Do you still have a ‘Hotmail’ email address

Keep seeing this mentioned on social media in videos or posts about being old 😳🤣
I have no plans to change my email but lots of people saying they hate giving their email address to people and having to say ‘@ hotmail.com’
I didn’t even realise new emails don’t still use this…

Yes, with my full name, no numbers/special characters, I'm that old 🤣

Me too.
I like it.

I got mine in 1996. It's still "live", as in receiving things I can't be arsed to unsubscribe from. However I'm not keen on being in thrall to someone elses services. A lot of people have come unstuck relying on 3rd party email providers.

Oh no, really?? What’s the alternative? Genuine question. I’ve got hotmail.com

Yes plus Outlook plus google

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/03/2026 10:57

I had no idea it was an issue

StripedPillowcase · 29/03/2026 11:47

@Mumtobabyhavoc You can use named folders rather than labels in Gmail and file everything neatly away.

If you don't own the domain (the bit after the "@") then you are at the mercy of whoever does. They are under no obligation to continue subsidising you, and can either start charging for the privilege or worse still just stop doing it.

I can't see hotmail disappearing to be fair. But it will be reading all your emails to train MS "AI". Just as long as you know.

I got a domain under my grown-up name so [email protected] is what my professional face looks like. The nice thing about this is you can create as many email addresses as you like. So [email protected], [email protected] etc. And that makes it trivial to see who has lied and sold my data without permission. (Which is currently 100% of companies over 15 years).

I used a fake hotmail account to sign up to X and Facebook and LinkedIn when they all started. And that account is still live and active. So you can know that at least one "user" on those platforms is fake.

cornflakecrunchie · 29/03/2026 13:03

Still got a couple of hotmail addresses, bit of a nightmare though, sometimes problems signing in, seem to attract lots of spam too. I've got a gmail account, HATE it, only used it once or twice, can't stand how it's laid out.
Decided to look for another & PAY for it, it's negligible. It's secure & I can depend on it.

cornflakecrunchie · 29/03/2026 13:04

Used to have an Opera & an Orange account too, now deceased!

ImogenBrocklehurst · 29/03/2026 13:26

Hotmail.co.uk, thank you very much!

Jaybail · 29/03/2026 13:40

No one needs my email address to know I am old. A working pair of eyes will tell them! And so what? My age, my email address, my weight, my shoe size, my sexual orientation etc etc don't define me, I define me. I don't concern myself with how that makes me look to other people.

MildlyAnnoyed · 29/03/2026 14:03

I didn’t know we weren’t supposed to! I have a ‘fullname’@hotmail.com email address & I have no intention to change it 🤣

Tell me you have never worked in marketing without telling me you have never worked in marketing 😀

Anyone got a blueyonder email address?

My dad does! It’s still his primary email :)

lingmerth · 29/03/2026 14:48

@TheBirdintheCave it’s mine too! Bet we’re a similar age 😂

lingmerth · 29/03/2026 14:51

@JaceLancsinteresting. I’m in your age bracket!

GoldenCupsatHarvestTime · 29/03/2026 14:52

Yes I do. I don’t particularly care.. I’m only 30. I have 3 outlook, 3 gmails, hotmail and my work and university emails.

Huxhux · 29/03/2026 17:19

I still have an msn.com email - no plans to change it anytime!

CountryMouse22 · 29/03/2026 18:36

Do you think AOL will ever withdraw support from the emails facility? I wouldn't know what do!

Edited

One presumes someone, somewhere is making money from it.

I'll leave it to others to work out how.

I can't seem to figure that out. 😵‍💫

Imalittleelf · 29/03/2026 19:08

Yup same one I set up at age 15.... I am over 40 🤣

DecoratingDiva · 29/03/2026 19:12

I have one that pre-dates Hotmail!

Others have come & gone but I’m still using my original 🤣🤣

Runnersandtoms · 29/03/2026 19:12

Mine is the one I set up in 1998 after getting my first ever email address in 1997 which was my uni one. I wouldn't change it because literally everything in my life is linked to it. And I still have emails saved which were between me and DH when we were engaged and I was abroad for months at a time. 😍
I have several other email addresses too including gmail but they aren't my main one.

Jok77 · 29/03/2026 19:13

I have a hotmail.co.uk address- don't use it often but still there. Hubby has an AOL address that he's used for donkeys years!

DaisyOzzy13 · 29/03/2026 19:15

Full maiden name.co.uk had it since 2002. Use it daily and its linked to everything. Have no plans to change it
