Am not usually one to post these kinds of threads but this is so sad. I've loved her since childhood and am currently in the middle of a Schitt's Creek binge to take my mind off the usual winter bugs. She was such a fantastic actress and so, so funny.

Well, I was chatting to DS17 and his friend, when the sky news alert popped up on my phone, I glanced down, saw it and, as the shock hit, burst into tears…. It would sound ridiculous, but it’s not, seeing you guys on here, and X, and everywhere- so many of us are shocked by her death.
I was randomly watching Pain Hustlers earlier, before the news, and saying to my DS how I literally love her in anything, love seeing her in interviews, awards ceremonies, anything, she genuinely looks like someone you would love to hang out with.

But, Schitts Creek got me through lockdown.. it was literally on repeat on my kitchen TV.. DH used to scream out “ if I hear that trombone one more time!!!!”, and went my BF died three years ago.. she loved it, too. We could get Moira-isms into any chat! My car has an “Ewwww David” sticker on the back, and I’ve got signed SC stuff and book… sad but not really ( heady days of eBay in lockdown 🙄😹!) watching it got me through a lot, and the SC story is really cool…. and the documentary. She just seemed so adorable. I can’t see my watching the last episode of SC anytime soon… it was hard enough before tonight.

Let’s hope for a Danny Boy at her funeral! 💖 🐦‍⬛ x

I hope you will all indulge me here, I grew watching Catherine O’Hara on Second City and SCTV.

This is one of my favourite sketches with Catherine. Eugene is there too. It really saddens me that the top three people in this video, (if you click you will see what I mean), John Candy, Joe Flaherty, and Catherine, are now, no longer with us.

Comedy gold!

Americano75 · 31/01/2026 09:19

They didn't know what Moira's accent would be until she opened her mouth. What a wonderful woman.

Sign! slap the fucking! slap contract!

Katemax82 · 31/01/2026 09:22

It's a real shame. She was great in beetlejuice and home alone (my favourite childhood films)

Oh what a truly lovely humbling answer. ❤️

@Sisublondie that's gorgeous what she said there... Smile The role she wants to be remembered most for is being a mother to her children. 😘

I have never ever seen Schitts Creek, and have just found it on Netflix. I have watched 3 episodes so far, and I am hooked. It's really good. 😆 The episodes are around 20-22 minutes long each, so a nice easy, enjoyable watch. Loving it so far. Thank you to everyone who has mentioned this. I have heard of it/knew about it, but it never featured on my radar for some reason.

LOVING Moira. 😆😍

FrothyCothy · 31/01/2026 11:34

I’d love to be watching Schitt’s Creek for the first time ever, you’re in for a treat

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 31/01/2026 12:08

Thanks @FrothyCothy I'm on episode 5 now. I only started watching it this morning. 😆

I can't seem to switch it off! 😬

It gets better and better, right to the end. It's rare a series does that.

I've been rewatching it the last few weeks - one a night - every moment is a joy.

ViolaChomp · 31/01/2026 12:31

This has hit me hard, loved her in Home Alone best and for all the love and support she gave Macaulay Culkin.. such sad news. Xx

So sad. Have just finished watching SC for the first time funnily enough as only recently came across it. She was brilliant as Moira Rose and I spent most of the first season not realising she was the mum from Home Alone until it suddenly clicked! We love the home alone movies in this house too and religiously watch each year. She will be missed.

I have watched SC without realising she was the mum in Home Alone too.

So sad. She was quite young.

Me too! The only show to make you laugh and cry in abundance!

She really did make Moira Rose - I could not imagine another casting.

Such a wonderful woman.

Coffeeishot · 31/01/2026 12:46

Sc is such a joy of a programme, we watched it on more4 or maybe E4, i might see if it is still on there and rewatch it.

I’m so envious that you are seeing it from the start. It got me through lockdown and I will be forever grateful to Catherine and the rest of the cast. An absolute gem of TV.

Coffeeishot · 31/01/2026 12:58

It seems it was a lockdown discovery for a few of us, Dd still lived at home but was furloughed, it gave us something to watched and part of a "routine" for the long days at home.

hby9628 · 31/01/2026 13:50

Watching schitts creek for the second time is better than the first. There’s so many layers to it. I’m on my 3rd run of it.

spiderlight · 31/01/2026 15:23

We watched SC in lockdown and almost immediately restarted it with teen DS, who absolutely loved it. It's such a comforting show, somehow. You never know quite what Moira is going to say next but every line is pure art. The wigs, the clothes, the delivery - just genius.

I've watched it countless times and still notice stuff!

Hope1970 · 31/01/2026 16:27

Oh my goodness. Sooo sad. I started watching Schitts Creek last September and felt I was late to the party...my sister couldn't believe I hadn't seen it.. Moira was just the funniest character...
