Do you still have a ‘Hotmail’ email address

flagpolesitta · 28/03/2026 10:57

Keep seeing this mentioned on social media in videos or posts about being old 😳🤣
I have no plans to change my email but lots of people saying they hate giving their email address to people and having to say ‘@ hotmail.com’
I didn’t even realise new emails don’t still use this…

Yes I do as my main email but also have iCloud and gmail but they are rarely used/checked.

myglowupera · 28/03/2026 11:09

Yes I do 😄 I set it up around 2010 when I needed a more “grown up” sounding email address after my 2004 one started to sound a bit silly. That one still exists too though.

Gingernaut · 28/03/2026 11:10

I do.

However, certain websites no longer view hotmail accounts as valid emails, so I keep my Gmail in my back pocket

My gmail account is simply my firstname, last name

My little brother had to invite me to create my account

I didn’t realise this either!

Catisheavyonmylap · 28/03/2026 11:14

Which websites? Can’t say I’ve had any issues, but then I do tend to use hide my email a lot.

Overtheatlantic · 28/03/2026 11:15

Mines from the late 90s! I didn’t know it marked me as an oldie 😆

Parsleyforme · 28/03/2026 11:16

I still use Hotmail but I have a .co.uk email address. The .com ones are definitely quite old! At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter. Sometimes I see tradesmen with AOL or BTinternet email addresses and I assume they’ve been in business a long time and are too busy having lots of work to bother changing it! Absolutely everything (including work) goes through my Hotmail so I don’t have a clue how I’d go about changing it for every account I’ve ever made on a website

edit - but I actually do want to change it because it’s so difficult to say over the phone. It’s something like sarabbmacdonald so I have to say the spelling of each word and the letters in the middle sound like other letters

As if our skinny jeans and side partings weren’t enough of a giveaway, we now need to be self-conscious about our email addresses? 😂

My son has a Hotmail email address. I don't see a problem.

Until I ditched Virgin Media 3 years ago I still had an ntlworld.com email address dating back to early 1990s.

Moonnstarz · 28/03/2026 11:18

I didn't realise having a Hotmail address was a problem or that it made you old 🙈

Natsku · 28/03/2026 11:19

Still have mine, though I used my nickname rather than full name so it is not the email address I use in general life Grin instead I use my Gmail account which is my name with numbers or anything as I set it up back when it was invitation only.

MuchTooTired · 28/03/2026 11:19

I’ve got a Hotmail.com one. I know it’s linked to my Facebook profile and that was 20 years ago but I had my email address way before that.

Crumbs, I feel very wise and experienced in life old now - in my head I’m 19! The maths ain’t mathing once again…!

flagpolesitta · 28/03/2026 11:05

I still use mine for job applications..

I guess as long as it works...! and you're not appling for IT/tech jobs 😜

Hotmail allows you to create an Outlook alias for email if you prefer (see Reddit link).

Some poorly designed websites treat hotmail addresses as invalid, but it's just a coding bug (sloppy validation), not a problem with hotmail itself.

I’ve got one that I set up when I was 14 in 1996 😎 it’s [email protected]

AliTheMinx · 28/03/2026 11:20

Yes! I love my hotmail.com email, which I set up at Uni in 1996! No plans to change..

ManyATrueWord · 28/03/2026 11:21

Hotmail is a badge of honour! Had mine since 1997. Maybe people who knew me in the last century will want to contact me again 😂

Thedogswhiskers · 28/03/2026 11:22

i set mine up in 1998 and it includes my birth year which is rather embarrassing in hindsight

coe78 · 28/03/2026 11:23

Lifewontbethesame · 28/03/2026 10:59

Yes, with my full name, no numbers/special characters, I'm that old 🤣

I have an AOL one that is just my initial and surname. It does in fact still exist though I haven't used it since the days of AOL chat rooms. My parents were early adopters of all this stuff so it must have been about 1996, I was 7. My dad was like "you will need an email address in the future mark my words!" and set ones up for me and my then infant brother. Cheers dad 😄

caringcarer · 28/03/2026 11:06

Same. I don't care. I can remember it.

Same. Love it!

DoorOpening · 28/03/2026 11:24

I don’t like to brag, but I would just add that my hotmail.com email address has an underscore between my first and last names.

Cosyblankets · 28/03/2026 11:25

bugalugs45 · 28/03/2026 11:03

Yes , a co.uk one though , my brother still has the original .com from late 90s!

Mine is 7 years old and it's Hotmail.com

Pancakeflipper · 28/03/2026 11:26

I have various emails but Hotmail is my main one. I love it.

It better not become obsolete..

Morepositivemum · 28/03/2026 11:27

yes but I do find lately outlook loading in slower or not loading in on bad internet so it mad made me think about changing. What about my thousands of emails though?!
