Am not usually one to post these kinds of threads but this is so sad. I've loved her since childhood and am currently in the middle of a Schitt's Creek binge to take my mind off the usual winter bugs. She was such a fantastic actress and so, so funny.

Moira Rose. The greatest comedy character ever.

We are lucky she created such a legacy.
I am so sad to read this.

I also love "Best in Show." RIP Cookie Fleck. Gone too soon.

This was a great film.

Kevin’s mum in Home alone, Mrs.McCallister.

Of all the things she has done, that's the role.

Home Alone is one of those rare films that will be shown over and over again, so she (and her Kevin!! reaction) will be known for as long as films are watched.

She was going to play me in the inevitable biopic of my life!!! This cannot be true 😭😭

BlueEyedBogWitch · 30/01/2026 19:12

Gutted.

She turned in one of the best comedy performances of all time as Moira Rose.

I’m genuinely sad.

But how fantastic that, in her sixties, she had such a triumphant, career-defining roll. What an actress.

Will be watching SC for the third time in her honour.

SC was one of those shows where you genuinely wanted them to be real people. Moira especially. And yes thats cos the writing was brilliant but also because the way she portrayed her.

Edited

I felt like I’d lost friends when I finished binging all the seasons the first time. I’ve watched them another 4 times since and think I’m gonna have to watch them again now.
My 18 year old DS is equally gutted that ‘Kevin’s mum” has died.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 30/01/2026 19:39

Awwww, that's sad. She's older than I thought, (I thought she was about 63,) but not old enough to die. 😢

Loved her in Home Alone, and Beetlejuice. And she did lots of voices for animated films too.

R.I.P.

Jitterybugs2 · 30/01/2026 19:40

That’s sad to hear. I love Schitt’s Creek. I wasn’t sure when I started it but stuck with it. By the end of episode 2 I was hooked. I thought Catherine’s performance as Moira Rose was fabulous and just when you thought she couldn’t be any funnier she did week by week.

I’ve watched it all twice and was just thinking the other day I must give it another go.

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 30/01/2026 19:40

I’m genuinely surprised by how upset I am! RIP. 🙁

Idleplum · 30/01/2026 19:41

Gone far too soon. She was such a gift to the world. One of the rare occasions I feel genuinely sad that a public figure has died, but she and her characters have been a part of every stage of my life.

Stumbleine · 30/01/2026 19:42

I re-watched Schitt's Creek again recently (a real comfort watch) except couldn't bring myself to watch the last episode as it makes me cry so much. No chance now

I assume you must be the only person on the planet who hasn't seen Home Alone.

What sad news, she was such a great actress.

TwentyFourHoursToTulsa · 30/01/2026 19:43

Our 21 year old just rang us about it. Schitt's Creek was a major part of lockdown for us, and we have also watched the whole series again since then.

InNewYorkNoShoes · 30/01/2026 19:43

I absolutely adore her. I honestly feel sad

Yes this. How can anyone not know who she is?!

How rude and disrepectful saying 'WHO?!' on a sad thread about a major celebrity dying. Shame on you @Netcurtainnelly Hmm

.

spiderlight · 30/01/2026 19:46

I'm genuinely so, so sad to hear this. She was iconic in Schitt's Creek. Incredibly talented.

Oh there's always fucking one.

Wasn’t on the Bingo Card- currently watching Schitts Creek. Very sad but very grateful for the all the performances!

Passingthrough123 · 30/01/2026 19:54

I can't quite believe it. I loved her in Beetlejuice and adored her in Schitt's Creek – the fact there will never be a reunion or film of SC is so upsetting.

CurtsyFriends · 30/01/2026 19:55

She was amazing in SC…. Her phrases and eccentricity made the show. When I watched the first episode I wasn’t sure if I could cope with her character but I soon changed my mind.

Bebe…..

TickyTacky · 30/01/2026 19:56

So very sad, much too young.
