 too.

It's my only email address outside of work and yes i use it on my CV. No idea why that would be an issue! They can work out my rough age by my work history anyway....

Starseeking · 30/03/2026 12:15

I do. My original Hotmail address in 2000 was actually myinitialmysurname, but I stupidly forgot the password so I had to add a number to my new similar sounding email address. Been annoyed with myself for doing that ever since!

You need to change the website host then. Your inability to receive emails from normal email addresses is kind of a problem with your systems not the mailer.

Covidwoes · 30/03/2026 20:21

Anyone remember yahoo? Haha! My cousin had a yahoo email address. 😂

Sasp100 · 30/03/2026 20:24

I have an aol email address 😱🤣

TrixieFatell · 30/03/2026 20:27

Yup I have the original hotmail.com. the 90s are back in fashion, I'm fashionably retro.

Yes, me too. It's so easy. They'll have to prise it out of my cold, dead hand.

Psithurism · 30/03/2026 20:45

I have a job where I record personal information and the most common email accounts I see are gmail followed by hotmail (.com and .co.uk) None of the other email providers stand out particularly volume wise.

My kids are really impressed that mine is firstnamelastname@ with no numbers but they do consider it out of date. I’m not bothered.

99.9% of people who have an Android phone, tablet or use Chrome will have a gmail address by default.

AmazingGreatAunt · 31/03/2026 09:23

I never had a Hotmail address, but remember in the early 00s Hotmail addresses were very much looked down on.
My original e-mail was Compuserve, followed by Yahoo, T-Online, Web and now Gmail.
Currently culling my e-mails, so T-Online has gone and Yahoo will be retired soon as it just gets spam these days.
I try, wherever possible, not to use my Google account to log in to websites, in the vain hope that by logging in manually I am not giving away too much of my user activity to a large, American corporation.
