And not mummy anymore 😔
Didn’t think it would happen this young (7)
Want to be mummy a bit longer!

What age was your child when you started being called mum and how did it happen?

By the time he was 3, my DS had gone from calling me mummy, mummybuffly, mum and m.... He's grown up now and has called me by my name since he was really young, I've always been fine with that. My DD is profoundly disabled and I call myself mummy to her 😊

Growlybear83 · 13/01/2026 13:07

My daughter started calling me Mutha when she was about 10, after she discovered the Bacons in Viz 😆. I hope I don’t look like Mutha Bacon

Danikm151 · 13/01/2026 13:07

My 5 year old has been saying mom sometimes… then goes oh I mean mommy.

Is it wrong to say I don’t like mum as much and can she keep saying mummy

It's a bit silly, yes. DS started calling me by my first name as a toddler -- he was fascinated that I had an actual name DH and my friends called me by!

OneMintWasp · 13/01/2026 13:10

My daughter called me mum age 8 for about 6 months then went back to mummy but now always mum outside of our home / just us. If she is in a mood with me its mum too. She is 11 so almost always in a mood with me!!

Echobelly · 13/01/2026 13:11

Mine started at about 6 - I loved it!

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 13/01/2026 13:11

My son stopped at about 5.

My parents were still calling each other 'Mummy' and 'Daddy' up until my fathers death. They said they'd just got in the habit when we were little and never stopped. It was quite sweet.

My grandparents did too. It’s lovely.

blankcanvas3 · 13/01/2026 13:11

My 3.5 year old calls me mother 😂 I die every time. I think she might hate me. My 17 year old calls me mummy if he wants something. Ma most of the time though, occasionally bro or fam if he’s feeling brave. 1 year old calls me mama still, I’ll be upset when she stops as she’s my last.

StephensLass1977 · 13/01/2026 13:12

I'm in his phone as "mother" but my son (mid 20s) likes to call me by really formal or smart names such as "Arthur" or "Bartholomew". Started as a joke when he was at uni, and happily just carried on.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 13/01/2026 12:47

We are mother and father now, or 'bruh'. I think they have reverted to mother and father because they didn't want to go to mum and dad, but it sounds more jokey than mummy and daddy.

They are teens though.

Youngest calls us mama/mummy and daddy, he's 8. Or bruh. 🙄

Us too 🤣

Foucaultspenguin · 13/01/2026 13:12

One of my DC is twenty and still calls me Mummy (tongue in cheek). We are at the stage that I don't mind what they call me as long as they call me.

Yes completely wrong. Let her grow up.

hypnovic · 13/01/2026 13:13

Wait til its "marjay" "oi ere are ma" "mumdem" or "broski"

Mummy will come back mid teen when things are wanted !!

mummabubs · 13/01/2026 13:14

Honestly my son has been calling me "mum" since he was about 4, and his sister then copied him growing up so she's only ever called me mum! My SiL was really shocked when he called me mum infront of her a few years ago and said I must be devastated... Personally it really doesn't bother me! The fact that when he's upset the person he looks for to comfort him is me is all I need to feel reassured in how he sees me.

Alternativelyviewed · 13/01/2026 13:15

My 18 year old calls me mummy ,younger wont here of it. I've had mate.and bro...stammed it out

ResusciAnnie · 13/01/2026 13:15

Ah that’s a sad day!

My sons are 10 & 8 and still call me mama or mummy exclusively.

My daughter is 3 and it’s 50/50 mum and mummy/mama.

My husband hates being dad not daddy so she does it more already 😂 lord help us.

SusiQ18472638 · 13/01/2026 13:15

My tween and teen were both still calling me mummy until not that long ago and I was the one that said to them maybe it needs to be Mum now! My youngest still calls me mummy out of habit, from my oldest I get a variety of names including Mum and Mother!

Firsttimemom3 · 13/01/2026 13:15

Mine still calls me mummy, 21 and 18 ! Love it

bingobanjo · 13/01/2026 13:16

She was mum when I was little, silly nickname used by me and friends all through my teens.

I started calling her mummy in my 30s, life having changed, feeling more sensitive to the horrors of the world… it’s oddly comforting. So maybe you’ll get it back one day!

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 13:16

Oh I know the feeling. I loved being called mummy. At least you’re still mum. By teens I got relegated to ‘bruh’ 😂

CocoPops39616 · 13/01/2026 13:17

Mine call me Mummy at home and mum outside/school :)

PistachioTiramisu · 13/01/2026 13:17

I never called my mother anything but Mummy, except 'M' sometimes. We both hated 'Mum'. If I referred to her in conversation, I would always say 'my mother' and still do, even though she is long gone! Whatever she was called, I still miss her terribly!

ZenNudist · 13/01/2026 13:17

Could be worse, could be Unc'.

Lisavanderpumpsdog · 13/01/2026 13:18

3 and I was not happy.

I blame Bluey.
