I can't serve you, actually I will

I don't know if my mum rage is out of control but I went to Asda pizza counter and they were closing so I was told as soon as I joined the queue of 2 people that they were shut. They don't display time and the lights were on, so I was a bit annoyed.

I went to look at the premade pizzas, very annoyed but I didn't say anything to the lady. She then asked how many pizzas I wanted, I reminded her she was shut so why does it matter.

Aibu - either shut and be shut, or serve people?

Because every single other person on this thread knows that she was asking so she could make your pizza. You seem to be the only person who doesn't have the slightest clue why she asked and for some reason has decided that she was being nosy and rude.

My sympathies OP, it can be annoying. I was once waiting in Pizza Hut and the lady said, "How many pizzas do you want? 'Cos we're shutting soon."

I replied, "Well I only wanted one, but since you're shutting soon, PLEASE DON'T BOTHER!"

She said, "Oh we're happy to make you one pizza, I only asked because -"

I replied, "NO! You're shutting soon so go ahead, shut, shut, SHUT!"

She continued trying to serve me, saying, "We can do you a pizza, there's no need to -"

I screamed, "NO, SHUT, GO AHEAD, SHUT, SHUT, SHUT, SHUT!!"

But there's no reasoning with those people.

Oh Bean Quisine

This has well and truly done me in

The absurdity of the whole thread whilst OP sits in the corner shouting WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M WRONG JUST BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE IN ALL THE ASDAS IN ALL THE LAND KNEW WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND I DIDN'T

And then your absolute poetry

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:18

No
She already said she was shut. So why then ask how many pizzas I wanted?

OP, everyone is trying to explain to you that even though she told you they are shut, she might have seen your disappointment and decided to accommodate you. Just because she didn’t ask question exactly the way you wanted (I can squeeze you in if you only want one) doesn’t mean she didn’t thunk that. People think and talk differently - everyone on this thread except you understood her question in a way that she had second thoughts and wanted to help you provided you don’t expect 5-10 pizzas. Instead of arguing with everyone on this thread why don’t you actually consider for a second that maybe she did think that and then you were rude in your reply,

Kitterkitkat · 04/01/2026 02:07

Just let it go. It's not worth getting wound up about.

I've got some bad news on the context front considering this happened at the pizza counter moments after you were informed they were closing and considering the pizza lady was asking about pizza..

It was a good couple of minutes after she told me.... She's either shutting or not.

I think you need a few deep breaths

purplecorkheart · 04/01/2026 02:44

You were vile.Maybe the two people in front of you orders took less time than she expected. Maybe she j
had been worried that there would not be enough toppings left after their orders but it turned out there was so she asked you about your order. Sadly you have spoiled things for other people. I bet next time she will shut on her end time because if how vile you were.

Vile? Oh come on, grumpy, but if think that’s vile, you’ve never worked in retail 😂

There is literally nothing rude at all about what she said.
Nothing at all.

Wallawallakoala · 04/01/2026 03:31

What strange rage bait

Wallawallakoala · 04/01/2026 03:32

Pointless thread because why ask if you clearly don’t want to hear opinions?

Yes please, if you're offering!

WaltzingWaters · 04/01/2026 03:55

Gosh you were a total arsehole. Yes, she was shutting (not her who makes the opening times or her decision to not have the times displayed), but thought she’d try and help you out by squeezing you in anyway. You were a bitch. Not mum rage - just a bitch.

I'd have given you a pizza my mind if I was her.

She had second thoughts and decided to do something kind to help you. And you were rude. And you’re still being rude on this thread.

OP actually knows what she meant. The title of the thread tells us that. Not sure why she's suddenly pretending she didn't know.

I strongly suspect the op is bored and arguing for the sake of it.

Exactly, I don’t know why the OP is suddenly pretending she didn’t know the woman had changed her mind and was going to serve her when it’s clear from the OP that she did.

She was an arse by telling me straight away she was shut. And then rudely ask "how many pizzas do you want" without putting any context in it

It's not "being as arse" to tell a customer a counter is closed. Do you think the same when a checkout puts its closed sign out just as you get there? It's a but frustrating but it's not personal, it's just store operations. I think what happened is after she'd told customers the counter was closed she saw you looking at the pre-made and thought she'd do something nice like ask "how many do you need". Why has her asking in that way particularly made you so annoyed? Seems perfectly reasonable to ask that. If you answered "I need a dozen" then she'd answer "ah, nevermind then, if it was 1 or 2 I'd have done them quick for you". And if you'd answered "I need 2", no doubt she'd have said "I'll do them for you, just don't tell everyone wink wink". She was doing her job, closing the counter at the time she is told to, but tried to do something nice after seeing you at the pre-made pizzas. I really can't understand why this bothered you so much.

MusicCuresAll · 04/01/2026 09:30

MissDoubleU · 03/01/2026 23:22

Exactly.

Imagine going into the hairdresser 5 minutes before they close and say you want a service. She says “no I’m sorry, I’m about to close.” But before you walk out the door she shouts: “well what is it you’re actually after?”
Lets examine some possible answers
A ) I just want my fringe trimmed (a 5 minute job)
B) I want a cut and blow dry (a 40 minute job)
C) I want a new client style consultation (a 10-30 minute job she won’t want to rush)

The question is valid because if it is scenario A then quickly trimming your fringe and sending you off won’t have her close too much later than normal and she can still get home in time to make her kids tea.
If, however, you were thinking of scenario B or C then this would not be feasible.

You reply: “Well you said you were closed!” And slam the door, having to deal with your Claudia Winkleman fringe blinding you for another day.

Realistically your pizza girl was done and should have been packing up and cleaning and shutting things down. Not making fresh pizza. She it of kindness had a second thought that she would squeeze you in anyway, provided it’s a reasonable request that she can finish in time.

If you can’t see you’ve been rude and snappy now there’s really no helping you.

Edited

Claudia Winkleman fringe lol!

YABU

What's 'mum rage'. Just sounds like rage.

Calm down a bit, it makes life nicer for everyone.

This is clearly a wind up.
Don’t feed the hairy handed one Asda pizza
