Is something about to happen?

I’m a fairly anxious person, so it could be that, but I keep seeing on different Sm planforms, people saying it feels like similar to before covid lockdown and that something is about to happen.

Does anyone else feel this?

No of course not, not a lockdown, but a similar feeling that something is about to happen-what, I don’t know

I saw a Chinese man sneezing, if that helps to narrow it down. I've stocked up on tomato soup and toilet rolls.

Pistachiocake · 09/03/2026 15:13

If there is a fuel crisis (those of us over 35 will remember the pumps running dry in 2000) that will affect some people more than others. A lot more wfh, or at least could do, these days. Those of us who actually need to drive, if we have family who need to regularly travel a long way for medical care (certain things are only available in Manchester), or other serious reasons to drive, would have more problems.
More likely, we'll CAUSE issues around supply by behaving like lemmings and buying stupid amounts of things we never actually use, like the guy who still has excess toilet roll and hand gel from 2020.

Agree- plus the difference between 2000 and 2022 is there is a current oversupply of oil to the market. Saudi storage is full, so they have halted production. People won’t buy at $100 a barrel unless they have no choice, it’s like anything.

Get off social media OP. The algorithm is feeding you what it thinks you want.

MrsVBS · 09/03/2026 15:21

Nothing is about to happen and whilst events are dreadful in the world and not to minimise them, the media don’t help by using dramatic headlines and warnings. Stop looking at the news so much if it worries you and don’t look at stories on social media where Karen’s aunts boyfriend knows someone who says somethings going to happen. If you’re anxious or a worrier it’s the worst thing you can do.

InconvenientlyMaterial · 09/03/2026 15:29

The world is full of terrible things happening already.

The way I see it, if you are lucky enough not to be personally affected today, then feel grateful for that. Look around you at all the good things in your life.

If you have anxious energy to expend, there are plenty of people worldwide and in the UK who could use your compassion in terms of kindness, volunteering or money.

Madeawish · 09/03/2026 15:29

I have days where the atmosphere feels as though it is signalling impending doom.
I've had days like that since childhood.
I can't really explain it. It's just like the world "doesn't feel right".
Most times it was just a weird feeling and nothing happened, but it was very unsettling.

Yes, I feel as I did in Covid. My world will shrink.

I heard Lord Richards speaking today. There is no end game, there is no plan.

No. Sun has come out. Could be that miracle.

Where are you that the sun has actually appeared? 🧐

Dearover · 09/03/2026 15:36

Step away from Tiktok, X etc. Life changing

No. There's a lot of hysteria about this war. Outside of Iran, the damage has been minimal. Every death is tragic, but more people have probably died in car crashes in the affected areas outside of Iran since this started.

Edit: I should have said Iran and Lebanon.

Edited

Disagree. I have Iranian friends. It's terrifying. The whole area is highly volatile.

Thousands and thousands of refugees.

I’m Xennial

Misses the point..... but what the heck is a 'xennial' ??

Pedallleur · 09/03/2026 13:12

Something somewhere is always about to happen/is happening/has happened but there is a very good chance whatever it is/was won't affect you/me

It will affect people. Wake up. When fuel proces go up, everything goes up. Every single thing.

Labelledelune · 09/03/2026 15:52

ThatFairy · 09/03/2026 14:01

I don't think we should just wash OP clear of sensible insight. What if Iran hits us with a missile ? I read they have ICBMs

im not afraid of that threat, I’m more afraid of inside terror attacks.

Someone who is on the gen x and millennial threshold.

Livelovebehappy · 09/03/2026 15:52

This is why Trump and Israel need to ramp up the attacks so it can be over and done with. The longer this goes on for, the more hysteria there's going to be around what's happening and for potential impact on the rest of the world.

I agree. I don't panic about every little thing or believe conspiracy theories. But the America/Iran thing is serious and could affect us badly, even if it's only petrol prices going up or fuel shortages. I think this is a dangerous time with stubborn, reckless men squaring up to each other.

We’ve always had various wars. Best to just get on with life. Worrying doesn’t change a thing - life will do as it does.

Definitely. Just carpet bomb the entire Iranian population into submission, so no one left to fire back, as Trump has already said.
That way, nobody will be hysterical except Iranians.

Aliceisagooddog · 09/03/2026 15:55

Yes, I feel like the early covid days too. Not just the awful genocides in Iran, Lebanon and Palestine, but the massive knock on economic affects. Scary times.

Slowdownyouredoingfine · 09/03/2026 15:55

I actually agree with you OP, my senses have been tingling too. Tbf they have before and nothing happened so I’m certainly not mystic meg. I think the USA getting involved in bombing another country is uncomfortable for the UK, given we are one of their closest allies. Feels a bit to close for comfort…

Are you fucking serious?

Muffinmam · 09/03/2026 16:09

It’s highly likely people in my city are going to stockpile toilet paper.

I’m not going to stockpile fuel because it isn’t safe to store it.

If I can’t buy fuel I will just walk and bring a cart to my local shops.

There has been a recent train derailment so some products aren’t on the shelves. I absolutely refuse stockpile again.

Trump will be gone before the end of January 2029. The way I look at it is (until then) I’m going to be spending ridiculous amounts of money on fuel and everything will be more expensive at the shops.

However, the people of Iran are dying in the streets. World heritage sites are being destroyed. It will get to the point where the people of Iran won’t have food, shelter or clean water. They won’t have access to live saving medications. Plumbing systems will be destroyed and disease will spread. It will get to the point where children will either die of starvation or be orphaned.

My city already has a lot of Iranian people here. I expect that more will settle here due to the war. These people will be utterly broken due to trauma. There will be social problems because we don’t have enough housing. There will be mental health problems because we don’t have the public health systems in place for the population we currently have.

The absolute evil that is happening in Iran will leave its stain on generations.

I get that you are concerned for yourself. But things haven’t even begun to get difficult. Trump said he will continue until the entire Iranian government is gone.

We need to start having a conversation about what the US has done to Yemen, to Syria, to Iraq and to Libya.

But no doubt the topics on mumsnet will be “should I move to Dubai for hubby’s job?” or “my husband is rich - AMA!” Literally that is the tone of most of the discussions here.

Yes, I’m probably going to come off on MN like I did during Covid due to absolute shitposting like this.
