Just a general lighthearted one. Not aibu. Tell us something surprising, shocking, gripping or funny about someone you know personally , or an experience you had , or a famous person. Without giving anything away.
I've said this one before but....I know a very very well loved tv actor who is absolutely vile IRL. Im not going to out him but your jaw would drop if you knew..
Also I once lived in a place where a woman and her husband were upstanding members of the community, prominant locally, liked being respected, true blue types. They loved pronouncing on who was right and who was wrong in all situations. One day she told me conspiratorially and with great glee that they thought they'd been shafted financially by a local business bloke, so one night they put sugar in his petrol tank and slashed two of his tyres. I was young at the time and completely shocked.
Finally, in the C of E church in my old village where I grew up there were a bunch of smiley 'upstanding 'regular churchgoers who didnt like the new , slightly happy clappy vicar . He waa modern, and kind and seemed to care about the poorer people in the village . Rather like you'd imagine Jesus might have done. So the nice upatanding churchgoing regulars orchestrated a smear campaign against him and didn't stop until they'd made sure the vicar had had a breakdown and hadcto keave his post. It was.such a lovely, kindly village .🤣

That's a bit of an awkward situation for you then poster. Think i'd feel a bit uncomfortable around them after finding out that, and wouldnt be good at hiding it.

@Daygloboo it did shock me a bit when I found out

NotAnotherScarf · 13/03/2026 09:03

The problem is people tell me secrets... but I am bloody awful and can't keep them!!!

I don't have the guts to say "don't tell me I'll tell the world"

ainsleysanob · 13/03/2026 09:09

I know that the lad who I work with, who is due to get married in two months tried to shag the admin girl several times before she left, I know exactly what he was writing in his texts to her and I also know that he’s approx 60k in debt to his stepdad and 10k in debt to his (and my) friend. I always give him a beautiful smile when he’s talking about his idyllic home life and tries to give younger members of our team sanctimonious financial advice!

That's absolutely appalling and I'm not sure why you've used the laughing emoji!

I imagine to indicate the sarcasm of the last sentence? Personally I'd have used a grimace emoji, but really?!

FancyNavyHare · 13/03/2026 09:15

I was going to keep my OP vague but seeing as people are discussing the same subject, I'll just share it. A family member that was in the police was found to be accessing people's records/personal info and resigned before getting sacked. It had spanned since they joined and went on for over 10 years. I'm not defending what they did either, it is wrong and they may well have even searched me up (although they wouldn't have found much). Who knows. I imagine it's quite common.

One of my former colleagues was caught having sex in the office with a married colleague, the week before her wedding. Another colleague caught them in flagrante delicto on a desk. He told me after the wedding.

Ponoka7 · 13/03/2026 07:14

@Bitsandbobs2 so you all stayed quiet over the sexual abuse of children?

Receptionist was concerned and asked their ID, however, I can tell you how many people coming for work interview with someone's passport, never mind prostitutes.
Manegement couldn't deny them entry because they "believed " their passports were fake.
Sadly it happens very often at 5*. Even if manager on duty has concerns- they will be silenced by higher management, no one wants to loose VIP guest paying £5k per night.
Staff rotation at night shift was very high for this. Because these kind of people don't come at the day....

I want to know more about the vile TV actor!
I know that my DH has a large stash of mini eggs in his desk drawer. He doesn’t know that I know, but I worry he knows that I have a 6 pack of Crunchies in my desk drawer!

😂😂

hmmm....mick jagger ?

I don’t know what I can get away with saying on here but he’s Welsh. I better not say anymore than that.

muddyford · 13/03/2026 09:26

A close relation of DH told everyone her marriage broke up because of her husband. Her husband told another relation (who told me) it was because he had found her in bed with her friend 'Liz'. DH doesn't know.

I think ppl like that just ' know ' people. I think they have dodgy types in their entourage who just know where to go from experience

Russell Brand said he always went to a homeless person to ask where to find drugs.

Plasticdreams · 13/03/2026 09:30

RupertTheBlackCat · 13/03/2026 07:34

Something very similar happened in a church in the south east. Their new vicar was gay (this was about 20 years ago) and some in the congregation sent him threatening hate mail. He had a breakdown.

No smilies here....

Similar happened in our church. People were awful to the last vicar. They’re the same people that voted UKIP. Says it all.
Not very Christian hey

Those types of people put me off going to church. I figure you can be much more Christian in your everyday behaviours

whatnext26 · 13/03/2026 09:41

Not too exciting but I know that my holier than thou, squeaky clean SIL had a fling with a much older married man years ago.
I like to remind myself of her dirty secret whenever she is perched on her moral high horse, looking down her nose at me or dishing out patronising advice or devaluing me and DH.
She would DIE if she knew that I know!!

Have you ever been tempted to ‘reduce’ the stash of mini eggs? Not as obvious as knicking a crunchy

Financial adviser or accountant. Does it make a difference?

What business does she have to access the accounts of clients that she is not personally servicing in order to snoop on their sensitive financial details.

I doubt you would be happy for any NHS employee (who could be your nosy neighbour or relative) to access your medical records just because the NHS happened to give the employee access due to their poor security access framework. There are data protection laws which apply to prevent these situations.

I agree, but that is because I work in a Government department and have always been told that accessing any family or friends records would result in disciplinary action, and pretty much guaranteed to be sacked. I get that other financial authorities would be different but I wouldn't even look once I saw a name and I knew them out of respect, especially family members!!

Ncforthis2267 · 13/03/2026 09:46

Bored at work I had a dig around shared drives on the intranet. Stumbled upon the staff contracts folder which inexplicably had been set to open access.

I now know the exact salary and package of all my colleagues and senior staff. Shocked at some of the extras negotiated by colleagues I thought were earning the same as me. It will be very useful info come negotiation time!

No poorly toddler but I forgot to put the bin out before getting in the shower. It has been non stop bucketing it down and windy since about 11am yesterday morning. That nice weather we had yesterday last week with the sun peeping out was just to tease us. Making us think we’ve got warmer weather coming when we’ve not.

No, it's coming. It is !!!!

Actually I've just remembered she checked our aunty's also when she was waiting for a diagnosis on something, she did ask her to check because she didn't want to wait for the letter but yeah, she could see hers too.

You CAN see them but you SHOULDN'T look. In the NHS you can be disciplined for looking at records you don't have a work reason to access.

My friend had a fling with a still-famous pop star from the 1980s a few years ago so now I know that he really likes giving oral sex more than anything else. Every time I see him on TV I can't help but think of it.
