Is something about to happen?

I’m a fairly anxious person, so it could be that, but I keep seeing on different Sm planforms, people saying it feels like similar to before covid lockdown and that something is about to happen.

Does anyone else feel this?

OP, do you have a job, what do you do with your time? I find that being busy is the best antidote to anxiety.

Canyoumakecoffeeinamicrowave · 09/03/2026 12:23

No of course not, not a lockdown, but a similar feeling that something is about to happen-what, I don’t know

Things are always happening, or about to happen . Ukraine, Gaza, Iran, at any time during the last four years any of these could have erupted and involved more countries and people. Global warming, floods, hurricanes, storms, forest fires, again things all over the world but with similar outcomes.

We hear about awful things all the time because news gathering and information sharing is instant, in glorious technicolour and it is almost impossible to ignore. The only thing we have control of is our own reaction to news events, having anxiety doesn’t help, but you need to work on rationalising your fears and feelings, or as others have said, try to stop reading about them.

No. There's a lot of hysteria about this war. Outside of Iran, the damage has been minimal. Every death is tragic, but more people have probably died in car crashes in the affected areas outside of Iran since this started.

Edit: I should have said Iran and Lebanon.

Take a look at the Al Jazeera news website. If anything UK press is under-reporting how serious it is. The strike on a desalination plant is particularly concerning.

Are you fucking serious?

Erm I don’t think they were

noidea69 · 09/03/2026 16:32

Delete all your soical media.

bafta16 · 09/03/2026 16:43

@Womaninhouse17 , I am anxious but I keep busy and don't listen to nonsense.

I am getting scared. Our minds were messed with Covid, Ukraine caused a fuel crisis, this will make prices rise. I hope I don't petty because of course it's hideous what is happening to people in war zones.

Teleo · 09/03/2026 16:46

Your feed deals you more of what you watch, if you watch a couple of conspiracy nuts, your whole feed is going to end up looking like that.

You struggle with anxiety so keep away from SM or use it productively and not related to these type of topics, for recipes ideas or whatever and get your news from MSM.

The price of oil is sky rocketing and I’ve started to see reports in the news that Brits are being urged to drive less. But apart from that I haven’t seen much.

The advice to drive less and 'only go somewhere in the car if it's necessary' makes me roll my eyes into the back of my head.

Yeah sure, when petrol is £2.50 to £3.00 a litre, I will be tootling around the mountain roads in Snowdonia, and taking 3 day trips to the coast 3 times a week!

FFS, do they think we're all stupid?! Hmm Of course people are going to cut down on driving as much as they can if the price of petrol doubles - or trebles!

Oblivionnnnn · 09/03/2026 16:56

Actually that’s not strictly true about people driving less. Petrol demand is pretty much inelastic economically; people will keep paying whatever it costs until they physically can’t.

Necessity/convenience makes it so.

bafta16 · 09/03/2026 15:33

Yes, I feel as I did in Covid. My world will shrink.

I heard Lord Richards speaking today. There is no end game, there is no plan.

What do you mean?

OP posts:
bafta16 · 09/03/2026 17:17

@Canyoumakecoffeeinamicrowave I just feel as if I will retreat. I think this will impact all of us.We are fools if we think it's just in some far off land.

I am of an age where I can retreat. i feel sorry for struggling families.
Oh and I'm not a rich boomer before anybody jumps.

AgnesX · 09/03/2026 17:18

No more than usual given the present shenanigans in the ME and the rest of the world.

Life has a tendency to trundle on for the majority of people so focus on what's going on in your immediate surroundings and stay away from the socials and the news. There's no point in worrying about what you have no control over.

Yes, something is definitely about to happen.

Something also happened last week.

And the week before.

Not to mention the week before that.

Passingthrough123 · 09/03/2026 17:21

I get what OP is saying. It's that sense of the world order being seriously off kilter. I would said 'again' but this time it feels more dangerous because of Trump. It terrifies me that someone so obviously demented has the nuke codes and is bombing indiscriminately and illegally.

In terms of what happens on our shores, I think we'll initially feel it most in our pockets, as it seems likely to ramp up the cost of living crisis again.

If China steps in to support Iran, god only knows.

Canyoumakecoffeeinamicrowave · 09/03/2026 17:22

Womaninhouse17 · 09/03/2026 15:53

I agree. I don't panic about every little thing or believe conspiracy theories. But the America/Iran thing is serious and could affect us badly, even if it's only petrol prices going up or fuel shortages. I think this is a dangerous time with stubborn, reckless men squaring up to each other.

I feel this too, also a very odd time with the Epstein files etc

I'm at the age where I understand that bad shit happens all the bloody time. You sound like your anxiety is affecting your day to day functioning. I'd strongly suggest you speak to your GP in addition to arranging some talking therapy.

Talking therapies

Find out how to access free talking therapies (psychological therapies) like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), counselling and guided self-help on the NHS.

I love your and PP confidence that OPs GP will give a fuck that she’s worried about war and treat it. The “war” will probably be over before she gets through on the phone to make an appointment

Yes, I’m probably going to come off on MN like I did during Covid due to absolute shitposting like this.

Definitely. Just carpet bomb the entire Iranian population into submission, so no one left to fire back, as Trump has already said.
That way, nobody will be hysterical except Iranians.

Well the USA elected a corrupt, mentally and educationally defective criminal for President and he's just started an illegal war in the middle east which is spreading regionally, with no clue what he's doing or why and no exit strategy, so if you weren't worried you wouldn't be paying attention..

No other choice now. It’s started, so has to be finished. There’s no going back. Whether we agree with it or not.
