Do you still have a ‘Hotmail’ email address

Keep seeing this mentioned on social media in videos or posts about being old 😳🤣
I have no plans to change my email but lots of people saying they hate giving their email address to people and having to say ‘@ hotmail.com’
I didn’t even realise new emails don’t still use this…

OP posts:
Doyouknowdanieltiger · 28/03/2026 18:21

Yep Hotmail.com had it since 2004. My only email address too!

BloodyHellBob · 28/03/2026 18:27

I am so old that it’s my full name and no special characters and also ends in @hotmail.co.ukI’m obviously ancient 😁

MoonWoman69 · 28/03/2026 18:38

My main email address is my full name @hotmail.co.uk. Doesn't bother me one bit to give it out as my email address! I can't see what the issue is!

JackJarvisEsq · 28/03/2026 18:40

Yep, with someone on the Channel Islands who thinks it’s hers 😡

BooBooDoodle · 28/03/2026 18:42

I’ve still got mine. It was the first email I set up and has my childhood dogs name and a random number in it. I do have an iCloud one now in my actual name which is more grown up. Couldn’t imagine schools or the doctors contacting me via my Hotmail one. It is now used for signing up to stuff or when you have to put an email down. Basically a spam folder of sorts.

HaveYouHadYourBreak · 28/03/2026 18:43

I got asked how old I was because my email address is my name! No numbers or random symbols. And yes, it is my name @hotmail. 🤣

HaveYouHadYourBreak · 28/03/2026 18:46

Does anyone remember when hotmail crashed completely for about 48hrs a few years ago? Lots of "old people" freaking out and them there youngsters joking about emails in the 1990s. 🤣

Lifewontbethesame · 28/03/2026 10:59

Yes, with my full name, no numbers/special characters, I'm that old 🤣

Joining the club.

No but I have an AOL one still. I don’t use it for anything important now as I have gmail for that but it’s handy for mailing lists or online accounts for sites if I don’t want to see tons of emails with whatever offers are on.

It also starts with a capital letter and when I got it, if someone used the lower case letter instead then I didn’t get the email, it really did make a difference back in the day. I don’t know if it still does it at times as I have had recent emails to that account go missing (another reason I use my gmail for anything important).

Beachtastic · 28/03/2026 18:53

I've just realised I've been talking out of my arse looking down on hotmail. I just associate it with social accounts rather than business. But that's because I have my own domain name for work stuff, so my email is [email protected] (or something along those lines)! I now realise what a snob I am being 🫣

...but AOL and ntworld do seem rather obsolete now. I used to have those years ago, but it all got very complicated when they changed hands - especially ntlworld: Virgin seemed to tack it on as an afterthought, and were very lackadaisical about outages.

shuddacuddadidnt · 28/03/2026 18:58

Yes, middle name only @.co.uk
But that's only for people I know, as I use 'hide my email' all the time for shopping, new websites etc even tho I'm very old.

wellstopdoingitthen · 28/03/2026 19:01

Typtoe · 28/03/2026 11:01

Yes although I have multiple email addresses to take advantage of free trials but my main one of my hotmail one I created probably 25 years ago!

Its just my name and year of birth. I'm perfectly happy to be the age that I am and if hotmail didn't give that away, my year of birth would anyway!

I use ‘hide my email ‘ option for free trials etc. very useful function.

I’m also old with a Hotmail.com account 🤷‍♀️

DoorOpening · 28/03/2026 11:24

I don’t like to brag, but I would just add that my hotmail.com email address has an underscore between my first and last names.

As does mine. And all my children down to my 20 year old have Hotmail.com emails

SerendipityJane · 28/03/2026 19:09

I wonder how many - if any - retailers use customers email addresses to target marketing ?

StolenTeapots · 28/03/2026 19:18

NormasArse · 28/03/2026 11:00

Me too! Set up in, I think 2001?

I have my first name. No other characters! I got in fast with making it!

Femalemachinest · 28/03/2026 19:32

I still have msn.com 😂

JackJarvisEsq · 28/03/2026 19:42

My MIL still has an fsnet one I’m sure

CountryMouse22 · 28/03/2026 19:43

Beachtastic · 28/03/2026 11:58

No, treasure it as a vintage item! Just don't apply for any IT jobs 🫣😁

That's OK then, I won't be applying for any jobs, IT or otherwise!

MrsResponder · 28/03/2026 19:47

Lifewontbethesame · 28/03/2026 10:59

Yes, with my full name, no numbers/special characters, I'm that old 🤣

Same! I remember feeling so very cutting edge getting it in an Internet cafe too.

SabrinaThwaite · 28/03/2026 19:48

The PILs still have a netscape.net account.

GreyfriarsJobbies · 28/03/2026 19:55

flagpolesitta · 28/03/2026 12:24

why is it unprofessional?

It's not, that's just people who've watched too much of the Apprentice and who you wouldn't want to get sat next to at a wedding talking absolute bollocks. I've had the same [email protected] email address as my main (and basically only) non-work one since the turn of the century and I seem to have done alright as a corporate lawyer.

RantyRant3555 · 28/03/2026 20:05

Yep first last .com Hotmail. I remember when I set it up it offered you variations of your name for the address. My name isn’t easy to spell so in some ways quite useful because if they have my name correct it’s easy just to copy over.

OhMyMirror · 28/03/2026 20:19

Mine is so old its @hotmail.co.uk 😂 I've had the same Ebay account for 23 years as well (using that email)

Xsunshinelollipopsx · 28/03/2026 20:31

I’m a Hotmail.com OG and its and underscore to my maiden name and age from when I set it up!
my dad still has his first and only mobile phone number, he had to add a 7 a while back

SeriousTissues · 28/03/2026 20:54

Beachtastic · 28/03/2026 11:03

It's not quite as bad as an AOL email address, which I actually saw recently!

Who cares, as long as it works. But not for job applications 😬

I have an AOL email address!!
