To not understand why fly tipping is happening on such a large scale?

If you have a car, surely you can just go to the dump? I mean, it's free 🤷‍♀️

Why is flytipping on an industrial scale happening, what has changed to cause this to happen? Have industrial sites been shut down?

Genuinely don't get it, just seen it on the news

There’s no excuse nowadays -we have a night vision camera for spotting foxes, deer etc in the garden, no reason cameras can’t be put at road junctions or near dumping blackspots to catch number plates - farmers could have a camera like a doorbell camera that lets them know when a vehicle is where it shouldn’t be - I don’t understand this helplessness

The issue is complicated. Firstly, the Tories cut council funding hugely, so enforcement and investigation has been removed.

And do you naively imagine the number plates would be real? It is not regular vehicle owners doing this.

Apparently the land ownership is often complex.

Because most of it is "on an industrial scale" and you can only rock up at the tip (with an appointment here) with a car for domestic waste, and not on a regular basis, for obvious reasons.

Most fly tipping is done by people who have been paid to take away the waste - always check the licence of anyone who takes yours.

When I had some old furniture and stuff that I wanted taken away, I asked to check the waste carrier's licence. He told me that I was the first person who'd ever checked and he'd had his own firm for over 5 years.

For big electricals, if you buy from John Lewis, they will take away the old items for a very small charge. That's one of the reasons I got my last washing machine and freezer from them, there's no way I could have got those to the tip on my own. And they charged the same as Currys for the appliances.

Our council actually admitted the new way overall costs money…

However, the fly tipping budget is a different budget to the bins budget so apparently that means it has to work like this 🙄

I firmly believe the next council elections are going to be fought entirely on this issue here.

The district/borough councils collect the rubbish, but the county councils are responsible for disposing of it. Bloody bonkers, imo.

That would at least add a layer of sense to it.

But nope, just different department budgets of the same council.

There is a recycling centre on my road, I have watched people living on one of the side road, wlak down a mattress and bed parts and dump it on the corner. They coukd easily walk it 300yards more to the tip where you can recycle those items. It’s laziness clearly in this instance as there is just no excuse...there is never a good one quite frankly.

I think people who do it genuinely do not care about our environment and making it a nice place to live in for everyone, its out of sight out of mind for them because they wouldn't take it home and dump it outside their own house would they.

Do they let people walk into the tip to dispose of stuff? Forbidden at ours
