Just a general lighthearted one. Not aibu. Tell us something surprising, shocking, gripping or funny about someone you know personally , or an experience you had , or a famous person. Without giving anything away.
I've said this one before but....I know a very very well loved tv actor who is absolutely vile IRL. Im not going to out him but your jaw would drop if you knew..
Also I once lived in a place where a woman and her husband were upstanding members of the community, prominant locally, liked being respected, true blue types. They loved pronouncing on who was right and who was wrong in all situations. One day she told me conspiratorially and with great glee that they thought they'd been shafted financially by a local business bloke, so one night they put sugar in his petrol tank and slashed two of his tyres. I was young at the time and completely shocked.
Finally, in the C of E church in my old village where I grew up there were a bunch of smiley 'upstanding 'regular churchgoers who didnt like the new , slightly happy clappy vicar . He waa modern, and kind and seemed to care about the poorer people in the village . Rather like you'd imagine Jesus might have done. So the nice upatanding churchgoing regulars orchestrated a smear campaign against him and didn't stop until they'd made sure the vicar had had a breakdown and hadcto keave his post. It was.such a lovely, kindly village .🤣

I wish more people knew so that my situation could be helped but...

My black bin needs to go out for morning collection but I'm currently lying with a very awake, poorly toddler! Worried I'm going to fall asleep and BOOM - miss the bin man.

I know that a close family member jumped before they were pushed from an old job because of unethical (but not quite illegal) things they did

I know the financial and personal details of most of my extended family & my parents friends. They're all clients at my work.

I know who is loaded & who is not. I know my DB, who everyone thinks is brilliant for taking on a huge investment strategy - is actually desperate because they have nothing but debt & can never retire unless they do something drastic. I just learned the real, very long name of my relative's wife. That none of us knew!!

I'd never reveal anything, not even if people are clients, but I am constantly shocked by how far off the truth people are about what others have.

My dad had a similar thing in his line of work years ago........ coming into contact with people who boasted about things to do with their business ( usually inflating their wealth.and level of success ) when my dad knew it was a load of rubbish. He was amazed at the front of some of them

I know a US actor who came over to our town for an event and while there send one of his team out to get drugs, the team member returned within the hour with a wide selection of drugs. I’ve lived in this town for over 30 years and wouldn’t have the first idea where to get drugs from. I still wish I asked them how do you do that, they all live in the US and had never visited this town before. Is there some kind of network you can tap into to? Not that I want to buy drugs, it just intrigues me how it works

I've been there @Nervousb2b.

I'd offer to put your bins out for you, but don't live close enough. Thanks

No poorly toddler but I forgot to put the bin out before getting in the shower. It has been non stop bucketing it down and windy since about 11am yesterday morning. That nice weather we had yesterday last week with the sun peeping out was just to tease us. Making us think we’ve got warmer weather coming when we’ve not.

I used to be well connected in that area and when a very well known (internationally) singer came to my city, I was asked if I could help out and would be able to join them all and meet him, etc. the most bizarre part is, this singer was/is in his 80’s!!
I have so many (true) stories about celebrities and have lived a very full and crazy life, but a lot of my friends think I’m exaggerating the truth but it’s all true! 😂

GarlicFound · 13/03/2026 04:23

I wouldn't dream of encouraging you to tell more of your stories, @Plasticdreams ...

FantasyFoodhall · 13/03/2026 04:23

I want to know more about the vile TV actor!
I know that my DH has a large stash of mini eggs in his desk drawer. He doesn’t know that I know, but I worry he knows that I have a 6 pack of Crunchies in my desk drawer!

For data protection reasons, your company should limit the security access of people who can access financial and personal details of clients to those who need to know. Unless you are actively managing your family/friends' accounts, you have no business snooping around their details even if you have access.

This is poor procedural safeguards on the part of your company and poor behaviour on your part.

Amazing how the attitude to drugs has changed to the extent that this is regarded as a titillating story rather than a source of shock and regret that drugs are just so.prevelant and " normal" now.

Actually this is quite an unpleasant thread.

GarlicFound · 13/03/2026 04:28

Financial adviser or accountant. Does it make a difference?

What business does she have to access the accounts of clients that she is not personally servicing in order to snoop on their sensitive financial details.

I doubt you would be happy for any NHS employee (who could be your nosy neighbour or relative) to access your medical records just because the NHS happened to give the employee access due to their poor security access framework. There are data protection laws which apply to prevent these situations.

AmandaBrotzman · 13/03/2026 04:54

I know that two different people in my life cheated on their very long term partners now spouses when they were very young - everyone involved is now mid to late 40s and very happily married. I usually try to forget that I know this and would never tell anyone but this thread has reminded me of this bit of knowledge 😳

ThePerfectWeekender · 13/03/2026 04:57

This happened over thirty years ago. My best friend was seing a then friend of mine. I haven't spoken to him since I found out. He cheated on BF with her 'D'Sis.
He went on to become a very famous household name as a chef, practically a national treasure.
When I see him on TV I want to scream. He's also lied about his early career and training. I was good friends with him for years and was there for all this. I dropped him after what he did to BF, who I'm still close to.
I can't bear her sister either. She's cheated on every long term partner since.
