Made the lasagna without the lasagna

Brainfogtothemax · 05/01/2026 13:26

What to do?

Just prepped for dinner, did all the mince with tomatoes, onion etc and made the cheese sauce, boiled some potatoes and went to get the lasagna sheets and don’t have any.
Not feeling 100% so cba going to the shops, how can I make it into a proper meal? I have some pasta I could use instead, but what about the potatoes? Save them for tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

🤦‍♀️baked beans are not vegetables. They are pulses.

Vegetables are defined as the edible parts of plants. So pulses are vegetables. Is definitely call peas a vegetable, so quite content that beans are too 😊

Peas, beans, chickpeas, lentils etc are legumes and are all vegetables as they're part of a plant. But they're also classified as a type of protein - very useful if you're a vegetarian or vegan so that you eat enough protein.
Someone said all vegetables are carbs. Many veg has hardly any carbs eg leafy greens such as spinach, kale, broccoli, cabbage, cucumber, peppers, green beans.

clickyteeclick · 08/01/2026 03:05

Just when I thought the world was becoming even more depressing day by day this thread has reminded me that there is still light and laughter to be found 👏😂
The beans comment has made my day…. I think we all know the poster was referring to your standard veg ie, broccoli, cabbage etc. You say potato I say potatoe, you say baked bean I say legume 😂
Anyway for next time the boiled potato’s that were too cooked to be sliced were CRYING OUT to be roasted with some garlic and rosemary 🇮🇹

Those are still classified as carbs. All food is either protein, carb or fat. All vegetables and fruits are carbs.

TheSmallAssassin · 08/01/2026 08:26

Most foods are a combination of protein, fats and carbs, @Italianasoitis. I wouldn't call kale, which has about 10g of carbs per 100g, half of which are fibre, a "carb".

As @ErinBell01 says, beans are a good source of protein, so I definitely wouldn't reduce those to "just a carb" either, not sure how that would be helpful for anybody.

Hoolahoophop · 08/01/2026 09:49

OP you inspired me, I'm having fish fingers, potato waffles and (the kids will have beans) cauliflower and broccoli cheese for dinner tonight. No buttery boiled potato's available in my house at the moment, but we always have fish fingers, waffles and beans in.

beautifuldaytosavelives · 08/01/2026 13:43

This is the funniest thread I've ever seen. I think it's weird to have chips with lasagne but I've never in my life heard of potatoes with it. In fact, I'm astounded that anyone voluntary eats boiled potatoes, but that could be me. And the outrage at eating greens outside summer!!! Live a little OP. I very often have a full on salad alongside my lasagne in all seasons.

HoorayHattie · 08/01/2026 17:14

@Brainfogtothemax ~ just wondering what's on the menu this evening at Brain Fog Towers?

Yep, peas, beans, pulses, legumes, inbetweenies beanies, lentils, mentals, all classed as carbs

They contain some protein. They are not protein rich but do serve as a source of protein. More than your average carrot for example.

LouiseK93 · 08/01/2026 20:31

AquaForce · 08/01/2026 21:18

I really wish we still had a laughing emoji 😂

You’re not wrong though.

Perhaps Meloni will declare war?

Oh, there's a melon now. I'd nail the entrée before tackling dessert 😂

I’ve absolutely loved this thread @Brainfogtothemax, I think your replies have been brilliant (am also a secret fan of double and even treble carbs!) I have rarely seen an OP 70 posts in maintaining their level of humour and delicious naiveness, I salute you and your boiled potatoes.

Pupperino · 10/01/2026 18:02

The first thing I'd do is learn to spell lasagne.

Brainfogtothemax · 10/01/2026 18:11

Chicken curry tonight..!

Meanwhile, in gaza

They’re really soft, they’ll crumble, they’ve been boiled

So mash them and freeze them for another day.

Make pasta bake and top with the sauce and some extra cheese.

You seem to be making this much more complicated than it needs to be. Are you ok?

dancingthroughthelightningstrike · 10/01/2026 18:34

OMG, this thread! 😄

It is quite a sad and bland sounding lasagne.
And leafy greens to me is cabbage, spinach etc. Am I wrong?

ErinBell01 · 10/01/2026 18:43

You're right! I made my DH sit through it and although initially reluctant he fully engaged with it and even asked me the next day for updates!

Rob343 · 10/01/2026 18:48

Just mash the potatoes put them on top with some grated cheese, pop it in oven and its a cottage pie.

ErinBell01 · 10/01/2026 18:53

They're technically vegetables because they're parts of plants.
