To think that Kier Starmer shouldn't be welcoming extremists into Britain?

Twiglets1 · 27/12/2025 20:14

Reported in The Telegraph today that Sir Keir Starmer has welcomed an alleged Islamist extremist, who labelled British people “dogs and monkeys” and called for Zionists to be killed, into the UK.

The Prime Minister said he was “delighted” that Alaa Abd el-Fattah had arrived from Egypt on Friday evening after a travel ban imposed by Cairo was lifted following lobbying by ministers.

Mr Abd el-Fattah, an activist with dual British-Egyptian citizenship, previously said that it was heroic to kill Zionists “including civilians”. He urged Londoners to burn Downing Street, told his supporters to kill police and said he hated white people.

Ministers are facing calls to revoke his British citizenship, which he was granted in 2021 while imprisoned in Egypt, where campaigners described him as a “prisoner of conscience”.

Sir Keir’s tweet yesterday said how “delighted” he was that Alaa Abd El-Fattah is back in this country. Does that seem a reasonable stance to take for someone who has claimed at the same time to be committed to "eradicating antisemitism in the UK"?

I thought MN was some place for women to get some help with some kind of creepy men in their lifel

Trump and Farage seem to have taken it over,

The weirdest thing is that I find myself agreeing with Farage (& I don't support Reform!) saying, “Tory and Labour both open our doors to the wrong people. They are as bad as each other.”

Jeez, this thread. No wonder we end up with Islamist extremists, when a thread about one being granted citizen is taken over with comments from people avoiding condemning this as they are so desperate not to appear racist. It’s exactly that mentality that has led to us having such extremists in our country. You are not good people if you don’t condemn this man getting citizenship, you are just foolish.

One of the most ridiculous posts which says everything. Let's just concentrate on the white mysogonists. No wonder why extremists find it easy to strike when they get protection by destraction.

Some people on this thread may actually agree with the comments made by Alaa Abd El-Fattah, who knows?

Would explain the desire to change the subject.

I have read the article now. Those tweets are absolutely disgusting. I find it hard to believe Starmer was aware of them when he made his own tweet this morning.

Yes, they're truly awful. It's incredibly concerning if the UK government weren't aware, its not like they're hard to find. A quick search on X would bring most of them up or googling his name would have revealed the European Parliament rescinded his nomination for a human rights award because of his violent comments.

Some people will contort themselves in circles and distort reality, rather than admit that Islamic extremists are a danger to British society. It doesn't suit their narrative to acknowledge the reality.

You're welcome to start your own thread Missy if you wish to create an AIBU on the Israeli president, this one is about Alaa Abd el-Fattah.

Exactly this. Bore off @MissyB1🥱

No ... also about 13% so far think IABU in suggesting it's not a reasonable stance for KS to take, considering he is also supposedly committed to "eradicating antisemitism in the UK".

😥😡

I was clearly pointing out that we all no doubt think that does bizarre and highly questionable things at times. You aren’t happy at his position on this particular guy, I was fucking horrified at him welcoming the Israeli president - part of an extremist regime. Guess it depends on our individual definitions of “extremist” doesn’t it?

When was this? As far as I can tell Netanyahu's last state visit was in 2023, before the current war in Gaza and before Starmer was PM. And there have been plenty of worlds leaders welfomed to the UK who have precided over awful things. The leader of Qatar got a state visit just a year ago. That's the nature of diplomatic relations. There's a debate to be had about it but it has nothing to do with welcoming some regular old antisemitic extremist into the country. No matter how much you want to turn this into yet another thread about how awful Israel is and not the actual topic.

Keir is an utter boob. Of course he didn’t bother to check. Then again, would that have made much difference to him?

Terrifyingly, there is likely to be truth in this.

What are you on about? He’s a pro democracy activist who was imprisoned for exposing torture of political prisoners in Egypt. He has dual British/ Egyptian nationality so every right to be here.

I just googled and you're right. There are articles from 2015 about his tweets and an award nomination being rescinded.

That's all you're worried about?

That's what @Alltheunreadbooks took from that post. Interesting. It's not a word many people associate with Arabs. Jews, OTOH, have been called 'dirty' for generations 😡

This is the oddest story.

Okams razor would suggest incompetence most likely reason for him being admitted.

it’s a PR nightmare. And an actual nightmare thinking about it. If you are a woman, gay, white or Jewish.

Actually, there has been a concerted campaign to release him for ages

Many MPs wrote to the foreign secretary, are they all signed a letter, about his release, that they wanted him to be released.

this includes Tory MPs, which has confused the heck out of me. I just thought it was the usual Labour problem going on but it looks like there might be even more to it.

It's getting more and more sinister out there.

(BTW I cannot believe that somebody decided to strawman this immediately - literally the first reply - FFS)

oh well, I suppose at least Starmer tweet might make a few more people see the seriousness of what's going on.

I suggest you read the shared Trlegraph article that sets out the rest of this man's "activism".
His tweets are horrifying, at a level that have seen people jailed in the UK.

If only that's all he was but he's also a racist who hates white people and Americans and police and Jews ... quite a list really.

But now he's here he could definitely be arrested for some of those tweets. They are active calls for violence.

You can just go and have a look but he has been busy deleting them. Luckily, there are plenty of screenshots. What remainsis pretty grim to be honest. I reckon he'll delete the whole account before the end of the day.

He’s a vile antisemite, homophobic, racist, who has posted extensively about his hatred of a whole range of people Jews, whites, “british dogs and monkeys”, homosexuals, his hatred of the UK and various people who he hopes will die.

is that really the type of person we want our prime minister to be delighted about?

Did I see something about threatening to burn down Downing Street? Then the current incumbent makes a welcoming post from Downing Street. You couldn't make it up! No wondered we are a laughing stock.
