Is something about to happen?

I’m a fairly anxious person, so it could be that, but I keep seeing on different Sm planforms, people saying it feels like similar to before covid lockdown and that something is about to happen.

Does anyone else feel this?

Are you fucking serious?

No other options are there?? Once you’ve started something like this, there really is no going back.

I get what OP is saying. It's that sense of the world order being seriously off kilter. I would said 'again' but this time it feels more dangerous because of Trump. It terrifies me that someone so obviously demented has the nuke codes and is bombing indiscriminately and illegally.

In terms of what happens on our shores, I think we'll initially feel it most in our pockets, as it seems likely to ramp up the cost of living crisis again.

If China steps in to support Iran, god only knows.

Yes that’s it

Remember that social media operates algorithms, if you view one post it’ll automatically show you more of the same. This gives you a very false perception of reality.
If you suffer from anxiety, do yourself the biggest favour and step away from social media, at least for a while. Try to connect with the real world instead. Using the time you would have spent scrolling to go out for a walk, or chat to someone, bake something, do a meditation exercise. Just ground yourself a little.
There has always been disruption and distress in the world and there always will be, you are just immersing yourself in it online right now so it seems more.

At one point we thought we were going to die in a nuclear holocaust of Reagan - Thatcher's making. Middle East wars meant increased petrol prices and instability. I was close to where an IRA bomb exploded and felt the pavement drop away from me. My parents watched JFK warn the world about the Cuban Missile Crisis and thought it was the end. My grandparents thought the invasion of France in 1940 thought that Britain was next and there was no hope.
Carry on with your life, care for your loved ones, do your best with your children.
Try to enjoy the life you have.

bafta16 · 09/03/2026 17:59

@DelectableMe Good point and very good advice. I think people in WW2 did carry on with life. They weren't burdened with SM and also faith played a part.

Yes. and interestingly, the suicide rate actually went down in WW2. I was reading that after eight nights of continuous bombing of London, people still got up to go to work each day.
Absenteeism was very low.

Only an absolute madman (or two) could have started an open war with Iran and it's not going to end well at all. USA couldn't even win in Afghanistan/Iraq and left an utter mess behind. Iran is an infinitely stronger opponent.

France joining the war is not a good sign. We are sleepwalking into WWIII.

Well, I think Donald Trump can kiss goodbye to a Nobel Peace Prize now.

I am angry with Trump and Netanyahu. This Iran war is illegal and unnecessary.

Are you equally angry with the Iranian Islamic regime? Sponsoring terrorism, massacring its own people? does the desire to comity genocide not matter if the victims are Jewish?

Is there a genocide going on which is targeting Jewish people? I must have missed that.

Not really. Are you going to start a war with all countries whose leadership you don't like? I'm afraid, in that case, USA and Israel would be top of my list. And I'm Jewish.

Or are wars only started with countries whose leadership we don't like and that have oil & gas reserves? Or those that we perceive as weak (which in Iran's case is a HUGE mistake)?

IncessantNameChanger · 09/03/2026 18:49

My immediate worry is my house sale going through and my new mortgage.

Apart from that I avoid the news and try to enjoy my life. WW3 will go ahead weather I worry about it or not so why worry? Turn off the news. I have a high level grasp of the situation. I don't need rolling news.

XelaM · 09/03/2026 18:54

Also just to add @Wellthisisdifficult Saudi Arabia is equally (if not more) behind terrorism financing - yet they are the friends of the West.

This is a prayer. If you have no faith Omit God at the start and the "as Jesus did" towards the end. It's still a very useful way to look at the world. Repeat daily when you get up.

"God, grant me the serenity To accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, And the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, Enjoying one moment at a time, Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace. Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, Not as I would have it."

And what about people who do mobile jobs that involve driving?

Do I look like a secretary of state for solving all problems to you? I just pointed out a logical sequence.

No other choice now. It’s started, so has to be finished. There’s no going back. Whether we agree with it or not.

Most people in GB don't agree with it. I hope we continue to stay out of it.

Maia77 · 09/03/2026 20:28

It’s worrying because Iran sits next to the Strait of Hormuz, where a big chunk of the world’s oil passes through, so any fighting there could push energy prices up everywhere very quickly. Unlike wars like Afghanistan, the economic impact would be global almost straight away. There’s also the risk it could pull in other countries through Iran’s allies. So even if the war stays regional, the knock-on effects could hit the whole world.
